Investigation into death of child, Update

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public regarding an ongoing investigation into the death of a child.

On Monday, February 3, 2014, at approximately 4 p.m., police were called to attend an address in Scarborough. As a result of the ensuing investigation, police attended the Howard Johnson Toronto East at 22 Metropolitan Road, where they found a child in obvious distress. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police can now release the following:

- the deceased is a young girl
- a man and boy were also taken to hospital last night
- a post-mortem examination has been scheduled for later today

Sexual Assault Alert, Islington Avenue and Summitcrest Drive

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to a sexual assault.

It has been reported that:

- on Sunday, February, 2, 2013, at approximately 2:15 a.m., a 24-year- old woman got off a TTC bus in the Islington Avenue and Summitcrest Drive area, when a man approached her

- he forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her

- the woman was able to fight him off and he fled east through a parking lot towards Islington Avenue

The man is described as white, 5'6"-5'7", with a stocky build.He was wearing a black T-shirt and no coat.

Missing man, John Peter Lioudakis, 40, Renewed appeal for information

The Toronto Police Service is continuing to request the public's assistance locating a missing man.

See previous release.

John Peter Lioudakis, 40, was last seen on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 6:30 a.m., at Toronto Pearson International Airport as he boarded a flight to Mexico.

He is described as being of Greek descent, with an olive complexion, 6'3", 220 lbs., brown eyes with a muscular build. He has a small tattoo of an iguana on his lower-left calf and a piercing on his chin. He also has a vertical scar on his right forearm and occasionally wears a goatee. He was last seen wearing a grey "Jack Jones" T-shirt with white runners and blue jeans.

Through investigation, it was revealed that John Lioudakis checked in to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Mazatlán, Mexico, on Friday, May 24, 2013, and then checked out approximately one week later. It remains unknown where he went from there, as there are no records of him returning to Canada.

Police are concerned for his safety as he was not scheduled to remain in Mexico for a extended period of time and has not made any contact with his family or friends since shortly after his departure to Mexico.

At this time, foul play cannot be ruled out.

Man faces seven charges in historical sexual assault investigation, Guy Babineau, 69, Photograph released, Police believe there may be other victims

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to an arrest in a historical sexual assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- between 1990 and 1993, the accused sexually assaulted a young boy

- the accused is known to have had connections with organizations mentoring youths in the Greater Toronto Area

On Friday, January 31, 2014, Guy Babineau, 69, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. three counts of Sexual Assault
2. three counts of Sexual Interference
3. Invitation to Sexual Touching

He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 9 a.m., room 101.

Police believe there may be other victims.

The post-mortem examination was completed this afternoon. The result was inconclusive, pending further tests.

Police investigate shooting in Yonge Street/Deloraine Avenue area

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance with a shooting investigation.

It was reported that:

- on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, police were called to the area of Yonge Street and Deloraine Avenue at approximately 9:20 p.m., for a report of the sound of gun shots
- officers arriving on scene found a man in his 20s suffering from obvious injuries
- the man was taken to a hospital via emergency run
- the man was pronounced dead at the hospital

The man has been identified as Peter Nguyen, 26, of Toronto. A post-mortem examination is yet to be scheduled.

The police are looking for two suspects, both described as men dressed in dark clothing. They were last seen leaving the area on foot, traveling westbound on Melrose Avenue from Yonge Street.

Jose Oliveira, 47, was last seen on Friday, February 1, 2014, in the Peter Street and King Street West area.

He is described as white, 6', 176 lbs., with a medium build, brown eyes, long, curly, sandy-brown hair and a thick, brown beard. He was last seen wearing a thigh-length olive-coloured winter coat, blue trousers and a baseball cap.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Sexual Assault Alert, Queen Street East and Church Street

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to a sexual assault.

On Thursday, January 30, 2014, at approximately 4:45 p.m., it is reported that:

- a 24-year-old woman was walking westbound on Queen Street East, west of Church Street

- a man approached her from behind and sexually assaulted her

- the woman confronted the man, who then ran westbound on Queen Street East

The man is described as having a dark-black complexion, mid 20s, 180 lbs., 5'11", high cheekbones and big eyes.

Media advisory, Monday, February 10, 2014, 10 a.m., Headquarters, 40 College Street, TPS partners with OneMatch in lifesaving swab event, Chief Blair will demonstrate how easy it is to be swabbed

The Toronto Police Service is partnering, once again, with OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network to raise awareness of the importance of being a donor and is hosting a swab clinic on Monday, February 10, 2014, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at TPS headquarters, 40 College Street, where Chief William Blair will demonstrate how easy it is to be swabbed.

This swab clinic was originally organized for Samantha Sirbos, a young girl, who turned seven on January 8, and who is fighting for her life. She needs a bone marrow transplant to save her life.

We are pleased to announce that, during the planning for this OneMatch swab event, Samantha found her match. In Samantha's honour, the swab event will continue to be held to build the OneMatch registry for other potential candidates.

Diagnosed with leukemia at age three, and a cancer survivor two years later, Samantha relapsed last September, when the leukemia returned.

She has been undergoing rigorous chemotherapy treatments over the last four months.

Homicide #5/2014, Evangeline Adotey, six, Man charged with First-Degree Murder and attempted murder

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public on the ongoing investigation into homicide #5/2014.

On Monday, February 3, 2014, at approximately 4 p.m., police were called to an address in Scarborough. As a result of the ensuing investigation, police attended the Howard Johnson Toronto East at 22 Metropolitan Road, where they found a child in obvious distress. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A boy was also found in medical distress. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

On Thursday, February 6, 2014, Jason Adotey, 35, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. First-Degree Murder
2. attempted murder

His next court appearance is at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 9 a.m., room 408 .

Missing woman, Jennifer Charlebois, 37

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing woman.

Jennifer Charlebois, 37, was last seen in the area of Yonge Street and Isabella Street on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at 10:30 a.m.

Police are concerned for her safety.

She is described as white, 5'7", 160-190 lbs., with shaved dark-brown hair. She is freckled and may have a bruised left eye. She was last seen wearing grey sweatpants, black boots and a cream shirt with a blue collar. She was also wearing a green cardigan under a winter coat with a fur collar and was carrying a black guitar case and several shopping bags.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a sexual assault investigation:

It is alleged that:

- between Wednesday, January 1, 2014, and Sunday, February 2, 2014, a 14-year-old girl was lured over the internet by a 41-year-old man

- the man subsequently extorted the girl into meeting him in person

- on Saturday, February 1, 2014 and Sunday, February 2, 2014, the man sexually assaulted the girl at a hotel in the The Queensway and Royal York Road area

On Tuesday, February 4, 2014, Hassan Steven Jarrar, 41, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. Sexual Assault
2. Sexual Interference
3. Extortion
4. Access Child Pornography
5. Possess Child Pornography
6. Make Child Pornography
7. Luring a Child
8. three counts of Fail to Comply 810.2 Recognizance

He was scheduled to appear in court at College Park on Friday, February 7, 2014.

Police believe there may be other victims.

Public Safety Alert, Break-and-enters into homes during funerals

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a number of residential break-and-enters that have occurred during daytime hours.

The entries have occurred over the past few weeks in various neighbourhoods in the city, including three entries in 33 Division over the past seven days.

All of the occupants of these homes had been attending the funeral of a close family member at the time of the break-and-enter and a funeral notification had been published in a newspaper or online.

Members of the public are advised to ensure that they lock their doors and windows when leaving their homes. Additionally, members of the public are encouraged to have a family member, friend or neighbor watch their homes when attending funeral services.
