Public's assistance sought with kidnapping investigation, Leslie Street and Dexter Boulevard area

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with a kidnapping investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Monday, August 8, 2016, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a man, driving a newer-model white Mustang, was stopped at a traffic light, southbound, on Leslie Street near Dexter Boulevard.

- at this time, a dark van intentionally made contact with the Mustang, causing a collision

- not realizing that the collision was intentional, the man had a brief conversation with the two men in the van

- the three agreed to drive to a nearby location, off the roadway, to assess the damage to his vehicle

- when they arrived at the location, the man exited his vehicle

- at this point he was kidnapped by the two men

- he was later released, at which point he reported the incident to police

Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision. Public Safety Alert, Islington Avenue and Bloor Street West area, Residential break-and-enters

The Toronto Police Service would like to remind the public to remain vigilant and lock their doors and windows at night.

There have been multiple Break-and-Enters to residential properties in the Islington Avenue and Bloor Street West area, during the late-evening to early-morning hours, where person(s) have accessed homes via insecure windows and doors.

Residents in the area are asked to safeguard their homes by:

- keeping an exterior light on after dark

- ensure all windows and doors are secured and locked

- alarms or video surveillance equipment is functional and on

Police are asking residents to report any suspicious vehicles or persons.

Missing man, Eglinton Avenue East and Midland Avenue area, Gordon Taylor, 53

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing man.

Gordon Taylor, 53, was last seen on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at approximately 3:30 p.m., in the Eglinton Avenue East and Midland Avenue area.

He is described as 5’5", 120 lbs., with a slim build, short grey hair, and is balding. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and grey pants.

He is developmentally delayed, and functions at a grade-school level.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Man, 38, charged for damage to Parking Enforcement vehicle

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a Mischief investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at 3:54 p.m., a man was observed damaging the driver’s-side mirror of a Toronto Police Service Parking Enforcement vehicle in the Cherry Street and Unwin Avenue area

- prior to the incident, the Parking Enforcement Officer had issued a parking infraction to the man's vehicle, for Parking in a Non-designated area

- the man approached the officer to complain and became uncivil towards him

- shortly after a conversation, the Parking Enforcement Officer left the area and parked his vehicle a short distance away, and began to patrol the area on foot

- a short time later, the man was seen by the Parking Enforcement Officer damaging the driver’s-side mirror of the Parking Enforcement vehicle

- the man fled the scene and was located a short distance away

- he was subsequently placed under arrest

Damage has been estimated at $1,000.

Abolfazl Nasri, 38, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Mischief Under $5,000

He is scheduled to appear in court at College Park on September 13, 2016.

Man wanted in shooting investigation, Ad-Ham Khamis, 23, Considered armed and dangerous

On Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at 11:50 p.m., the Toronto Police Service received a call for a shooting in the Kingston Road and Galloway Road area.

It is alleged that:

- a 31-year-old man was robbed of his gold necklace at gunpoint

- multiple shots were fired at the man during the robbery

A warrant has been issued for Ad-Ham Khamis, 23, of Toronto. He is wanted for:

1) Robbery with an offensive weapon
2) Careless Use of a Firearm
3) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
4) Possession of a Firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
5) Possession of a Loaded Restricted Firearm
6) Pointing a Firearm
7) Discharge a Restricted Firearm in a Reckless Manner
8) Possession of a Weapon

He is considered armed and dangerous. If seen, do not approach, but call 9-1-1 immediately.

Missing man, Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Avenue area, Alex Hoesmaa, 92

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Alex Hoesmaa, 92, was last seen on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at 2:30 p.m., in the Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Avenue area.

He is described as white, 5’10", 145 lbs., with grey collar-length hair and long sideburns. He was wearing a dark baseball cap, dark suit jacket, dark pants and black shoes.

Police are concerned for his safety.

"Wheels on the Danforth," Saturday, August 13, 2016, Road closures

On Saturday, August 13, 2016, the Crossroads of the Danforth Business Improvement Area will be hosting “Wheels on the Danforth."

Danforth Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic, starting at 6:30 a.m., from Byng Avenue to Warden Avenue. The major north/south streets, such as Byng Avenue and Warden Avenue, will remain open.

The event will run from 11 a.m., to 11 p.m.

Road closures will be in place on Saturday, August 13, 2016, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.:

- Danforth Avenue, from Byng Avenue to Warden Avenue

- Danforth Road, from Landry Avenue to Danforth Avenue

The TTC will be re-routing buses during the event.

This event will take place, regardless of weather conditions.

Members of the public should anticipate significant traffic in the area.

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance identifying a man wanted in a Break-and-Enter investigation.

On Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at 4:55 a.m., officers responded to a call for a Break-and-Enter in the Spadina Avenue and Sussex Avenue area.

