Personal injury collision #41/2018, Steeles Avenue West at Keele Street

On Monday, September 17, 2018, at 10:02 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Steeles Avenue West at Keele Street.

It is reported that:

- a man, 55, was driving a 2009 International semi-trailer westbound on Steeles Avenue West, attempting to turn right to northbound Keele Street

- a woman, 19, was riding a bicycle westbound on Steeles Avenue West, approaching Keele Street

- the woman was struck by the vehicle

The 19-year-old woman received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash-camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance identifying a man wanted in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Monday, September 17, 2018, at approximately 6:50 a.m., a 22-year-old woman was in the Bay Street and Gerrard Street West area

- a man approached her and sexually assaulted her

The man is described as around 30, 5'6", clean-shaven, possibly bald, very red left eye.

Security camera images of the man are released.

The Ashura Parade will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The curb and middle lanes of northbound Yonge Street will be closed from Empress Avenue to Centre Avenue, south of Steeles Avenue.

Traffic will be able to proceed in the passing lane of northbound Yonge Street.

Motorists can expect traffic delays in the area.

Homicide #78/2018, 4559 Sheppard Avenue East, Victim identified

On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at 9:37 p.m., police responded to a shooting at 4559 Sheppard Avenue East.

Officers arrived on scene and located a man with a gunshot wound on the ground at the rear of the address. He was pronounced at the scene.

He has been identified as Jago Anderson, 19, of Toronto.

It is reported that:

- a dark-coloured newer-model SUV was observed fleeing the scene, travelling eastbound on Sheppard Avenue East

The 2018 Toronto Police Service United Way Greater Toronto annual fundraising campaign will kick off in the lobby of police headquarters on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at 11 a.m.

Chief Mark Saunders will be joined at the kick-off by Toronto Police Services Board Vice-Chair Councillor Jim Hart, Senior Officers' Organization President Superintendent Robert Johnson, Toronto Police Association President Mike McCormack, and United Way Greater Toronto Senior Vice President of Donor Relations & Marketing Goody Gibson.

A sock drive to benefit people using United Way agencies will also be launched with the help of Superintendent Reuben Stroble, McGregor Industries Vice President of Sales Rob Stanley and Haven Toronto Executive Director Lauro Monteiro.

A donation box for new socks will be set up at Toronto Police Service headquarters as well as police stations. It is estimated that people using shelters in the city will walk as many as 15 km each day to access social services.

Toronto Police Service United Way Greater Toronto fundraising has seen over $9 million raised by Service members over the past 20 years.

Public Safety Alert, Downtown core, Wireless payment terminal thefts

The Toronto Police Service is issuing an alert to businesses who utilize wireless payment terminals during the course of their business in the downtown core.

Recent reports suggest an increase in wireless payment terminal thefts which are, in turn, used to facilitate fraud.

The Toronto Police Service is recommending that wireless payment terminals are securely stored away when not in use and that staff supervise the terminals when they are being utilized.

Two men arrested in Discharge Firearm Investigation, Jane Street and Steeles Avenue area, Search warrants executed, Three firearms seized

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of two arrests in a Discharge Firearm investigation.

On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at 5:40 a.m., two men drove to the Jane Street and Steeles Avenue West area.

It is alleged that:

- the men entered a parking lot in a residential town house complex and discharged a firearm multiple times into a parked vehicle

- the men left the area in a vehicle

The Toronto Police Service started an investigation with the assistance of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Officers from the West Command Gun Violence Suppression Unit applied for, and were granted, multiple Criminal Code search warrants for addresses and the vehicle associated to the two men.

It is further alleged that:

- on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, officers located both men at separate Kitchener residential addresses

- they were both arrested without incident

It is further alleged that, during the search of the residences, police located and seized:

- a 9mm Walther P38 handgun
- a .22 calibre Black and Owen revolver
- a semi-automatic assault rifle
- quantities of various calibres of ammunition

Tyler Hewitt-Debrusk, 22, of Kitchener, has been arrested and charged with:

1) Discharge Firearm into a Place/Reckless to Others
2) Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
3) Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm
4) Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm without Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate
5) Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly not Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate


Zachariah Deveau, 22, of Kitchener, has been arrested and charged with:

1 Discharge Firearm into a Place/Reckless to Others
2) Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
3) Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm
4) Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm without Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate
5) Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly not Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate
6) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
7) Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
8) Careless Storage of Ammunition
9) Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm without Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate
10) two counts of Possess Firearm While Prohibited
11) Careless Storage of a Firearm
12) Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
13) two counts of Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm without Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate
14) Possess Firearm while Prohibited

Both men are scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, September 20, 2018.

Homicide #79/2018, Yonge Street and Wedgewood Drive, Nader Fadael, 45

On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at 8:05 p.m., the Toronto Police Service received a 9-1-1 call for a stabbing at the corner of Yonge Street and Wedgewood Drive.

Once on scene, officers located a man with severe trauma related to an edged weapon. Toronto Paramedic Services attended and an emergency run was initiated. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. The man succumbed to his injuries while en route to hospital where he was pronounced.

He has been identified as Nader Fadael, 45, of Toronto.

There will be no photograph released at this time.

Oasis Zoo Run, Saturday, September 22, 2018, Road closures

On Saturday, September 22, 2018, the "Oasis Zoo Run" will take place. Organizers are expecting 3,000 participants for the road portion of the event. Only the 10K run will leave the Zoo's property.

On Saturday, September 22, 2018, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., road closures will start.

Formation Area will be Toronto Zoo parking lot 1 – section E
- all southbound lanes on Meadowvale Road
- U-Turn at Meadowvale Road at Zoo Road Bridge
- Northbound -Meadowvale Road switch to southbound lanes at Zoo Road lights
- Westbound- Old Finch Avenue
- South-Into Zoo Driveway (Administration Building Driveway “A”)
- Finish- Canadian Domain (within Zoo grounds)

The first 3K of this run take place on the roadways, the remaining 7K take place within the Toronto Zoo.

This event will proceed regardless of weather conditions.
