Media advisory, Friday, October 16, 2015, 11 a.m., Police headquarters, lobby, Stationary Bicycle Race for United Way

On Friday, October 16, 2015, at 11 a.m., in the lobby of police headquarters, members of the Toronto Police Service will be competing in a stationary bicycle race to raise money for the United Way Toronto and York Region. Teams of six will be competing to accumulate the most kilometres as well as collect the most money for the United Way.

The event is one of many during the fall fundraising campaign. Last year, Toronto Police Service members raised $500,000 for the United Way, and have raised over $5 million the past 10 years.

Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Sunday, October 18, 2015, Road closures

On Sunday, October 18, 2015, the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Half marathon, and 5 Kilometre Walk/Run will be take place.

The marathon will have a running distance of 42.2 kilometres, while the half marathon is a distance of 21.1 kilometres. Both of these races will start at 8:45 a.m., while the 5 kilometre race will begin at 8 a.m.

The event organizers are anticipating 20,000 participants for all events.

Various road closures will be in effect for this event, starting Saturday, October 17, 2015, to accommodate the pre-event set-up for the start line and finish line areas.

Finish line area road closures will start on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 12 p.m. until Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 8 p.m. at :
- Bay Street from Queen Street West to Dundas Street West
- Bay Street from Dundas Street West to Lake Shore Boulevard
plus smaller side streets of Hagerman Street, Elizabeth Street, Albert Street, and James Street

Start line area road closure will start on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 4 a.m., to 11 a.m. at:
-University Avenue from Dundas Street West to King Street West plus smaller side streets of Armoury Street and Chestnut Street

Lake Shore Boulevard road closures on Sunday, October 18, 2015:
-Lake Shore Boulevard closures will start at 5 a.m., the Bathurst Street to Windermere Avenue, until approximately 1 p.m.

The remainder of the route along Lake Shore Boulevard, from Bathurst Street to the Don Roadway, will close at 6 a.m., until 1 p.m. and Lake Shore Boulevard., from Carlaw Avenue to Woodbine Avenue will close at 8 a.m., until 3:30 p.m.

The following streets will be closed from 6 a.m., until 3:30 p.m.:
- Front Street from Church Street to Jarvis Street
- Wellington Street from Church Street to Bay Street
- Church Street from the Esplanade to Front Street East
- Queen Street from Simcoe Street to Yonge Street
- Richmond Street from Simcoe Street to Yonge Street
- Adelaide Street from Simcoe Street to Yonge Street

The following streets will be closed from 7 a.m., until 1:30 p.m.:
- Queens Quay West from Bay Street To Parliament Street
- Cherry Street from Lake Shore Boulevard to Mill Street
- Bayview Avenue from Lower River Street to River Street
- Old Eastern Avenue from Eastern Avenue to Lawren Harris Square
- Lawren Harris Square from Old Eastern Avenue to Bayview Avenue

The following streets will be closed from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.:
- Queen Street East from Woodbine Avenue to Beech Avenue
- Eastern Avenue and Front Street East from Carlaw Avenue to Jarvis Street

The following streets will be closed from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.:
- University Avenue from Dundas Street West to College Street
- Queens Park Crescent (including west & east) from College Street to Bloor Street West
- Bloor Street West from Bay Street to Bathurst Street
- Bathurst Street from Bloor Street to Lake Shore Boulevard West
- Fort York Boulevard from Bathurst Street to Lake Shore Boulevard West

Fatal collision #52/2015, Queen Street East at Berkeley Street

On Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at 5:51 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Queen Street East at Berkeley Street.

It is reported that:

− a 34-year-old man was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry, westbound on Queen Street East, approaching Berkeley Street

− a 93-year-old man was operating a personal mobility scooter, southbound, on the west sidewalk of Berkeley Street

− as the man operating the scooter entered Queen Street West, he was struck by the westbound Toyota Camry

The 93-year-old man was taken to hospital. On Thursday, October 15, 2015, the man succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Missing man, McCowan Road and Finch Avenue East, Fitzroy Wallace, 73

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Fitzroy Wallace, 73, was last seen on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at approximately 2 p.m., in the McCowan Road and Finch Avenue East area inside Woodside Square Mall.

He is described as black, thin build, 5'7", 145 lbs., receding black hair and grey beard. He was last seen wearing a grey shirt and grey pants and possibly has a blue jacket on.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Arrest in apartment Break-and-Enter investigation, Thiveeharan Indralingam, 25, faces six charges, Police believe there may be other victims

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in an apartment Break-and-Enter investigation.

