Cavalcade of Lights, Saturday, November 25, 2017, Road closures

On Saturday, November 25, 2017, the City of Toronto will hold the 51st Annual Cavalcade of Lights. The pre-show starts at 6 p.m. Between 7 p.m., and 9:40 p.m., there will be live music on the stage. The event will also include the lighting of City Hall's Christmas Tree at 7:30 p.m., a pyrotechnics show at 8:30 p.m., and public skating throughout the event.

There will be road closures for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic between 4 p.m., and 11:30 p.m., at:

- Queen Street West, from Yonge Street to University Avenue
- Bay Street, from Dundas Street West to Richmond Street
- James Street, from Queen Street West to Albert Street
- Albert Street, from James Street to Bay Street
- York Street, from Richmond Street West to Queen Street West
- Hagerman Street, from Elizabeth Street to Bay Street
- Elizabeth Street, from Foster Place to Hagerman Street

The road closures will result in the diversion of the Queen 501 streetcar and the Bay 6 bus between 4 p.m. and midnight.

Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes.

He is described as 5’11”, 180 lbs., brown eyes, black hair.

Miguel Ramsamugh 25, was last seen on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 5:45 p.m., in The East Mall and Talgarth Road area.

He is described as 5’4”, medium build, black wavy shoulder-length hair. He was last seen wearing a black toque, green sweater, black vest, black jeans, black running shoes.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Federal inmate wanted, Karl Battle, 24, Photograph released

The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R.O.P.E.) Squad is requesting assistance locating a federal offender wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant as a result of his alleged breach of parole.

Karl Battle, 24, is described as 5’3”, 169 lbs., brown hair, hazel eyes. He has tattoos on his left upper arm of a banner with designs, and a heart and scars on his right wrist and his right forearm.

He is serving a three-year, seven-month sentence for:

1) Assault Cause Bodily Harm
2) Break-and-Enter
3) Theft Under
4) Theft of Motor Vehicle

He is known to frequent the St Catharines, Hamilton, Toronto, Whitby, Lindsay and Peterborough areas.

On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at 11:52 a.m., police responded to a stabbing in the Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West area.

On Thursday, November 23, 2017, a 16-year old girl surrendered to investigators at 12 Division. She was arrested and charged with:

1) Accessory After the Fact To Murder

She was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, November 23, 2017.

Christopher Enrique Gordon, 18, of no fixed address, is wanted on a Canada Wide Arrest Warrant for:

1) Second-Degree Murder

He is described as 6'4", 150 lbs., with a slender build, and black hair in braids.

He is considered armed and dangerous. If located, do not approach. Call 9-1-1 immediately.

Demetrius McFarquhar, 24, of Toronto, is wanted on a Canada Wide Arrest Warrant for:

1) Accessory After the Fact To Murder
2) Attempting to Obstruct Justice
3) Failing to Comply Recognizance

Anyone in the community who is found harboring/assisting/providing comfort to these two men will themselves face criminal consequences.

Driver and vehicle sought in Fail-to-Remain collision, Steeles Avenue East at Laureleaf Road, Video released, Update, Vehicle information released

On Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at 8:48 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Steeles Avenue East and Laureleaf Road.

It is reported that:

- a white sedan was travelling southbound on Laureleaf Road, attempting to make a left turn to eastbound Steeles Avenue East

- a woman, 61, was attempting to cross Steeles Avenue East, from the south side to the north side, in the pedestrian crossing

- as the driver of the vehicle attempted to make the left turn, the vehicle struck the pedestrian

- both the driver and the vehicle failed to remain at the scene following the collision

- the vehicle was last seen travelling eastbound on Steeles Avenue East

The 61-year-old woman received serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The vehicle sought in this collision is described as a white 2014-2016 Mazda 3 Sport GT hatchback.

Ongoing investigation into series of Thefts from vehicles, Koreatown and The Annex areas, Two men arrested, Photographs of men released

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of two arrests in an ongoing investigation into a series of thefts from vehicles, in the general areas of Koreatown and The Annex.

It is alleged that:

- during November 2017, there were several reports of vehicles being broken into, and several items removed from the vehicles, in and around Koreatown and The Annex

- as a result, 14 Division Major Crime Unit started an investigation

- on Monday, November 13, 2017, Thien Xuan Nguyen, 48, and Van Hung Le, 56, both of Toronto, were identified as the perpetrators of two of the incidents. The investigation into the other occurrences is ongoing.

