Man, 28, faces 12 charges in 2010 Robbery and Attempt Murder investigation

Toronto Police Service Hold Up would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a historical Robbery and Attempt Murder investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Friday, August 13, 2010, a man entered a motel near Evans Avenue and The East Mall

- with his sweater pulled up tightly around his face to conceal his identity, he approached the store employee, who was standing behind the counter, and pointed a firearm at him

- he obtained a quantity of cash and fled in an unknown direction

It is further alleged that:

- on September 20, 2010, the same man, and a second unidentified man, entered a phone store in the Finch Avenue West and Weston Road area

- both men wore bandanas to conceal their identities

- the man who was involved in the previous robbery then pulled out a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the employee

- a few customers in the store were chased outside by the second man

- the first man demanded cash and phones from the employee, then fired his gun, striking the employee in the shoulder

- both men removed a quantity of cash from the till and fled

- the victim was taken to hospital where he received treatment for his injury

- further investigation identified the armed man who was responsible for both robberies

- the second suspect is yet to be identified.

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, Muse Abdirahim, 28, of Toronto, was arrested. He has been charged with:

1) two counts of Robbery with a Firearm
2) two counts of Disguise with Intent
3) Attempt Murder
4) Discharge Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life
5) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
6) Possess of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized
7) Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
8) Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
9) two counts of Carry Concealed Weapon

He was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, room 204

On Thursday, June 15, 2017, at noon, in the media gallery at headquarters, Chief Mark Saunders will update the media on Project Kronic.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, June 15, 2017, officers from Project Kronic executed 77 search warrants across Ontario. It is a Toronto Police Service project, with assistance from 19 police services, targeting the Driftwood Crips, their associates and other criminal participants. The project has investigated homicides, shootings, kidnappings, firearms and drug trafficking.

The news conference will be available on the TOC and will be live-streamed.

Two men wanted in violent Robbery investigation, Queen Street East and Jarvis Street area, Security camera images released

The Toronto Police Service is seeking assistance with an investigation of a violent Robbery.

It is reported that:

- on Monday, May 29, 2017, a man had just left a restaurant in the Queen Street East and Jarvis Street area

- he was approached from behind by two men

- one of the men grabbed the man from behind and ripped two gold chains from his neck

- in an attempt to resist, the man fought back, at which point one of the men stabbed him several times in the abdomen

- both assailants fled

- despite his injuries, the man attempted to chase his attackers, however one of them threatened him, advising that he was armed with a firearm

- the man stopped pursuing and fell to the ground

- the suspects were last seen fleeing northbound on Jarvis Street

Police were called and arrived shortly after. The man was taken to hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.

Security camera images of the men have been released.

Personal injury collision #14/2017, Sheppard Avenue West at Magellan Drive, Now fatal collision #11/2017, Update, Woman, 20, facing two charges

On Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 10:12 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Sheppard Avenue West at Magellan Drive.

It is reported that:

- a woman, 20, was driving a 1998 Toyota Sienna, eastbound on Sheppard Avenue West, approaching Magellan Drive

- two boys, both 9, were attempting to cross Sheppard Avenue West, on the west side of Magellan Drive

- the boys were struck by the Toyota as they were crossing the road

Both boys were taken to hospital, one with non-life-threatening injuries, the other with life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, March 8, 2017, the 9-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries was pronounced.

The driver of the Toyota has been identified as Miriam Damile, 20, of Toronto. She has been charged with:

1) Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
2) Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death

She is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, July 27, 2017, 1 p.m., room 301.

5) Possession of a Firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

Mariah Conley, 17, was last seen during the evening hours on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in the Jane Street and Finch Avenue West area.

She is described as 5'5", 170 lbs., heavy build, medium-length black hair, brown eyes.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Fatal collision #27/2017 Sheppard Avenue East, west of Markham Road

On Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 4:05 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Sheppard Avenue East, west of Markham Road.