It is reported that:

- a man entered an educational building

- he stole two LED televisions

- he concealed his face while inside the building

He is described as 30s, thin, with medium, waxy brown hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and grey hat.

Security camera images and video of him are now released.

Public Safety Alert, Marie Curtis Park area, Stolen medication

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a quantity of stolen medication.

On Monday, August 8, 2016, at 6 p.m., a purse containing a quantity of drugs was stolen in the Marie Curtis Park area.

The pills/capsules could be fatal if ingested, especially to children. The medications are Morphine 100 mg (40 tablets), Statex 50 mg (50 tablets) and Oxy-Neo 40 mg (40 tablets).

Media advisory, Saturday and Sunday, August 13/14, 2016, 12 p.m - 4 pm, Queen's Quay (between York and Rees Streets), Waterfront Educational Traffic Blitz

On Saturday, August 13, 2016 and Sunday, August 14, 2016, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Toronto Police Service will be on the waterfront to educate the public about the rules and laws on Queen's Quay, including its large pedestrian areas, the Martin Goodman Trail, the TTC right-of-way and the traffic lanes.

Queen's Quay has been redesigned to create a safe space for all road-users, including pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. The new street includes new signage and signals to keep everyone safe. As with any street, all users must follow the law and be aware and respectful of each other.

Toronto Police Service officers will be on Queen's Quay, focusing on motorists, cyclists and pedestrians not obeying the rules and committing unsafe acts. Officers will be conducting enforcement and educating the public on how to make Queen's Quay a safe place for everyone.

Emmanuel Deflorimonte, 25, was last seen at approximately 11:45 a.m., on Thursday, August 11, 2016, in the Queen Street West and Ossington Avenue area.

She is described as black with a medium complexion and medium build. She was last seen wearing a yellow sweater dress, tied around the waist with a belt.

Home invasion robbery arrest, Tenzin Sungrap, 18, faces seven charges

Toronto Police Service Hold Up has arrested a man in a home invasion robbery investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Thursday, November 12, 2015, in the Bayview Avenue and York Mills Road area, a 58-year-old man was at his recently deceased parents' home

- three people knocked on the door

- they produced handguns and forced the victim back in the residence where he was bound with duct tape

-the suspects ransacked the residence, removing valuables

On Thursday, August 11, 2016, Tenzin Sungrap, 18, of Toronto, was arrested. He has been charged with:

1) Robbery while armed with firearm
2) Forcible Confinement
3) Fail to Comply – Recognizance
4) Careless Storage of ammunition
5) Possession for the Purpose - Cocaine
6) Possession of Cocaine
7) Possession of proceeds of crime

He was scheduled to appear in court at at Old City Hall on Thursday, August, 11, 2016, 2 p.m., room 101

Man charged in Sexual Assault Investigation, Midland Avenue and Ellesmere Road area, Weijie Ma, 45, Police concerned there may be other victims

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Thursday, August 11, 2016, a 32-year-old woman was walking in the Midland Avenue and Ellesmere Road area

- a man walked towards the woman

- the man walked past the woman and sexually assaulted her

- the man then fled

On Thursday, August 11, 2016, Weijie Ma, 45, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Sexual Assault

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Friday, August 12, 2016, 10 a.m., room 412.

Police are concerned there may be other victims.

On Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at 2:16 p.m., officers from 55 Division responded to a Sudden Death call at a home in the Jones Avenue and Danforth Avenue area.

Officers located a woman, Katherine (Kathy) Plytas, 56, of Toronto, who was pronounced at the scene.

A man was arrested at the same location on Tuesday, August 9, 2016.

On Wednesday, August 10, 2016, Dan Reil, 56, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Second-Degree Murder

He appeared in court at College Park on Thursday, August 11, 2016.

41 Division "Reducing Collisions Campaign," Monday, August 15, 2016 to Sunday, August 21, 2016

The Toronto Police Service will continue with education and enforcement strategies to enhance the safety of the public, including pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, within our communities. Increased enforcement during the 41 Division Reducing Collisions Campaign will take place during the week of Monday, August 15, 2016 to Sunday, August 21, 2016.

Motorists are encouraged to obey all rules of the road and be aware of their surroundings. Motorists are also encouraged to slow down and they are encouraged to refrain from using any hand-held device that will distract them while driving.

High-accident locations and intersections will be targeted and see increased enforcement. The enforcement initiatives for community safety will also continue throughout the year.

All officers from 41 Division will pay particular attention to those motorists who run traffic lights and stop signs, commit offences at pedestrian crossovers and crosswalks and include turning offences, unsafe lane changes and speeding offences. Officers will also be concentrating on distracted driving and motorists using hand-held devices.
