TO Canada With Love Honouring 150 Years

The City of Toronto will be hosting four sanctioned Canada 150 events, collectively known as TO Canada With Love Honouring 150 Years.

The four sites include Mel Lastman Square, Scarborough Civic Centre (which have historically been event sites, and will now be formally included in the 150 celebrations), Nathan Philips Square, and Humber Bay Park West. All sites will have licensed venues, and although some sites will have activations leading up to, and after, July 1, all sites will have a coordinated July 1 program with a pyrotechnic display.

Below are the associated road closures:

Nathan Philips Square:
Friday, June 30, 2017, Sunday, July 2, 2017, and Tuesday, July 3, 2017 from 9 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
- Bay Street, full closure from Dundas Street West to Queen Street West, except access will be permitted for northbound traffic from Albert Street to Dundas Street in a dedicated lane
- Elizabeth Street, closed south of Foster Place
- Hagerman Street, closed from Elizabeth Street to Bay Street
- James Street, closed from Queen Street West

Nathan Philips Square:
Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 12 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
- Bay Street, full closure from Dundas Street West to Queen Street West, except access will be permitted for northbound traffic from Albert Street to Dundas Street in a dedicated lane
- Elizabeth Street, closed south of Foster Place
- Hagerman Street, closed from Elizabeth Street to Bay Street
- James Street, closed from Queen Street West

Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 5 p.m. the road closures will expand to include:
- Bay Street closure will extend to Richmond Street
- Queen Street West, closed from Yonge Street to University Avenue, except access to the Sheraton Hotel from York Street in a dedicated lane

Mel Lastman Square:
Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 8 a.m. to Sunday, July 2, 2017, 1 a.m.
- Yonge Street, all southbound lanes from Park Home Avenue to North York Boulevard
Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 12 p.m., to Sunday, July 2, 2017, 1 a.m.
- Yonge Street all northbound lanes from Elmwood Avenue to Empress Avenue, including Hillcrest Avenue at Yonge Street.

Scarborough Civic Centre:
Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 8 a.m. to Sunday, July 2, 2017, at 8 a.m.
- Borough Drive, from Borough Approach East and Borough Approach West

Humber Bay Park West:
Saturday, July 1, 2017
- Lake Shore Boulevard and Humber Bay Park West

Motorists can expect delays.

Missing woman, Martin Grove Road and Albion Road area, Sunetta Francis, 20

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance locating a missing woman.

Sunetta Francis, 20, was last seen on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 10 a.m., in the Martin Grove Road and Albion Road area.

She is described as 5’6”, 90 lbs, ponytail, last seen wearing an orange tank top, grey leggings with a purple stripe down the side, pink flip-flop sandals with flowers on top.

Police are concerned for her safety.

2017 East York Canada Day Parade, Saturday, July 1, 2017, Road closures

On Saturday, July 1, 2017, the annual East York Canada Day parade will take place. At 10 a.m., the parade will begin near Dieppe Park and finish at approximately 1 p.m., at Stan Wadlow Park.

Participants will assemble for the parade beginning at 9 a.m.

Formation Area: Cosburn Avenue from Greenwood Avenue to Barfield Avenue

The parade route is as follows:

- eastbound on Cosburn Avenue to Coxwell Avenue
- southbound on Coxwell Avenue to Sammon Avenue
- eastbound on Sammon Avenue to Woodbine Avenue
- northbound on Woodbine Avenue to O'Connor Drive

Dispersal Area:
- floats and participants, Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot at Woodbine Avenue and O'Connor Drive
- spectators, Stan Wadlow Park via Trento Avenue

Motorists in the area may experience traffic delays.

Man sought in Sexual Assault on TTC bus, Dufferin Street, south of Eglinton Avenue West, Security camera image of man released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance identifying a man wanted in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at approximately 8 a.m., a woman was on a TTC bus travelling southbound on Dufferin Street, from the Eglinton Avenue West area

- a man on the bus stood beside her and sexually assaulted her

- he then exited the bus at Dufferin subway station, and boarded the eastbound TTC subway at approximately 8:20 a.m.

The man is described as 20s, 5'6", slim build, moustache, wearing black pants, a black hooded jacket with the hood up.

Man, 23, arrested in Assault with a Weapon investigation, Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West area

On Wednesday, June 27, 2017, at 10:20 p.m., police responded to the Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West area for a Person with a Knife call.

It is alleged that:

- two men became involved in a dispute while in the process of dispensing fuel into their respective vehicles

- the dispute escalated quickly and one man armed himself with an edged weapon

- the man attempted to strike the other man with the edged weapon

Seyed-Amir-Ali Sheikholeslami, 23, was arrested at the scene of the incident and has been charged with:

1) Assault with a Weapon
2) Weapons Dangerous

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Thursday, August 10, 2017, 1 p.m., room 301.