Both men have been charged with:

1) Mischief Under
2) Theft Under
3) Fail to comply Probation

The Toronto Police Service is urging the public, specifically in the areas mentioned above, to always to leave their unattended vehicles locked. If items of value are stored in the vehicle, please ensure that they are out of sight. Please report any suspicious behaviour or persons possibly involved in similar activities to police.

Suspicious incident, Kingston Road and Warden Avenue area

On Thursday, November 23, 2017, at approximately 6 a.m., the Toronto Police Service received a call for a suspicious incident.

It was reported that:

- a 21-year-old woman was walking in the Kingston Road and Warden Avenue area

- while she was walking to the TTC stop, she noticed a white car

- the trunk of the car was open and there was a male sitting in the trunk with his legs hanging down the back of the car

- another person was driving the car and circled around past the 21-year-old woman

- the car was then observed parked with its engine and lights off

- the car drove towards her at a high rate of speed

- she ran back towards her home as the car followed her

- the car is described as small, white, four-door

Investigators are asking residents in the area to contact them if they witnessed this interaction or have seen a similar car.

Bum Joon Kim, 39, faces 21 charges in ongoing online apartment rental investigation, Update, Nine new charges laid

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in an ongoing online apartment rental investigation.

It is alleged that:

- from July to October 2017, a man posted apartment rental advertisements on the internet

- he then met with "prospective tenants" who responded to the advertisements and showed them various apartment units apparently for rent

- the "prospective tenants" then turned over cash deposits to the man in the belief that the units were theirs to rent

- they later discovered that the units were not available to be rented

On Monday, October 30, 2017, Bum Joon Kim, 39, of no fixed address, was arrested.

He was charged with:

1) three counts of fraud over $5000
2) 18 counts of fraud under $5000

On Wednesday, November 8, 2017, Bum Joon Kim, 39, of no fixed address, was arrested and further charged with:

1) Fraud over $5000
2) eight counts of fraud under $5000

He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Friday, November 10, 2017, 2 p.m., courtroom 111.

Sexual Assault Alert, Mount Pleasant Road and Davisville Avenue area, Man Wanted

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an ongoing Sexual Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Friday, November 24, 2017, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a girl, 15, was walking in the area of Mount Pleasant Road and Davisville Avenue

- the girl was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her

- the man then fled the area

- on the same date, between 12:20 p.m. and 1 p.m., it is believed the same man is responsible for additional sexual assaults, involving girls ranging in age from 12 to 14.

He is described as approximately 50, thin to medium build, with short light brown/greying hair, blue eyes, and acne scars to his face. He was wearing a dark blue sweater and light blue jeans.

Media Advisory, Santa's Streetcar Toy Drive, Saturday, November 25, 2017, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Queen Street East and Kingston Road

Saturday, November 25, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the TTC Kingston Loop, located at Queen Street East and Kingston Road, members of the Toronto Police Service 55 Division Community Response Unit are assisting the Toronto Transit Commission with the first annual Santa's Streetcar Toy Drive.

All Donations received will be going to "TOY MOUNTAIN."

The event will included members of the Toronto Police Service Mounted Unit and Traffic Service.

There will be free food, hot chocolate, and photos with Santa.

A number of local councillors will also be attendance.

Fatal collision #54/2017, Sheppard Avenue East at Victoria Park Avenue

On Friday, November 24, 2017, at 11:48 a.m., police received a call for a personal injury collision at Sheppard Avenue East at Victoria Park Avenue.

It is reported that:

- a man, 70, was attempting to cross Sheppard Avenue East, east of Victoria Park Avenue

- a man, 27, was driving a 2013 Freightliner truck, westbound on Sheppard Avenue East, approaching Victoria Park Avenue

− the pedestrian was struck by the truck as he attempted to cross the road

The man received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he was subsequently pronounced.

She is described as 5'5", 173 lbs, dirty-blonde shoulder-length hair. She was last seen wearing a green sweater with “007” on the left chest area, beige khaki pants, maroon hunter boots, maroon-yellow-and-red fleece blanket wrapped around her, red mittens with happy faces on them.

On Friday, November 24, 2017, at 8:40 a.m., police received a call for a personal injury collision at Verobeach Boulevard at Indrio Road.

It is reported that:

- a woman, 78, was attempting to cross Verobeach Boulevard at Indrio Road, on the east side of Indrio Road

- a man, 44, was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck southbound on Indrio Road, attempting to make a left turn to eastbound Verobeach Road

- the woman was struck by the pickup truck as she attempted to cross the road

The woman received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
