Media Advisory for a News Conference Today Street drug overdoses, Thursday, February 27, 2020, 1:30 p.m., Toronto Police Headquarters, Media Gallery

Today, Thursday, February 27, 2020, Superintendent Steve Watts, Organized Crime Enforcement, will hold a media availability at Toronto Police Headquarters' Media Gallery, after multiple people overdosed last evening on what is suspected to be Fentanyl.

The news conference will begin at 1:30 p.m. during which Superintendent Watts will update the media on the incident and the criminal investigation.

The event will be available on Bell TOC, and live-streamed on Youtube.

Please note that, for the safety of employees and visitors, all persons entering Toronto Police Service headquarters must go through security screening. You are not required to submit to screening. However, if you do not consent to this screening, you will be denied entry. Thank you for your cooperation.

Suspected fentanyl overdoses downtown, Victoria Street and Dundas Street East area, Man arrested for drug offences

The Toronto Police would like to notify the public about suspected fentanyl overdoses in the downtown area.

It is alleged:

- on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, police responded to a medical call in the Victoria Street and Dundas Street East area

- multiple people had fallen ill after taking suspected fentanyl

- divisional officers attended and assisted paramedics

- a total of 12 people were taken to hospital in a variety of conditions

- there are currently no fatalities

Drug Squad officers began an investigation into the source of the drug.

Two hours later, Whanny Mymuller, 38, was arrested by officers.

He was charged with:
1) Two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) Possession of Proceeds of Crime

He will appear at Old City Hall, on Thursday, February 27, 2020, court room 103.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances and a quantity of drugs is being tested. They urge anyone with any information to contact police.

The Toronto Police also wants to remind people that if they are using drugs, and believe they have purchased a substance suspected to be fentanyl, please be extremely cautious.

He is wanted for:

He is described as 6'0", 180 lbs., with short dark hair (possibly in dreadlocks), unshaven, and has brown eyes.

Kwanhu Lee, 30, was last seen on Monday, February 24, 2020, at approximately 11:35 a.m., in the Bellamy Road North and Lawrence Avenue East area.

He is described as 5'8", 150 lbs, thin build, with black hair.

He was last seen wearing a black jacket, grey hooded sweater, and green cargo pants.

Officers are concerned for his safety.

Possess Child Pornography, Gabriel Calderon, 24,

On Wednesday, February 26, 2020, the Toronto Police Service Child Exploitation Section executed a search warrant in the area of The East Mall and Valhalla Road.

It is alleged:

- a man uploaded images of child pornography on social media

- the man was on a social media platform using the name "goodstufftime"

On Wednesday, February 26, 2020, Gabriel Calderon, 24, of Toronto was arrested. He is charged with:

1. two counts of Possess Child Pornography
2. two counts of Access Child Pornography
3. Make child pornography available

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Friday, April 3, 2020, at 10 a.m., in courtroom L.

Sexual Assault Alert, Woman arrested, Tessy Osabuyi, 25

The Toronto Police would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a sexual assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- a man met a woman over social media

- on Friday, February 28, 2020, between the hours of 12 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., the man and the woman met in the Bathurst Street and College Street area

- the woman extorted money and sexually assaulted the man

On Friday, February 28, 2020, Tessy Osabuyi, 25, of Toronto, was arrested. She is charged with:

1. Sexual Assault
2. Extortion
3. Forcible Confinement
4. Assault With A Weapon

She is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Old City Hall.

Police are concerned there may be other victims.

Xiaodi Xu, 68, was last seen on Friday, February 28, 2020, at 4:30 p.m., in the Dixon Road and Kipling Avenue area.

He is described as 5'9", with a medium build and short, dark greying hair. He was wearing eyeglasses, a beige jacket, grey sweatpants, and black running shoes.

Officers are concerned for his safety.

On Monday March 2, 2020, at 11 a.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, Toronto Police Service Financial Crimes will be launching Fraud Prevention Month.

The theme of this launch is “Working together to Combat Fraud”.

Inspector Peter Callaghan, other members of Financial Crimes, and special guests will attend the news conference.

Homicide #13/2020 Woodward Avenue and Uphill Avenue

On Monday, March 2, 2020, at 2:27 a.m., police were on patrol in the Woodward Avenue at Uphill Avenue area.

It is reported:

- officers located a man on a snow bank

- the man was without vital signs, and suffering from what appear to be gunshot wounds

- paramedics arrived and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene

The investigation remains ongoing and officers are urging anyone who was in the area at the time, or has any information, to immediately contact police.

Two men arrested for a Retail Robbery, Albion Road and Martin Grove Road area

The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad would like to make the public aware of two men arrested in relation to a retail robbery that occurred in the Albion Road and Martin Grove Road area.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, March 1, 2020, a retail store robbery was committed in Toronto

- the suspects entered the store while concealing their identities with masks and made demands for cash and tobacco products

- both suspects were armed with handguns

- Police officers arrived on scene and arrested the suspects while they were still inside the store

Divisional officers attended the store and located both suspects who were still inside.

The officers arrested both men and evidence related to the crime was seized during the arrest.

Abdul-Azeez Adekunle, 21, and Devonte Cooper, 20, both of Toronto, have each been charged with:

1. Robbery with a Firearm
2. Disguise with Intent

They appeared in court for a Bail Hearing at Old City Hall on Monday, March 2, 2020, at 10 a.m., room 101.

Man arrested for Retail Robbery, Kingston Road and St. Clair Avenue East area

The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad would like to make the public aware of an arrest in relation to a retail robbery that occurred in the Kingston Road and St. Clair Avenue East area.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, March 1, 2020, a retail store robbery was committed in Toronto

- the suspect entered the store while concealing his identity with a mask and gloves and made a demand for cash

- the suspect was armed with a sword

- the suspect took $70 from the register

- the suspect was then observed fleeing the area on foot

Hold Up Squad investigators determined the identity of a man. He was located and arrested. Evidence believed to be related to the crime was seized during the arrest.

Keith Pelletier, 40, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
2. Disguise with Intent
3. Weapons Dangerous

He appeared in court for a Bail Hearing at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East, on Monday, March 2, 2020, 10 a.m., room 412.

Homicide investigators would like to speak to anyone that Rohan was in contact with over the last few days.

Arrests Made in Fraud Investigation, Na Lin, 46, and Shengyan Liu, 49

On Monday, March 2, 2020, members of the Financial Crimes Unit arrested a woman and a man as part of a Fraud Investigation.

It is alleged that:

- victims from across Canada had been receiving telephone calls from someone pretending to be from the victims’ financial institutions and told them their accounts had been compromised.

- they were then made to believe they would be assisting an undercover RCMP criminal investigation and that money had to be sent to predetermined locations via courier

- victims have lost thousands of dollars because of the calls

- in this particular instance four victims were defrauded a total of $180,000.00


Na Lin, 46, and Shengyan Liu, 49, have each been charged with:

Four counts of Fraud Over $5000

Both are currently in Canada on Visitor Visas and residing in Markham, Ontario.
