Three arrests in bank and marijuana dispensary robberies, Two outstanding suspects

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of three arrests in a series of robberies at banks and marijuana dispensaries.

It is alleged that:

- on Monday, April 17, 2017, in the Hamilton area, a group robbed a marijuana dispensary

It is further alleged that:

- on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, the same group robbed another marijuana dispensary at 1625 Bayview Avenue, in Toronto

- during both robberies they were wearing disguises to conceal their identities

- they were armed with a handgun, a taser, pepper spray and took physical control of the employees

- pepper spray was sprayed into the faces of the employees and some of the customers

- they removed a quantity of marijuana and cash from the marijuana dispensaries

On Saturday, April 29, 2017, Toronto Police Service Hold Up, with the assistance of Hamilton Police Service, arrested three people who had allegedly been involved in robberies of two marijuana dispensaries. At the time of the arrest, they had allegedly been conspiring to rob a third marijuana dispensary.

Stephen Souza, 19, of Mississauga, was charged with:

1) four counts of Robbery with Firearm
2) Robbery
3) Conspiracy to Commit
4) three counts of Administer Noxious Substance
5) two counts of Possession of a Weapon
6) Possession of a Prohibited Weapon - taser
7) two counts of Fail to Comply Recognizance


Median Jackson, 23, of Brampton, was charged with:
1) two counts of Robbery with Firearm
2) Robbery
3) Conspiracy to Commit
4) four counts of Administer Noxious Substance
5) two counts of Possession of a Weapon


Jordell Nwagwu-Grant, 18, of no fixed address, was charged with:
1) two counts of Robbery with Firearm
2) Robbery
3) Conspiracy to Commit
4) three counts of Administer Noxious Substance
5) three counts of Possession of a Weapon

They all appeared in court at College Park on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, 10 a.m., room 501.

It is further alleged that:

- on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, Stephen Souza, 19, and two unknown males robbed a bank in Kitchener and another bank in Toronto on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, in the Royal York Road and Lawrence Avenue area

- in both banks the suspects wore disguises and were armed with handguns

- the bank employees were physically grabbed and terrorized by the suspects

- money was demanded and obtained

This investigation continues to identify the two outstanding suspects.

Robert Weaver, 53, was last seen on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at approximately 7 p.m., in the Ashbridges Bay Park Road and Lake Shore Boulevard East area.

He is described as 5'5", with a slim build, and a short, grey beard. He was wearing red pants.

Police are concerned for his safety.

TTC vehicles will be assisted through gaps in the run where possible and when it is safe to do so. Every attempt will be made to minimize interruption in service.

Motorists are advised to consider avoiding the areas identified as part of the route(s) and consider the road closures when planning their travels.

This event will proceed regardless of weather conditions.

Sikh Spiritual Centre Khalsa Day Parade, Sunday, May 7, 2017, 2 p.m., Road closures

On Sunday, May 7, 2017, the Sikh Spiritual Centre will be celebrating the birth of Khalsa. Event organizers are anticipating 100,000 participants, three bands, four floats, 10 vehicles, and 20 bicycles.

Road closures will be in place for all or part of the day. See all closures below:

Road closure: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (full road)
- Humberwood Boulevard, from Humberline Drive to Morning Star Drive
- Morning Star Drive, from Humberwood Boulevard to the Mississauga border

Road closure: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (full road)
- Carrier Drive, from Westmore Drive to Highway 27
- Westmore Drive, from Finch Avenue West to Albion Road

The parade will enter Toronto at approximately 2:45 p.m., as it initially starts in Mississauga at 1 p.m. The route will then travel:
- eastbound along Morning Star Drive
- northbound Humberwood Boulevard
- northbound Humberline Drive
- eastbound Finch Avenue West in the eastbound lanes
- northbound Westmore Drive
- westbound Carrier Drive, into the dispersal area of the Sikh Spiritual Centre

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should consider alternate methods of transportation.

The TTC will experience delays.

The parade will take place regardless of weather conditions.

Global Marijuana March, Saturday, May 6, 2017, Queen's Park, Road closures

The Global Marijuana March will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2017.