- a man, 29, was driving a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, westbound on Sheppard Avenue East, west of Markham Road

- a man, 59, was driving a 2013 Nissan Rogue, eastbound on Sheppard Avenue East, west of Markham Road

- the driver of the Hyundai attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway and collided with the eastbound Nissan

A 29-year-old woman, a passenger in the Hyundai, was taken to hospital where she gave birth. The infant was pronounced in hospital on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

Scotiabank Rat Race In Support of the United Way, Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 6:30 p.m., Road Restrictions

On Thursday, June 15, 2017, the annual Scotiabank Rat Race for the United Way will take place.

Participants will assemble at Nathan Philips Square starting at 6 p.m. The race will begin at 7:30 p.m., with lane closures in effect between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Formation Area: Nathan Philips Square

Start / Finish Line: University Avenue south of Armoury Street

-Northbound University Avenue, curb and adjacent lane, to College Street
-Northbound Queen’s Park, curb and adjacent lane, to Wellesley Street
-Northbound Queen’s Park Crescent East, curb lane, to St Joseph Street
-Eastbound St Joseph Street 50m, to U-turn
-Westbound St. Joseph Street 50m to Queens Park Crescent East
-Northbound Queen’s Park Crescent East, curb lane, to Bloor Street
-Eastbound Bloor Street, curb lane, to Bay Street
-Southbound Bay Street, curb lane, to Queen Street West

Princess Margaret Journey to Conquer Cancer Run/Walk, Sunday, June 18, 2017, Road closures

On Sunday, June 18, 2017, at 9 a.m., the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation will host the 5th annual Journey to Conquer Cancer Run/Walk.

There will be a 5km and 1km route where participants can either walk or run.

Route is as follows:
Formation - 25 Orde Street
South - University Avenue (centre and east curb southbound lanes)
Turnaround - Wellington Street
North - University Avenue (centre and west curb northbound lanes)
Turnaround - top of Queen's Park Circle
South - University Avenue (centre and east curb southbound lanes)
Dispersal - 25 Orde Street

Road closures will start at 8 a.m., and will conclude by 11:30 a.m.:

Wellesley Street, from Bay Street to Queen's Park Crescent
Queen's Park Crescent, from Bloor Street south to College Street
University Avenue, from College Street to Wellington Avenue
Orde Street, from McCaul Street to University Avenue

Yorkville Exotic Car Show, Sunday, June 18, 2017, Road closures

On Sunday, June 18, 2017, the seventh annual Yorkville Exotic Car Show will take place.

As part of this event, Bloor Street West will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 6 a.m., from Avenue Road/Queen’s Park to Bay Street. The major north/south streets, such as Avenue Road, Queen’s Park, and Bay Street will remain open.

The event will run from 12 p.m., to 5 p.m.

Road closures will start on Sunday, June 18, 2017, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

- Bloor Street West from Avenue Road to Bay Street

- Bellair Street from Bloor Street to Critchley Lane

- St. Thomas Street from Bloor Street to Sultan Street

The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions.

Man charged with assaulting Parking Enforcement Officer, Church Street and Front Street East area

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in an Assault investigation.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, a man was arrested for assaulting a Parking Enforcement Officer in the Church Street and Front Street East area.

It is alleged that:

- the officer observed a vehicle parked in a no parking zone

- she approached the vehicle and advised the male driver to move his vehicle

- he failed to follow her direction

- she issued a ticket to the vehicle

- he got out of his vehicle, followed the officer and began yelling at her

- he then spat on her

Dean Christopher Barnes, 36, of Brampton, was arrested and has been charged with:

1) Assault Peace Officer

He is scheduled to appear in court at College Park on Monday, August 14, 2017, 2 p.m., room 505.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing girl.

Ezgi Guvercin, 17, was last seen on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the Victoria Park Avenue and Dawes Road area.

