Missing man, Illya Tinker, 25

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing man.

Illya Tinker, 25, was last seen on Saturday, February 8, 2014, in the Lansdowne Avenue and Davenport Road area.

He is described as black, 6'2", medium build, black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white/grey winter hat with ear-flaps, a grey wool jacket, and black winter boots.

Police are concerned for his safety.

On Monday, February 10, 2014, outside the Merto Toronto Convention Centre, 255 Front Street West, between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., the Toronto Police Service will launch "That Text or Call Could End It All," safety campaign.

This safety campaign will begin on Monday, February 10, 2014, and conclude on Sunday, February 16, 2014.

This one-week initiative will highlight all dangerous activities associated with drivers who talk, text, type, dial or email using hand-held communication and entertainment devices. This campaign will incorporate the use of a hearse and stealth police vehicles.

All police officers will be paying attention to those drivers who choose to drive while distracted. Distracted driving is any action that a driver engages in that takes their focus away from the safe operation of their vehicle which includes, but is not limited to, the use of hand-held communication and entertainment devices. Distracted drivers are a safety risk to themselves and other road-users. The Toronto Police Service is committed to ensuring the safety of everyone using the roads in and around our city.

The use of hand-held communication and entertainment devices while driving is known to distract drivers from driving safely. Legislation is in place which has created specific offences for this driving behaviour.

Since 2011 the Toronto Police Service has laid over 55,000 charges for offences related to distracted driving.

The Toronto Police Service is partnering, once again, with OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network to raise awareness of the importance of being a donor and is hosting a swab clinic on Monday, February 10, 2014, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at TPS headquarters, 40 College Street, where Chief William Blair will demonstrate how easy it is to be swabbed.

This swab clinic was originally organized for Samantha Sirbos, a young girl, who turned seven on January 8, and who is fighting for her life. She needs a bone marrow transplant to save her life.

We are pleased to announce that, during the planning for this OneMatch swab event, Samantha found her match. In Samantha's honour, the swab event will continue to be held to build the OneMatch registry for other potential candidates.

Diagnosed with leukemia at age three, and a cancer survivor two years later, Samantha relapsed last September, when the leukemia returned.

She has been undergoing rigorous chemotherapy treatments over the last four months.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing woman.

Aneda Thongrivong, 29, was last heard from on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 8:30 p.m., from the Senlac Road and Finch Avenue West area.

She is described as 5'4", 120 lbs., with long black hair and brown eyes.

She may be driving a silver, four-door, 2012 Nissan Altima, with Ontario licence plate BRMD 031.

Police are concerned for her safety.

On Sunday, February 9, 2014, at 10:32 p.m., police received a call for a shooting on Bisset Avenue.

Police arrived on scene and located a 27-year-old man, seated in a car, suffering from obvious gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Monday, February 10, 2014.

It is believed that a suspect fled the scene in a silver, two-door car.

At this time, it is believed the victim was targeted.

Man and woman face 18 charges in gun/drug investigation, Loaded sawed-off shotgun/handgun/drugs seized

The Toronto Drug Squad executed a search warrant at Passione Restaurant, at 685 Lansdowne Avenue, on Friday, February 7, 2014.

It is alleged that:

- during the execution of the search warrant, a quantity of cocaine, a loaded handgun and air pistol were seized

A second search warrant was executed at an address in Brampton, further to this investigation.

It is alleged that:

- a loaded sawed-off shotgun and a quantity of ammunition were seized

Joseph Vernon, 48, and Julie Vernon, 47, both of Brampton, have each been charged with:

1. Firearm Careless Storage
2. Careless Storage Ammunition
3. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
4. Possession for the Purpose Cocaine
5. Firearm Careless Storage
6. Careless Storage of Ammunition
7. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
8. Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device
9. Possession of Proceeds

They both appeared in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, February 8, 2014.

Sexual Assault Alert, Bayview Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East, Person of Interest to be identified

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Sunday, February, 9, 2014, at approximately 9:40 a.m., a 22-year-old woman was travelling on the subway in the Bayview Avenue/Sheppard Avenue East area

- a man approached and sexually assaulted her

- the man then showed the women a weapon shortly after the assault

He is described as brown, approximately 30, 5'7", with short, black, curly hair, and distinctive discoloration on both hands. He was wearing a black coat and black pants.

Investigators have released security camera images and would like to identify the Person of Interest.

On Thursday, January 23, 2014, the Toronto Police Service began an investigation into allegations of juvenile prostitution in the downtown core.

It is alleged that:

- a 17-year-old girl was procured to become a prostitute in January 2014

- the girl was prostituted in the downtown core

On Thursday, February 6, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., Stefan Jordan, 29, of Montreal, was arrested and charged with:

1. Procuring a Person to Become a Prostitute
2. Exercise Control
3. Living on the Avails of Prostitution (under 18 years)

He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Friday, February 7, 2014, at 10 a.m., room 101.

A warrant for the arrest of Jessica Naoufal, 22, of Montreal, has been issued.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Brampton man faces 16 charges in robbery investigation

Toronto Police Service Hold Up would like to make the public aware of an arrest in eight robberies between January 7, 2014 and Saturday, February 8, 2014.

On Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 3:44 p.m., police responded to a radio call for a bank robbery on Lake Shore Boulevard West.

It is alleged that:

- a man entered the bank, advised he was armed with a gun, and demanded cash from a teller

- the teller complied and the man walked out of the bank

- the man got into a vehicle and drove off, but was stopped by officers in 51 Division hours later and arrested

- he was identified as being responsible for six other robberies in Toronto and one in Durham Region, for a total of eight robberies

Carlos Olivera, 43, of Brampton, is charged with:

1. eight counts of Robbery
2. eight counts of Disguise with Intent

He appeared in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Monday, February 10, 2014.

On Sunday, February 9, 2014, at 10:32 p.m., police received a call for a shooting on Bisset Avenue.

The man has been identified as Hung Pham, 27, of Hamilton.

The post-mortem examination has concluded the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.