On Friday, August 28, 2015, police responded to a call about a man breaking into an apartment in the Sheppard Ave East and Pharmacy Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- a man used a universal key to gain entry

- once inside, he stole a number of personal cheques

- he then attempted to cash the cheques

On Tuesday, September 22, 2015, police responded to a call for a man breaking into an apartment in the Sheppard Ave East and Pharmacy Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- he used a universal key to gain entry

- once inside, he stole a man’s watch

On Wednesday, October 14, 2015, 42 Division Major Crime Unit arrested Thiveeharan Indralingam, 25, of Toronto.

He is charged with:

1) Break-and-Enter
2) two counts of Disobey a Court Order
3) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
4) Use a Forged Document
5) Fraud Under $5000

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Thursday, October 15, 2015, 2 p.m., courtroom 412.

Police believe there may be other victims.

Sexual Assault Alert, McCowan Road and Brimorton Drive area

The Toronto Police Service would like to advise the public of a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at approximately 11:45 p.m., a 25–year-old woman was walking in the McCowan Road and Brimorton Drive area

- an unknown man approached the woman from behind

- the unknown man sexually assaulted the woman

- the unknown man then fled the location in a westerly direction

The man is described as brown, 18-25, 5'6", and was last seen wearing a hooded shirt, sweatpants, black flip-flops and was seen carrying a basketball.

Police request assistance identifying man wanted in commercial Break-and-Enter investigation, Midland Avenue/Finch Avenue East, and Kennedy Road/Steeles Avenue East areas

The Toronto Police Service requests the public's assistance identifying a man wanted in a series of commercial Break-and-Enters.

Several occurrences have been reported to police of restaurants broken into during the overnight hours, from August to October, in the Midland Avenue/Finch Avenue East, and Kennedy Road/Steeles Avenue East areas.

The suspect is described as a white man, 5’9”, wearing a baseball cap and a jacket with reflective stripes.

Security camera images have now been released.

Man arrested in Child Pornography investigation, Wendell Francis, 31, faces two charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a child pornography investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at approximately 3 p.m., a man was accessing child pornography, using a public computer at a public library

Following an investigation, Wendell Francis, 31, of Toronto, was arrested on Thursday, October 15, 2015. He is charged with:

1) Access Child Pornography
2) Possession of Child Pornography

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, October 15, 2015, 2 p.m., courtroom 306.

Sexual Assault Alert, Sabakunasingam Eliyathamby, 66, charged with two 1995 sexual assaults, Police believe there may be other victims

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a historic Sexual Assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- in 1995, on two separate occasions, a man sexually assaulted a then-eight-year-old girl he was babysitting

On Friday, October 16, 2015, Sabakunasingam Eliyathamby, 66, of Toronto, surrendered to police. He is charged with:

1) two counts of Sexual Interference
2) two counts of Sexual Assault

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Ave East, on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, courtroom 407.

Police believe there may be other victims.

Public Safety Alert, Stolen bodily fluids, Weston Road and Black Creek Drive

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a quantity of bodily fluid samples that have been stolen.

On Friday, October 16, 2015, at 1 p.m., a Public Health Laboratories container of bodily fluids was stolen in the Weston Road and Black Creek Drive area.

The contents are considered to be a biological hazard.

A photograph of the package is now released.

If the package is located, do not open, call 9-1-1 immediately

Medical incident, Dundas Street East and Church Street area

On Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 4:15 a.m., the Toronto Police Service received a medical call in the Dundas Street East and Church Street area.

Investigators are concerned for the safety and wellbeing of a woman who may be in need of medical attention.

She is identified as Jesson Stafford, 32, and described as 5’5”, 122 lbs., with light-brown hair, usually tied back. She was last seen wearing grey jeans, grey hoodie sweatshirt, and a grey T-shirt, and carrying a grey knapsack.

Homicide #40/2015, Dixon Road and Carlingview Drive area

On Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 8:41 p.m., police were called to the Dixon Road and Carlingview Drive area for a sound of gunshots call.

Once on scene, police located two men suffering from obvious trauma. One was pronounced at the scene and the other was taken to hospital.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Monday, October 19, 2015.

The other man is in critical condition in hospital.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at approximately 11 p.m., Petar Tasic, 28, was last seen in the Burnhamthorpe Road and Renforth Drive area.

He is described as white, 6’2", 160 lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes. He has a short beard and moustache and wears glasses. He may be wearing jeans, black boots and a grey pea coat.

Police are concerned for his safety.
