Homicide #61/2019, 1750 The Queensway, Antonio Fiorda, 50

On Monday, November 4, 2019, at approximately 12:42 p.m., officers responded to a call for a shooting at 1750 The Queensway.

Officers arrived and located a man, in a parking lot, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

He was transported to hospital by Toronto EMS via an emergency run. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased in hospital.

He has been identified as Antonio Fiorda, 50, of Maple.

Investigators would like to thank those who have already come forward with information.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area, specifically looking to speak with people who heard or saw anything out of the ordinary, in the morning or early afternoon hours of Monday, November 4, 2019.

Fatal Collision #38/2019, Sheppard Avenue East and Abbotsfield Gate, Celeste Jones, 34, Crime Stoppers Video Reenactment

Crime Stoppers Toronto and the Toronto Police Service are making a joint public appeal for information related to a fatal fail to remain collision that took the life of Celeste Jones, 34.

The appeal is part of the awareness and enforcement Safety for Pedestrians Campaign that runs from November 4 - 10, 2019.

"Celeste Jones is the victim of a traffic crime that could have happened to anybody," said Traffic Services Detective Brett Moore. "Not a lot of is known about our suspect driver, but we have plenty of information, because of the help of the Centre for Forensic Sciences, about the suspect vehicle."

Investigators are looking for a 2007 - 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer dark or metallic grey in colour with fog lamps, a loud or modified muffler and sustained damage to the windshield.

Body shop or wrecking yard owners/employees are asked to think back to similar vehicles with front-end damage.

"Celeste was a special gift to us, she was like God's gift to us," said Celeste's father, Clayton Jones. "And so to that driver I say you need to do right, you need to do the proper thing and turn yourself in, come forward, speak to the authorities, let's put closure to this case so we can all feel better about it."

"This incident has impacted many people," Crime Stoppers Toronto Coordinator Detective Dimitrios Tsianos said. "I urge you if you know something about this case or have seen the vehicle involved please call police, or if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers."

Details of the case:

On Friday, August 30, 2019, at approximately 10:23 p.m., police received reports of a collision in the area of Sheppard Avenue East between Abbotsfield Gate and Palmdale Drive.

It is further alleged that:

- the woman was standing in the centre turn lane, crossing Sheppard Avenue East from the south side to the north side, believed to be waiting for a break in westbound traffic

- the suspect vehicle was travelling eastbound on Sheppard Ave East at a high speed in the centre turn lane

- the suspect vehicle struck the woman, continued east on Sheppard Avenue East, and was last seen making a right turn onto southbound Warden Avenue

Investigators have released video footage that they believe shows the suspect vehicle travelling east on Sheppard Avenue East, in the centre turn lane at a high speed, after striking the victim.

Missing woman, River Street and Dundas Street East area, Tawny Culpepper, 35

The Toronto Police Service requests the public's assistance locating a missing woman.

Tawney Culpepper, 35, was last seen in August of 2019, during the day, in the River Street and Dundas Street East area.

She is described as having a slim build, with medium length brown hair. There are no clothing descriptions at this time.

Police are concerned for her safety.

In Sung Lee, 13, and Ah Jung Lee, 15, were last seen on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at 4:15 a.m., in the Nairn Avenue and St. Clair Avenue West area.

Man wanted in Arson investigation, 85 Shuter Street

The Toronto Police Service requests the public's assistance identifying a man wanted in an arson investigation.

On Saturday, November 2, 2019, at approximately 2 a.m., officers responded to a call for a fire at 85 Shuter Street.

It is reported that:

- officers and fire fighters responded to a 3-alarm fire

- a man was observed leaving the townhouse as they arrived

- fire fighters were on the roof trying to control the blaze

- two fire fighters fell from the crumbling roof

The Fire Marshalls Office has investigated and determined the fire was caused by arson.

Investigators are releasing a composite sketch of a man seen leaving the building.

As part of the Safety for Pedestrians Campaign, running from November 4-10, the Toronto Police Service and the City of Toronto are inviting media to learn about Commercial Motor Vehicle and Heavy Truck safety.

The media are invited to speak with members of TPS' Traffic Services, members of the City of Toronto Fleet Safety Unit and other industry partners about road safety.

Media will have the opportunity to ride in and get up close with these operators and the vehicles that they drive daily, to learn about the training, qualifications and responsibilities of operating these specialized vehicles.

Commercial vehicles make up a large part of traffic in Toronto each day and present a traffic safety risk.

In 2019, year to date, eight (15%) of the fatal collisions in Toronto have involved a commercial vehicle and seven of those eight collisions involved a vulnerable road user (90%).

Homicide #63 Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue West Miganeh Idriss, 20,

Detectives are investigating after a fatal shooting.

On Thursday, November 7, 2019, at 1:22 a.m., police responded to a call for a shooting near a bar in the Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue West area.

It is reported that:
- Officers responding discovered several people inside the bar
- A man was found in the vicinity with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene
- A second man was also found and had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where his injuries are described as life-threatening

The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Miganeh Idriss.

A post-mortem examination has not yet taken place.

Homicide are leading on the investigation and are appealing for any information about the incident.

Anyone who was in the area at the time, or has CCTV footage, dash-cam footage or phone footage, is urged to contact police.