Thusanth Ariyanayagam, 22, facing three charges in Assault investigation, Man's photograph released

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in an ongoing Assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, June 4, 2017, a 38-year-old woman observed a man loitering in the lobby of a building in the Brimorton Drive and Markham Road area

- he was armed with a handgun at the time he entered the elevator with her and followed her to an upper floor

- when they got off the elevator, he followed her towards an apartment and subsequently came at her in a very menacing manner

- she managed to fight him off and he eventually fled the area

- the investigation revealed that he had been loitering in the area prior to the assault

On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, a search warrant was executed and Thusanth Ariyanayagam, 22, of Toronto, was arrested.

He was charged with:

1) Assault with a Weapon
2) two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance

2017 Scarborough Canada Day Festivities, Saturday, July 1, 2017, Milliken Park, Steeles Avenue East between McCowan Road and Middlefield Road

On Saturday, July 1, 2017, the Toronto Parks and Recreation Department will be organizing Canada Day Festivities at Milliken Park.

The park is located on the south side of Steeles Avenue East, between McCowan Road and Middlefield Road.

The festivities will consist of a fireworks display beginning at dusk, around 9:30 p.m., weather permitting, lasting for approximately 20-30 minutes.

Motorists can expect delays on Steeles Avenue East in this area during the evening.

Carllove Nadramsingh, 13, was last seen on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 9:50 p.m., in Roywood Park, in the Victoria Park Avenue and York Mills Road area.

She is described as 5’7", 120 lbs, with long curly brown hair. She was last seen wearing a black sweater, black leggings, white shoes.

Police are concerned for her safety.

TTC Robberies, Security camera images of wanted men released

Toronto Police Service Hold Up is seeking assistance identifying the male suspects responsible for two TTC Robberies.

It is reported that:

- on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at approximately 9:15 p.m., two male suspects approached the TTC collector’s booth at Woodbine subway station

- one of the suspects produced a black handgun and pointed it at the TTC employee

- he made a demand for money

- he then racked the gun, ejecting a live round

- the suspects obtained a quantity of cash and made good their escape

Suspect 1 is described as approximately 5'5", moustache and beard.

Suspect 2 is described as approximately 5'7".

It is further reported that:

- on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a male suspect approached the TTC collector's booth at Victoria Park subway station

- he produced a silver handgun and pointed it at the TTC employee

- he made a demand for money

- he then racked the handgun

- he obtained a quantity of cash and tokens

- he was observed in the company of a second male suspect standing outside, whose description is unknown

The main suspect is described as approximately 5'9", moustache and beard.

Security camera images of the wanted men have been released .

Homicide #15/2017, Samatar Farah, 24, Update, Two men charged, two men wanted, Photographs of wanted men released

On Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 8:02 a.m., police were called to Chester Le Boulevard for a See Ambulance call.

Samatar Farah, 24, of Toronto, was identified as the victim of Homicide #15/2017.

On Thursday, June 29, 2017, investigators from TPS Homicide, with the assistance of other TPS officers and officers from the Ottawa Police Service, executed 11 Criminal Code search warrants in Toronto and Ottawa.

These warrants were executed in the:
- Sheppard Ave East and Yonge Street area
- Victoria Park Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East area
- Birchmount Road and Finch Avenue East area
- Neilson Road and Purpledusk Trail area
- Dawes Road and Gower Street area
- Victoria Park Avenue and Parma Court area
- O'Connor Drive and Wakunda Place area
- Albion Road and Lester Road, Ottawa area

As a result, Taufiq Stanley, 20, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) First-Degree Murder
2) Possession of a firearm
3) Possession of a loaded firearm
4) Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
5) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
6) Possession of a firearm obtained by crime
7) Careless storage of a firearm
8) Possession of a prohibited and restricted weapon knowing its possession is prohibited
9) Possession of a firearm knowing its serial number has been tampered with

It is alleged that:

- on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at approximately 6 p.m., police were called to the Chester Le Boulevard area for a shooting

- three men were outside a residence

- two suspects approached them and began shooting at the three men

- the two suspects fled the area in a vehicle occupied by two other male suspects

On Thursday, June 29, 2017, Trevor Barnett, 25, of Toronto, was also arrested.

Taufiq Stanley, 20, and Trevor Barnett, 25, were each charged with:

1) three counts of Attempted Murder

They were scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East, on Thursday, June 29, 2017, 10 a.m.

A Warrant is the First Instance has been issued for Alexander Fountain, 23, of Toronto. He is wanted for:

1) three counts of Attempted Murder
2) First-Degree Murder

A Warrant in the First Instance has been issued for Shaquan McLean, 23, of Toronto. He is wanted for:

1) three counts of Attempted Murder

Their photographs have been released.

On Wednesday, June 28, 2017, the Toronto Police Service announced it was requesting assistance identifying a man wanted in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It was reported that:

- on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at approximately 8 a.m., a woman was on a TTC bus travelling southbound on Dufferin Street, from the Eglinton Avenue West area

- a man on the bus stood beside her and sexually assaulted her

On Wednesday, June 29, 2017, Duy Do, 32, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with:

1) Sexual Assault
2) Assault

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, June 29, 2017, 10 a.m., room 306.