Approximately 5,000 participants will assemble in Queen's Park North, at 12 p.m.

At 1:30 p.m., the participants, including 10 trucks/cars/floats and bicycles, will form up on Queen's Park Crescent (just south of Bloor Street West).

At 2 p.m., the march will proceed along the following route:

Northbound: Queen's Park Crescent (northbound lanes)
Eastbound: Bloor Street West (full roadway)
Southbound: Yonge Street (full roadway)
Westbound: Wellesley Street West (full roadway)
Northbound: Queen's Park Crescent East (full roadway)

Dispersal between St. Joseph Street and Charles Street.

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should consider alternate methods of transportation.

Road closures (approximate times):

Northbound Queen's Park Crescent:
from College Street to Bloor Street West, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Southbound Queen's Park Crescent:
from Bloor Street to Hoskin Avenue, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Eastbound Bloor Street West:
from Queen's Park Crescent to Yonge Street, 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Westbound Bloor Street West:
from Yonge Street until rear escort is southbound on Yonge Street, 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

North and southbound Yonge Street:
from Wellesley Street to Bloor Street West, and from Bloor Street West to Wellesley Street, 2:15 p.m. to 4 p.m.

East and westbound Wellesley Street West:
from Yonge Street to Queen's Park Crescent East, and from Queen's Park Crescent East to Yonge Street, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Northbound Queen's Park Crescent East:
from College Street to Charles Street, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

TTC service adjustments:

- 94 Wellesley
- 5 Avenue Road
- 5 Avenue Road

He is wanted on the strength of two Warrants in the First for:

He is described as 6"1', 214 lbs., with brown hair, and blue eyes. He has a tattoo on his left wrist of "Green Cross", a tattoo on his left forearm of a Tribal design, scars on his left forearm, a tattoo on his left upper arm of a "Ying Yang," a tattoo on his right forearm of a black spider with a web, and a tattoo on his neck of a skull cross bones.

Two men arrested in Assault with a Weapon investigation, Imitation firearm seized

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest made in a series of incidents.

It is alleged that:

- on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 7 p.m., a 22-year-old man was confronted in a parking lot in the Islington Avenue and Bergamot Avenue area, by two men armed with baseball bats.

- the men assaulted the 22-year-old man

- the man tried to escape by running away

- one of the two men got into a yellow car and drove it at the man

- he was able to avoid being struck and got away

It is further alleged that:

- on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 11 p.m., the two men from the previous incident, and a third man arrived in a parking lot in the Finch Avenue West and Jayzel Drive area, in a yellow car.

- they produced baseball bats and smashed the windows of a car

- they smashed the windows of a building

- one of the men produced a gun, pointed it at a man in the building, then fired into the building, damaging the windows

It is further alleged that:

- on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at approximately 11:37 a.m., officers responded to a call for a person with a gun in the Trehorne Drive and Royal York Road area.

- some students were leaving school for lunch

- two men from the previous incidents, pulled along side the students, in a yellow car

- they pointed a firearm at the students causing them to run for safety

- officers searched the area, located the yellow car, and arrested the men

- a pellet gun was located in the car, and seized

Mohammad Khan, 22, of Brampton, is charged with:

1) Threatening Death
2) five counts of Assault with a Weapon
3) Threatening Bodily Harm
4) two counts of Weapons Dangerous
5) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
6) three counts of Fail to Comply with Probation
7) three counts of Mischief
8) Use Imitation Firearm to Commit Indictable Offence

Taha Shaikh, 18, of Toronto, is charged with:

1) six counts of Assault with a Weapon
2) Threatening Bodily Harm
3) two counts of Weapons Dangerous
4) three counts of Mischief
5) Use Imitation Firearm to Commit Indictable Offence

They both appeared in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 10 a.m., in room 206.

The Toronto Police Service wishes to remind the public that pellet guns, although legal to possess, have been used in a variety of violent crimes. In many cases, they are indistinguishable from real firearms and serious injury could result from improper use.

