Homicide #81/2018, 230 Sackville Street, Mackai Bishop Jackson, 15

On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at 4:21 p.m., officers responded to a shooting call at 230 Sackville Street.

Responding officers located a boy in medical distress with obvious trauma.

The boy succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Mackai Bishop Jackson, 15, of Toronto.

His photograph has been released.

Sexual Assault Alert, Man Wanted, Broadview Avenue and Dundas Street East area

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance with a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, between 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.,
a female was walking in the area of Broadview Avenue and Dundas Street East

- she was approached from behind and thrown on the ground and was sexually assaulted by an unknown man

- the man then released the woman and fled on foot

He is described as white, 25-30 years old, 6', dark blond hair. He was last seen wearing black jogging pants, black hoodie pulled over head and carrying a cell phone.

Police seek assistance identifying man wanted in Sexual Assault investigation, Islington Avenue and Elmhurst Drive area, Security Camera images of male released

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance identifying a man wanted in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at approximately 4 p.m., an 18-year-old woman was in the Islington Avenue and Elmhurst Drive area

- she was approached by a man and sexually assaulted

The man is described as black between 18-20 years, approximately 5'4", had a small build, unkempt hair, and patchy facial hair.

Security camera images of the man are released.

Mclean Casey, 40, was last seen on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at approximately 8 p.m., in the Queen Street West and Ossington Avenue area.

He is described as 5’8”, 200 lbs., short black hair, brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black coat, grey shirt, and brown pants.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Fatal collision #49/2018, St Clair Avenue East and Jeanette Street Driver of Chrysler mini-van sought

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 7:09 a.m., police responded to a call for an unknown trouble at St. Clair Ave. E. and Jeanette St.

It is reported that:

- a 61-year-old man was crossing St. Clair Avenue East at the east side of Jeanette Street

- a Black Chrysler mini-van was travelling east on St. Clair Avenue East in the left lane and struck the man

- the driver of the mini-van fled the scene

- the pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries

Investigators are seeking assistance from the public in locating the vehicle and identifying the driver. Information to be aware of to assist in this effort:

- the collision occurred during morning rush hour and seized video shows that there were several other motorists in the area who may have observed the collision

- the passenger side mirror of the suspect vehicle was left behind at the scene and is a Chrysler part

- the suspect vehicle is believed to have new damage to the passenger side

Police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash-camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

A photograph of the suspect vehicle is released.

Two men and two women, face 33 charges in firearm, drug and proceeds of crime investigation, Guns, drugs, cash seized

The Toronto Police Service Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force (IGGTF) started an investigation into individuals believed to be involved in illicit drug activity and illegal firearms possession.

This investigation led to the execution of multiple search warrants.

On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, search warrants were executed on residences and automobiles in the Bayview Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East area, the Corporate Drive and Consilium Place area, and the Kennedy Road and 16th Avenue area.

As a result, two men and two women were arrested and charged with numerous firearm, drug, and proceeds of crime-related offences.

It is alleged that the following was seized:

- a loaded 40 calibre semi-automatic handgun
- a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun
- additional ammunition
- approximately 700 grams of cocaine
- approximately 165 grams of fentanyl
- approximately $170,000 in proceeds of crime

Shane Smith-Thomas, 29, of Markham, and Melissa Papanikolov, 30, both of Toronto, have each been charged with:

1. Possess Restricted Or Prohibited Firearm Without Holding A Licence And Registration Certificate
2. Possess Loaded Prohibited Firearm
3. Possess Firearm Other Than Restricted Or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding A Licence
4. Possess Firearm, Etc. Obtained By Crime
5. Use/Handle/Store Firearm, Etc. Carelessly
6. Use/Handle/Store Ammunition Carelessly
7. Alter Serial Number On Firearm
8. Occupy Motor Vehicle With Firearm

Shane Smith-Thomas was additionally charged with:

1. Possess Firearm, Etc. While Prohibited


Kyle Small, 26, and Roxanne Cole, 24, both of Toronto, have each been charged with:

1. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
2. Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
4. Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
5. Careless Storage of a Firearm
6. Careless Storage of Ammunition
7. Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
8. Possession of Proceeds of Crime

They all appeared in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, room 103.

On Friday, September 21, 2018, at 4:07 p.m., officers responded to a call for See Ambulance in the Nuthatch Lane and Doctor O Lane area.

The driver of that vehicle remains outstanding.

The Toronto Police Service is pleased to be hosting a graduation ceremony for 27 new police recruits on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at noon, at the Toronto Police College, 70 Birmingham Street.

In attendance for this special occasion will be Mayor John Tory, Toronto Police Services Board Chair Andrew Pringle, Toronto Police Services Board Vice Chair Jim Hart, Chief Mark Saunders, Deputy Chief Barbara McLean, Deputy Chief Shawna Coxon, Deputy Chief Peter Yuen, Deputy Chief Jim Ramer, and Chief Administrative Officer Tony Veneziano.

The graduating class is representative of Toronto’s diverse cultural community and brings a superior level of varied knowledge and abilities to the Service, including language skills, previous military or policing experience and post-secondary education.

The class is comprised of 18.5% women and 22% visible minority members. A total of 96% successfully completed post-secondary education and 41% have previous military or policing experience. The majority of the class speak another language other than English, including Arabic, French, Portuguese, Urdu, Hindi, Macedonian, Punjabi, Turkish, Japanese, Dari and Farsi.

Alythe Ford, 78, was last seen on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 5 p.m., in the Finch Avenue West at Albion Road area.

She is described as approximately 5’ 2”, 116 lbs., with a small build, brown eyes, and black curly hair. She was last seen wearing red pants, a red and white top, white shoes, and a yellow and navy blue vest with the letters “USW” on the left shoulder.