Damian Poi, 40, was last seen on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at approximately 4 p.m., in the York Mills Road and Don Mills Road area.

He is described as 5’6”, 190 lbs., brown eyes, short black receding hair, and a beard. He was last seen wearing a white sweater with the Hudson's Bay stripes, a plaid shirt, and boots.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Santa Claus Parade, Road Closures, Sunday, November 17, 2019, at 12:30 p.m.,

The 115th annual Santa Claus Parade will take place on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at 12:30 p.m.

Estimated road closure times for the parade are as follows:

- Bloor Street East, from Parliament Street to Broadview Avenue, at 7 a.m.

- Bloor Street East, from Sherbourne Street to Parliament Street, at 10 a.m.

- Bloor Street West/East, from St George Street to Sherbourne Street, at 10:45 a.m.

- Avenue Road/Queen’s Park, from Davenport Road to College Street, at 10:45 a.m.

- University Avenue, from College Street to Dundas Street, at 11 a.m.

- University Avenue, from Dundas Street to Front Street, at 11:15 a.m.

- Wellington Street, from University Avenue to Jarvis Street, at 11:30 a.m.

- Front Street, from Bay Street to Jarvis Street, at 11:45 a.m.

- Front Street, from Jarvis Street to Sherbourne Street, at 11 a.m.

The towing of vehicles parked along the parade route will commence at 6 a.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2019.

At 11:45 a.m., the "Holly Jolly 5 km Fun Run" will take place on the parade route.

For the safety of runners and parade attendees, spectators are asked to ensure that children and all personal belongings are off the roadway, including bike lanes, by 11:30 a.m.

The parade itself will start at 12:30 p.m., and will proceed along the following route:
Start: Bloor Street East and Parliament Street
WestBound: Bloor Street East
Southbound: Queen’s Park Crescent East
Southbound: University Avenue (northbound lanes)
Eastbound: Wellington Street West
Southbound: Yonge Street
Eastbound: Front Street East
Finish: Front Street East & Jarvis Street

Motorists travelling in the area can expect significant delays and should attempt to avoid the parade route.

Spectators attending the parade are advised to use public transport. Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will be providing full subway and streetcar service. Please refer to the TTC website for information regarding service adjustments for bus routes impacted by the parade.

The duration of the parade is approximately 2.5 hours, and will take place regardless of weather conditions.

2019 East York Civic Centre Remembrance Day Ceremony Monday, November 11, 2019 Road closures

On Monday, November 11, 2019, at 10:40 am, the annual East York Civic Centre Remembrance Day Ceremony will take place.

Road closures will be in place for all or part of the day.

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should consider alternate methods of transportation. The TTC may experience delays. The parade will take place regardless of weather conditions.

Shooting Investigation Arrests, Black Creek Drive/Trethewey Drive, Andre Cunningham, 20, Arrested Update, Malik Mohamed, 21, Arrested

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of another arrest made in a shooting investigation.

On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police were called for a shooting in the Black Creek Drive/Trethewey Drive area.

It is reported that:

- a group of people were gathered in a hallway of a low-rise

On Wednesday, November 6, 2019, the Barrie Police Service arrested a man on an unrelated matter. At the time of his arrest, it is alleged that he was in possession of two loaded semi-automatic handguns. Following his arrest, the warrant for the alleged involvement in this shooting investigation came to light.

On Friday, November 8, 2019, the Toronto Police Service returned the man to Toronto on the strength of the warrant.

Malik Mohamed, 21, of Toronto, is charged with:

1) Five counts of Attempt Murder
2) Discharge Firearm Being Reckless as to the Life or Safety of Another Person
3) Careless Storage of a Firearm
4) Possess Loaded Firearm
5) Two counts of Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm without Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate
6) Carry Concealed Weapon
7) Possess Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace
8) Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm

He was scheduled to appear on Friday, November 8, 2019, at 2201 Finch Avenue West, in courtroom 204, at 10 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.

Arrest in Sexual Assault investigation, Andrew Lee, 42, faces two counts

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a Sexual Assault investigation conducted by Southwest District Criminal Investigations Bureau.

It is alleged that:

- During the period of February 2013 to September 2014, a teacher sexually exploited a then 16-year-old female student at Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School.

On Friday, November 8, 2019, Andrew Lee, 42, of Hamilton, was arrested and charged with:

1) Sexual Assault
2) Sexual Exploitation

He was scheduled to appear in court on Friday, November 8, 2019, at 2201 Finch Avenue West, in courtroom 202.

Andrew Lee has been employed with the Toronto Catholic District School Board as a teacher since 2007.

He worked at St. Basil-the-Great College School from 2007 to 2008, then Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School from 2008 to 2019.

Robbery Investigation, Bloor Street West and Brunswick Avenue, Additional photographs of wanted man attached

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance identifying a man wanted in an on-going robbery investigation.

It is alleged that:

- On Monday, October 14, 2019, at 5:25 p.m., an 87-year-old woman was walking on Brunswick Avenue, south of Bloor Street West.

- a man attacked the woman from behind, throwing her to the ground, then robbing her of her belongings

- he then fled eastbound through an alleyway

The man is described as 6', with a thin build. He was wearing a dark toque, two-toned hooded sweater, dark pants, dark shoes, and carrying a white bag.