She is described as 5'5", 120 lbs., with brown eyes and straight shoulder-length black hair. She was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, a black shirt, black tights and carrying a Michael Kors purse.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Project Kronic, Update, List of Charges

Sexual Assault Alert, Arrest made in 2013 Cold Case Investigation, Keele Street and Rustic Road area, Leandro De’Carvalho, 37, facing four charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to advise the public of an arrest in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at 12:45 p.m., a woman was in a park in the Keele Street and Rustic Road area

- the woman saw a man exposing himself and committing an indecent act

- as the woman attempted to leave the area, the man sexually assaulted and robbed her

Police appealed to the public for assistance in locating the wanted man. A composite sketch was released.

It is further alleged that the same man was linked by forensic evidence to an Indecent Act and Criminal Harassment investigation in Bradford, Ontario.

On Monday, June 5, 2017, Leandro De’Carvalho, 37, of Bradford, was arrested. He has been charged with:

1) Sexual Assault
2) Robbery
3) Criminal Harassment (Threatening Conduct)
4) Indecent Act

He appeared in court on Monday, June 5, 2017, at 2201 Finch Avenue West. His next court date is scheduled to be on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at 2201 Finch Avenue West, at 10 a.m.

The Waterfront 10k Run will take place on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Approximately 12,000 participants will assemble in the formation area at University Avenue and Dundas Street West, commencing at 6 a.m.

At 7:20 a.m., the run will start along the following route:

Start line: University Avenue, north of Queen Street West
Southbound University Avenue – Full Roadway
Southbound York Street – Full Roadway
Westbound Bremner Boulevard – Full Roadway
Southbound Rees Street – Full Roadway
Westbound Lake Shore Boulevard West to Bathurst Street – Westbound Lanes Only (At Fort York Blvd runners will transition to Westbound in the Eastbound lanes of Lake Shore Blvd. West - All lanes
Exception south side Eastbound CONED Access Lane from Colborne Lodge to Net Drive and from HMCS)
Westbound Lake Shore Boulevard West – All lanes
U-TURN At Palais Royale
Eastbound Lake Shore Boulevard West – Eastbound Lanes Only except south side coned access lane
Finish Line: Lake Shore Boulevard West, from Strachan Avenue to the east side of Newfoundland Road
Post-Race Area: CNE Grounds - Gore Lot

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should consider alternate methods of transportation.

Road closures (approximate times):

4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.:
University Avenue northbound and southbound from Dundas Street West to Queen Street West (full road closure)
Armoury Street from University Avenue to Chestnut Street (full road closure)
Centre Avenue from 375 Centre Avenue to Armoury Street (full road closure)

5 a.m. to 11 a.m.:
Lake Shore Boulevard West Eastbound & Westbound from Bathurst Street to Parkside Drive (full road closure)
An access lane will be provided for businesses on the south side (local traffic only)

7 a.m. to 9 a.m.:
Lake Shore Boulevard West, westbound from York Street to Bathurst Street (westbound lanes road closure)

7 a.m. to 9 a.m.:
University Avenue from Queen Street to York Street (full road closure)
York Street from University Avenue to Bremner Boulevard (full road closure)
Bremner Boulevard from York Street to Navy Wharf (full road closure)
Rees Street from Bremner Boulevard to Lake Shore Boulevard West (full road closure)

TTC service delays:

501 Queen and 504 King
Streetcars will be assisted through gaps in the run when it is safe to do so.

Delays can be expected.

Suspicious Incident Alert, Brown's Line and Burlingame Road area

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a Suspicious Incident investigation.

It is reported that:

- at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2017, a 13-year-old girl was sitting at the southwest corner of Brown's Line and Burlingame Road

- a gold Honda CRV SUV was southbound on Brown's Line, then made a u-turn and pulled up beside the 13-year-old girl

- the girl observed the male driver making gestures for her to come closer to the vehicle and then made gestures towards the passenger seat

- the girl then heard the driver say, "You can come into the car," a few times

- the girl loudly replied, saying, "No," two or three times

- the driver appeared to be surprised by her response and then drove away, northbound on Brown's Line

The male driver is described as white, 50s, white short hair, clean-shaven, wearing a T-shirt.