Sexual Assault Alert, TTC Yonge Line near Finch Station, Security images of man released

The Toronto Police would like to make the public aware of a man wanted in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at approximately 1:30 a.m., an 18-year-old woman was riding the Yonge subway line toward Finch Station

- a man sat beside her on the train and sexually assaulted her

The man is described as in his 20s to 30s, approximately 5'3", average build, with short black hair. He was wearing black jeans, a grey shirt, a black puffy ¾-length jacket, and black running shoes with white soles.

He was last seen walking away from Finch Station.

Security images of the man have been released.

Media advisory, Sunday, May 7, 2017, 11 a.m., Corner of Grosvenor Street/Queen's Park Crescent, Ontario Police Memorial Ceremony of Remembrance

On Sunday, May 7, 2017, the 18th annual Ceremony of Remembrance for Ontario's fallen police officers will take place.

All 264 names will be read aloud beginning at 10 a.m., by two recruits representing the latest graduating class of Ontario's finest from the Ontario Police College. Music from the Waterloo Regional Brass Band and songs from members of the Ontario Police Choruses will be performed prior to the arrival of the Procession of Honour.

Police Pipe Bands will lead officers from across Ontario, the United States of America and Europe in their march along Queen’s Park Crescent, arriving at the steps of the Legislature before 11 a.m., for the official start of the annual Ceremony of Remembrance.

Attending the Ceremony will be the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario; the Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario; the Honourable Dave Levac, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario; the Honourable Marie-France Lalonde, the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services of Ontario; and the families and friends of the fallen officers.

The Ontario Police Memorial Foundation (OPMF), host of the annual Memorial Service, continues with its research to fulfill its goal of ensuring that every fallen officer from Ontario will not be forgotten.

The architectural illumination of the CN Tower will be done in blue light the evening of May 6 to May 7 to honour police officers in the province of Ontario who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Ontario Police Memorial Foundation will be streaming live on Facebook and Twitter throughout the Ceremony.

Two men arrested in drug investigation, Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue West area, Face total of 20 charges, One firearm recovered along with quantities of drugs

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of two arrests in a drug investigation.

On Wednesday, May 3, 2017, officers executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrant in the Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue West area.

It is alleged that:

- 36 grams of cocaine, 150 grams of marijuana and 134 Alprazolam pills were seized

- officers located and arrested two people in relation to that search warrant

It is further alleged that:

- at the time of the arrest, the two people were in a vehicle in the Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue West area

- a fully loaded semi-automatic .45 calibre handgun was located in the vehicle

Christopher Reyes, 22, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Unlawfully Possess Schedule I Substance
2) Unlawfully Possess Schedule II Substance
3) Possess Schedule I Substance for Trafficking
4) Possess Schedule II Substance for Trafficking
5) Possess Schedule IV Substance for Trafficking
6) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
7) Possess Restricted Firearm without Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate
8) Possess Restricted Firearm Knowingly not Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate
9) Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm

Kevin Leung, 23, of Toronto, was charged with:

3) Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm
4) Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
5) Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime
6) Possess Firearm with Altered Serial Number
7) Transport Firearm Carelessly

They are scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, 10 a.m., room 306.

Personal injury collision #22/2017, Dundas Street West at Beverley Street

On Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 7:17 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Dundas Street West at Beverley Street.

It is reported that:

- a man, 40, was attempting to cross Beverley Street, on the north side of Dundas Street West

- a man, 62, was driving a Hino truck southbound on Beverley Street, approaching Dundas Street

- the man was struck by the vehicle as he attempted to cross the road

The 40-year-old man received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance locating a missing man.

Kenneth Overall, 74, was last seen on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., in the Dixie Road and Burnamthorpe Road area.

He is described as 5’5', 140 lbs., with grey receding hair. He was last seen wearing a tan jacket.

He may be driving a blue four-door Kia with licence plate CBSR 110.

Police are concerned for his safety.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a quantity of lost medication.

On Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 2 a.m., containers of Seroquel and Prozac were lost in a taxi in the Pape Avenue and Riverdale Avenue area.

The pills could be harmful/fatal if ingested, especially to children.