The Toronto Police is appealing to the public for assistance with an investigation into a traffic fatality.

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 7:09 a.m., police responded to a Traffic Fatality in the St. Clair Avenue East and Jeanette Street area.

It is reported that:

- a 61-year-old man was crossing St. Clair Avenue East at the east side of Jeanette Street

- a Black Chrysler mini-van was travelling east on St. Clair Avenue East in the left lane and struck the man

- the driver of the mini-van fled the scene

Personal Injury Collision #42/2018, Sheppard Avenue East near Allanford Road, Fail to Remain Collision - Pedestrian Struck

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 8:54 p.m., police responded to a call for a Fail to Remain Collision that occurred on Sheppard Avenue East just east of Allanford Road.

It is reported that:

- a 79-year-old man was crossing Sheppard Avenue East near Allanford Road

- a vehicle, travelling east on Sheppard Avenue East struck the pedestrian

- the driver did not stop and fled the scene

The man was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle is described as a possible dark-coloured SUV.

Traffic Services investigators are seeking assistance from the public in locating the vehicle and identifying the driver.

Police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash-camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

Homicide #75/2018, 103 West Lodge Avenue, Security camera images released of outstanding suspect

On Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 11:27 p.m., officers responded to a call for a Suspicious Death at 103 West Lodge Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a man lying on the front driveway with serious injuries. He was pronounced at the scene.

He was identified as Chad Day, 42, of Toronto.

On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, with the assistance of the Hamilton Police Service, Lee Newelln, 30, and Christopher Small, 28, both of Hamilton, were arrested and charged.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying the one suspect still outstanding.

The man wanted is described as 20-30, wearing a black baseball hat, red sweater with white stripes, and dark pants.

Arrest made in firearm investigation, Keante Gayle-Johnson, 20

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a firearm investigation.

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 5:12 p.m., officers investigated a Wanted Man in the Cameron Street and Grange Court area.

It is alleged that the following was seized:

- a loaded .22 caliber handgun
- 9 rounds of ammunition
- .91 grams of hashish

Keante Gayle-Johnson, 20, of Toronto, was arrested on the strength of a warrant. He is charged with:

1. Careless Storage of a Firearm or Ammunition
2. Carry Concealed Weapon
3. Possession of a Restricted Firearm without a Licence
4. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
5. Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
6. Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
7. Possession of a Firearm with an altered Serial Number
8. Possession of a Schedule II substance
9. Fail to Comply Recognizance
10. Fail to Comply Recognizance

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Thursday, September, 27, 2018, at 10 a.m., in room 101.

Man arrested in Attempt Murder investigation, McCowan Road and Sheppard Avenue East area, Corey Denton, 28, facing charges, Photograph attached

The Toronto Police would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in an Attempt Murder investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at 6:55 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of McCowan Road and Sheppard Avenue East,

- officers located a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound,

- he was taken to hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.

As a result of an investigation by members of 42 Division, Major Crime Unit, Corey Denton, 28, of Toronto, was identified as the person allegedly responsible for the shooting.

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, he was arrested in the area of Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East.

It is further alleged:

- at the time of his arrest, Corey Denton was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.

He has been charged with the following offences:

1. Attempted Murder
2. Aggravated Assault
3. Discharge Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life
4. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
5. Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
6. Carrying a Concealed Weapon
7. Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unlawful
8. Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to a Prohibition Order
9. Fail to Comply With a Recognizance
10. Fail to Comply With a Probation Order

He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East, courtroom 412, at 10 a.m.

SickKids GetLoud, Saturday, September 29, 2018, Road closures

SickKids GetLoud will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2018, from 11 a.m., to 1 p.m. SickKids GetLoud is a 5km march in the downtown area, followed by a festival at Fort York.

Approximately 4,500 marchers will start marching at 11 a.m., from Coronation Park. The marchers will primarily be on the sidewalk. There may be some overflow onto the roadways at times.

The route will be:

- eastbound Martin Goodman Trail at Coronation Park
- eastbound Queens Quay
- northbound Lower Simcoe Street
- westbound Wellington Street West
- southbound Blue Jays Way
- southbound Navy Wharf Crescent
- westbound Bremner Boulevard
- westbound Fort York Boulevard

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should consider alternate methods of transportation.

Public Safety Alert, 60 cases of vandalism to vehicles in Leslieville in three months, Security camera images of suspect released

55 Division wants to make the public aware of numerous acts of vandalism in Leslieville.

Since Sunday, July 1, 2018, 60 reports of damage to vehicles have been reported to police. In most of these reports, tires have been cut or punctured. These incidents have occurred in the evening to early morning. Many of these incidents, but not all, have occurred on Wednesday night to Thursday mornings.

The offence locations are within the Leslieville area, from Gerrard Street East to Eastern Avenue and from Boulton Avenue to Marjory Avenue.

Police are asking residents to be aware and vigilant and to report suspicious activity in their neighbourhood. Further, residents are asked to check for damage before driving their vehicle.

Police are also requesting that any surveillance cameras be reviewed and forwarded to police if owners notice any footage that may assist investigators with identifying anyone responsible for these crimes.

Security camera images of a suspect have been released.

He is described as 25-30, 5'10", 190 lbs., and was last seen wearing dark pants, dark sweater, and olive-coloured baseball cap.

Homicide #37/2018, Yonge-Dundas Square, Israel Edwards, 18, update, 17-year-boy arrested

On Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at 11:09 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting near Yonge-Dundas Square.

On Thursday, September 27, 2018, a 17-year-old boy, of Toronto, was arrested.

He is charged with:

1. Second Degree Murder
2. Attempt Murder
3. Possession of a Restricted Firearm

He is scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis, on Friday, September 28, 2018, at 9 a.m., in room 1.

The boy cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
