Man, 20, arrested, Faces eight charges in shooting investigation, Firearm recovered, Photograph of firearm released

On Monday, September 3, 2018, at 3:51 p.m., the Toronto Police Service responded to a shooting call in the Markham Road and Painted Post Drive area.

It is alleged that:

- a man entered a restaurant and placed a take-out order

- while inside the restaurant, the man accidentally shot himself with a gun he had hidden in his pants

- the man left in a vehicle and discarded the gun

- he continued driving and was involved in a Fail-to-Remain collision in the Brimorton Drive and Scarborough Golf Club Road area

- the man abandoned the vehicle and ran into a nearby house where he was arrested

It is further alleged that:

- investigators from 43 Division Major Crime Unit, with the assistance of TPS Dog Services, conducted an exhaustive search for the discarded firearm

- an area of interest was identified in the area of the Highland Creek west ravine

- on Tuesday September 4, 2018, at 2:30 p.m., officers located a loaded A&B Arms Aero Survival sawed-off rifle

- the gun was found hidden in the wooded area of the ravine

On Monday September 3, 2018 at 4:13 p.m., Abdihakim Saeed, 20, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
2) Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Not Authorized
3) Possession of a Loaded Firearm
4) Possession of Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
5) Possess Firearm Knowing its Serial Number has been defaced
6) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
7) Fail to Remain at Scene of Accident
8) Careless use of Firearm

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East, on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, 10 a.m., room 411

Three men arrested for firearm and drug offences after traffic stop, St. Dennis Drive and Linkwood Lane area, Face total of 72 charges, Photographs of firearms and drugs released

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of three arrests following a traffic stop.

On Monday, September 3, 2018, at 9:50 p.m., members of the Toronto Police Service investigated a motor vehicle in the St. Dennis Drive and Linkwood Lane area for a Highway Traffic Act offence.

It is alleged that:

- during this investigation, a loaded handgun and a loaded rifle were found in the vehicle as well as quantity of cocaine

Three men were arrested.

Mohamed Ashaqzai, 20, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
3) two counts of Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
4) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
5) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
6) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
7) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
8) two counts of Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm
9) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
10) two counts of Careless Storage – Ammunition
11) two counts of Unauthorized Possession Device/Ammunition
12) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered
13) two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime


Mohammad Patel, 20, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
3) two counts of Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
4) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
5) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
6) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
7) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
8) two counts of Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm
9) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime

Hashim Randhawa, 20, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
3) two counts of Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
4) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
5) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
6) two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
7) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
8) two counts of Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm
9) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
10) two counts of Careless Storage – Ammunition
11) two counts of Unauthorized Possession Device/Ammunition
12) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered
13) two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

All three men were scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, 10 a.m., room 103.

Craig Tucker, 40, was last seen on Friday, August 31, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., in the Queen Street West and Ossington Avenue area.

He is described as 5’8”, 180 lbs., medium build. There is no clothing description available.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Members of the public are advised not to approach him, but to call 9-1-1 immediately if he is seen.

Carol Dewar, 61, was last seen on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 5:30 p.m., in the Rosemount Avenue and King Street area.

She is described as 5’6”, heavy build, hair worn in a bun. She was last seen wearing a leopard-print shirt, blue jeans, white running shoes, carrying several gift bags.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Police seek assistance with Discharge Firearm investigation, Campbell Avenue and Wallace Avenue area, Security camera video released

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance with a Discharge Firearm investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at approximately 7:56 p.m., an unknown number of suspects were in a white Nissan Micra in the Campbell Avenue and Wallace Avenue area

- a number of shots were fired at several people on the porch of a residence by the vehicle's occupants

- no injuries were reported

Security camera video has been released.

Investigators are appealing to anyone with information about this event who has not yet spoken to police, or anyone driving in the area who has dash-cam video, to contact them.

Taste of Kingsway, Friday, September 7, 2018 to Sunday, September 9, 2018, Road closure

From Friday, September 7, 2018 to Sunday, September 9, 2018, a portion of Bloor Street West between Prince Edward Drive and Montgomery Road will be closed for the annual Taste of Kingsway festival.

The event is expected to host more than 250,000 people.

Northbound and southbound traffic along Royal York Road will remain open during the festival hours.

The closure will start on Friday, September 7, 2018, at 12 a.m., until Sunday, September 9, 2018, at 11 p.m.

Motorists are advised to consider avoiding the area and be aware of the road closure when planning their travels.

The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions.

Kevin Barreau, 21, wanted in ongoing Human Trafficking investigation, Faces 14 charges, Photograph of man released

In July 2017, members of the Sex Crimes Human Trafficking Enforcement Team started an investigation into a Human Trafficking incident.

It is alleged that:

- in June 2017, a man forced a 19-year-old woman to work in the sex trade and to turn over all the money earned to him

- she was trafficked by him in Ontario and Quebec

- she was forced to abide by rules he imposed

- he gave her a quota that she was to meet each day

Kevin Barreau, 21, of unknown city, is wanted on a warrant for:

1) Trafficking In Persons over 18
2) Material Benefit from Trafficking In Persons over 18
3) Procuring
4) Exercise Control
5) Advertising Another Person's Sexual Services
6) Uttering Threats
7) Fraud Under $5000
8) two counts of Fraudulently Obtain Lodging
9) two counts of Fraud Under $5000
10) three counts of Use Credit Card Obtained by Offence

He is described as 6’2”, 230 lbs., hair shaved at sides of head.

It is believed he is somewhere in the Montreal area.

Police are urging him to turn himself in to the nearest police station.

Police seek assistance identifying man in Extortion investigation, Spadina Avenue and D'Arcy Street area, Security camera video and images of man released

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance locating and identifying a man wanted in an Extortion Investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Monday, June 18, 2018, at approximately 11 p.m., a man smashed the window of a business in the Spadina Avenue and D'Arcy Street area

- the man tossed a note inside the business, demanding money with threats to the business if money not received within 24 hours

- this was the third note left at the business within a two-week period

Security camera video has been released.

Investigators are urging any other businesses, that have been targets of extortion in Chinatown that have not reported the incident, to contact police.

It is alleged that:

- on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 6 p.m., an 18-year-old woman was contacted by a man to meet in the Finch Avenue West and Dufferin Street area

- the woman was then sexually assaulted by the man

On Wednesday, September 5, 2018, Richard McKenzie, 45, of Brampton, surrendered to investigators and was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Sexual Assault

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, October 11, 2018, 1 p.m., room 301

Saturday, September 8, 2018, Toronto 5km Run for Sick Kids Hospital Foundation, Road closures

On Saturday, September 8, 2018, The Running Room will host their 8th annual 5km run. The event will start at 8 a.m. and is expected to attract 1,500 participants.

Road closures will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the route will be as follows:

- start and finish line will be St. Clair Avenue West and Wells Hill Park
- eastbound St. Clair Avenue West to Russell Hill Road
- southbound Russell Hill Road to Boulton Drive
- westbound Boulton Drive continuing onto MacPherson Avenue
- westbound MacPherson Avenue to Cottingham Road
- westbound Cottingham Road to Davenport Road
- westbound Davenport Road to Christie Street
- northbound Christie Street to St. Clair Avenue West
- eastbound St. Clair Avenue West to Wells Hill Park

The public should not park their vehicles along the route on Saturday, September 8, 2018, from 5 a.m. to approximately 9:30 a.m.

Vehicles in the area, including TTC, may experience traffic delays during the event.

This event will proceed regardless of weather conditions.
