The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of upcoming road closures regarding The Polish Festival.

The Polish Festival will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2019, to Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 11:00 a.m., till 7:00 p.m., on both days.

The following road closures will be in effect:

- Roncesvalles Avenue will be closed from Grafton Avenue to Boustead Avenue from Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 5:00 a.m., until Sunday, September 15, 2019, at 11:59 p.m.

Man charged in Child Sexual Abuse Material Investigation, Sheppard Avenue East and Washburn Way area

On Wednesday, September 11 2019, members of the Toronto Police Service, Sex Crimes - Child Exploitation Section, executed a Criminal Code search warrant in the Sheppard Avenue East and Washburn Way area.

As a result of the evidence gathered by police, Edwin Subia, 32, of Toronto, was arrested.

It is alleged that:

- the accused possessed, accessed and made available child sexual abuse material over the internet.

It is further alleged that:

- he had attempted to destroy evidence during the execution of the search warrant.

He has been charged with:

1) Possession of Child Pornography
2) Access Child Pornography
3) Make available Child Pornography
4) Obstruct peace officer

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Wednesday September 11, 2019, at 2 p.m.

Homicide #45/2019, Fishery Road

On Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at 6:15 p.m., officers responded to a call for a stabbing on Fishery Road.

Officers arrived and located a woman with obvious signs of trauma who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide investigators were called in and have taken over the investigation.

Tharshika Jeganathan, 27, of Toronto, has been identified as the victim.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled for Thursday September 12, 2019.

On Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at approximately 7 p.m., Sasikaran Thanapalasingam, 38, of Toronto, surrendered to police at 42 Division.

He has been charged with:

1) First Degree Murder

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East, on Thursday, September 12, 2019, 2 p.m., room 412.

Investigators wish to speak to anyone who may have knowledge concerning this investigation or previous history concerning the victim and accused.

Mary Kenyon, 54, was last seen on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at approximately 6:45 p.m., in the area of Queen Street West and Ossington Avenue.

She is described as white, 5’10", with short white and grey hair, blue eyes, wearing a dark blue t-shirt and dark pants.

She was last seen wearing a black and blue plaid shirt, grey sweatpants and white running shoes.

City of Toronto hosts Open Streets Toronto, Road Closures

On Sunday, September 15, 2019, the City of Toronto will host Open Streets Toronto.

Bloor Street, between Ossington Avenue and Church Street, and Yonge Street, between Davenport Avenue and Queen Street, will be fully closed to vehicles from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Vehicles will only be able to cross the route at the following designated crossing points:

- Bloor Street West at Christie Street/Grace Street
- Bloor Street West at Bathurst Street
- Bloor Street West at Spadina Avenue
- Bloor Street West at Avenue Road
- Bloor Street West at Bay Street

- Yonge Street at Wellesley Street
- Yonge Street at College Street
- Yonge Street at Gerrard Street
- Yonge Street at Dundas Street
- Yonge Street at Shuter Street

Motorists can expect significant delays in the area and are advised to plan alternative routes where possible. It is strongly recommended that those attending Open Streets Toronto take public transit, walk, bicycle or make other arrangements.

Shooting investigation, Morningside Avenue and Finch Avenue East,

The Toronto Police is seeking the public's assistance with a shooting investigation.


It is reported that:

- On Sunday, September 1, 2019, during the evening hours, a large number of people were in attendance at a festival in the area of Morningside Avenue and Finch Avenue East.

- at 11:51 p.m. police responded to reports of a shooting in the area

- responding officers located a white BMW with several bullet holes, as well as a number of shell casings

- there were no injured parties

Police believe there were a number of witnesses in the area at the time of the shooting. Fatal Collision #38/2019, Sheppard Avenue East and Abbotsfield Gate, Failure to Remain at Scene, New Suspect Vehicle Information

The Toronto Police Traffic Service is seeking the public's assistance with an investigation into a Fatal Traffic collision in which the suspect vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

On Friday, August 30, 2019, at approximately 10:23 p.m., police received reports of a collision in the area of Sheppard Avenue East between Abbotsfield Gate and Palmdale Drive.

It is alleged that:

- a woman was standing in the centre turn lane, crossing Sheppard Avenue East from the south side to the north side, believed to be waiting for a break in westbound traffic

- the suspect vehicle was travelling eastbound on Sheppard Ave East at a high speed in the centre turn lane

- the suspect vehicle struck the woman, continued east on Sheppard Avenue East, and was last seen making a right turn onto southbound Warden Avenue

Further investigation, including forensic evidence, has revealed the following information about the suspect vehicle:

- the paint of the vehicle is metallic grey in colour (a darker grey tone, not silver)

- this paint colour was manufactured in Japan for Mitsubishi vehicles, between the years of 2005-2009 (possibly a Lancer or Outlander model)

- glass was also found in the victim’s clothing, confirming that there was windshield damage

A special appeal is being made to body shops and car dealerships to note this new information, and to contact investigators if they have repaired vehicles of a similar description since Friday, August 30, 2019.

We are urging to members of the public to report any suspicious vehicles.
