Missing man, Yonge Street and Drewry Avenue area, David Fitzgerald, 55

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance locating a missing man.

David Fitzgerald, 55, was last seen on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at noon, in the Yonge Street and Drewry Avenue area.

He is described as 6’0”, 180 lbs., thin build, short grey hair, brown eyes, unshaven. He is possibly carrying a red-and-grey backpack.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Fail-to-Remain collision, 50 Graydon Hall Drive, Driver and vehicle sought, Update, Man, 54, arrested and charged, Vehicle seized

On Monday, August 27, 2018, the Toronto Police Service requested assistance identifying a vehicle and its driver in a Fail-to-Remain collision investigation.

It was alleged that:

- some time before 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018, an 82-year-old man was struck and killed in the underground garage at 50 Graydon Hall Drive.

- the vehicle involved did not remain at the scene

On Tuesday, August 28, 2018, Paul Veenhop, 54, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Leave accident scene resulting bodily harm or death

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, 10 a.m., room 306.

It is alleged that:

- officers seized the vehicle in question

David Fitzgerald, 55, was last seen on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at noon, in the Yonge Street and Drewry Avenue area.

He is described as 6'0", 180 lbs., medium build, short thinning unkempt white hair with bald spot at the rear, clean-shaven or stubble, brown eyes with dark eyebrows. He was last seen wearing black casual shoes, grey trackpants, black cardigan sweater with no shirt underneath. He was carrying a red backpack with grey trim, shoulder straps. He walks slightly stooped with a hunched back.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Three men arrested in ongoing investigation into cell phone store Robberies, Facing total of 15 charges, Two men still outstanding

Toronto Police Service Hold Up would like to make the public aware of three arrests in an ongoing investigation into cell phone store Robberies.

It is alleged that:

- on Thursday, August 23, 2018, two men attended a cellular store in the Albion Road and Islington Avenue area

- the two men posed as customers and inquired about several phones

- they left and returned about ten minutes later, along with two more men who had their faces partially concealed

- the initial men began pushing the victim away from the counter, attempting to get to the cell phones

- one man lifted up his hoodie and displayed the butt of a handgun

- all four men fled the store emptyhanded


It is further alleged that:

- on Monday, August 20, 2018, three men attended a cell phone sale and repair store in the Danforth Avenue and Greenwood Avenue area

- one man indicated to the victim that he was armed with a gun while two men jumped over the counter and removed several phones from the shelves


It is further alleged that:

- on Friday, July 27, 2018, two men entered a cell phone store in the Parliament Street and Dundas Street East area and asked about purchasing a new phone

- the victim showed the men several phones

- one man walked to the other side of the shop and jumped the counter, removing cell phones from the display

- the victim attempted to intervene but he was grabbed and threatened not to interfere

Following an investigation by TPS Hold Up, on Friday, August 24, 2018, three men were arrested.

Damian Blackett, 19, and Adrian Fraser, 25, both of Toronto, were each charged with:

1) three counts of Robbery with Violence
2) three counts of Disguise with Intent


John Fraser, 28, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Possession of Cocaine
2) Possession for the Purpose - Cocaine
3) Possessions of Proceeds of Crime

They all appeared in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, August 25, 2018, room 101.

The investigation is ongoing and two men are still outstanding. One of the men was in possession of a handgun. They are described as black, 20-25, and were disguised.

Nate Daley, 18, from Calgary and not familiar with Toronto, was last seen on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 2 p.m., in the Lawrence Avenue West and Weston Road area

He is described as wearing a black T-shirt with white T-shirt underneath, blue jeans, black baseball hat with white logo.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Homicide #67/2018, Kafi Abshir, 30, 5 Bellevue Crescent, Update, Boy, 17, charged with First-Degree Murder

On Friday, August 24, 2018, at approximately 5:01 a.m., officers responded to a call for a stabbing in the 5 Bellevue Crescent area.

Officers arrived to find a man with obvious trauma. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced.

The victim was identified as Kafi Abshir, 30, of Toronto.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested a short time later on an unrelated matter by York Regional Police Service.

On Monday, August 27, 2018, the 17-year-old boy was charged with:

1) First-Degree Murder

He appeared in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West.

The boy cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He is wanted on a Warrant for:

1) Three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
2) Failing to Comply with Disposition
3) Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
4) 11 counts of Possessing Credit Card Obtained by Offence
5) Two counts of Failing to Comply with Undertaking
6) Theft of Motor Vehicle

His photograph has been released.

On Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 9:43 p.m., police responded to a call for a stabbing in the 235 Sherway Gardens Road area.

One of the victims, with a life-threatening stab wound, was pronounced in hospital on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.

He has been identified as Kristopher Quiroz-Brown, 19, of Toronto.

His photograph has been released.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who witnessed, or has information regarding, this homicide to contact them.

Two people arrested in firearm and drug investigation, Lynn Williams Street and Western Battery Road area, Gun and drugs seized

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of two arrests in a firearm and drug investigation.

On Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at approximately 10:35 p.m., police executed a search warrant in the Lynn Williams Street and Western Battery Road area.

It is alleged that:

- during the search of a residence, investigators located and seized a loaded firearm, a Glock Model #17- 9 mm, 988.76 grams of cocaine, a vacuum sealer and kilo press

Manh Cuong Bui, 33, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) Possess Loaded Restricted Firearm
3) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
4) Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
5) Careless Storage of a Firearm
6) Possession of a Firearm contrary to Prohibition Order
7) Possession of Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order


Lina Dang, 34, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) Possess Loaded Restricted Firearm
3) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
4) Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
5) Careless Storage of a Firearm

They were scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, 10 a.m., room 103.

Personal injury collision #37/2018, Islington Avenue at Aylesbury Road, Motorcyclist struck pedestrian, fled scene

On Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at 5:25 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Islington Avenue at Aylesbury Road.

It is reported that:

- an 81-year-old female pedestrian was walking eastbound, crossing Islington Avenue at Aylesbury Road

- a motorcycle was travelling southbound in the passing lane on Islington Avenue, approaching Aylesbury Road

- the motorcycle struck the pedestrian

- the rider of the motorcycle did not stop and fled the scene

The pedestrian was taken to hospital.

Police are asking local residents, business, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

TPS invites public to complete mid-year online survey, Implementation of new policing model

As the Toronto Police Service continues on "The Way Forward" and its implementation of a new policing model for the city of Toronto that is innovative, sustainable, and affordable, it is important to understand the public’s current perspective about the Service and the work it's doing.

To get a mid-year perspective, the public is invited to provide a quick check-in survey.

The short online survey is available until Sunday evening, September 16, 2018.

The annual TPS community survey will take place at the end of 2018 to get a more detailed view of how the public is viewing the Service’s progress.

About the Action Plan: The Way Forward

Mandated to look beyond the way policing is currently done in Toronto, the Transformational Task Force (TTF) proposed a modernized policing model for the city that is innovative, sustainable, and affordable. The final report - Action Plan: The Way Forward – contains 32 recommendations and was accepted by the Toronto Police Services Board in February 2017 as the Service’s Business Plan for the next three years. The Toronto Police Service is now implementing this modernization plan. The new model will place communities at its core, be intelligence-led, optimize the use of resources and technology, and embrace partnerships as a means of enhancing capacity and capability.
