The preparation for the 2015 Parapan American Games road events continues today. There will be closures that will affect the area around High Park that will include:
Full road closures within High Park of Colborne Lodge Drive, Centre Road, West Road, Spring Road and High Park Boulevard from 12 a.m. on Friday August 7, 2015 to 6 p.m. on Saturday August 8, 2015.
Additional road closures will take place on Friday August 7, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to allow athletes to familiarize themselves with the cycling road race course, including:
- Lake Shore Boulevard will be closed in both directions from Colborne Lodge Drive to Strachan Avenue.
- Bloor Street from Ellis Park Road to Parkside Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
- The Queensway from Claude Drive to Ellis Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
- Ellis Avenue and Ellis Park Road will be closed.
During the closure period Lake Shore Boulevard, from Colborne Lodge Drive to Net Drive, will remain open to local traffic only to provide access for businesses and residents. Access to Ontario Place will also be maintained.
On Saturday, August 8, 2015, the closures highlighted above for August 7, 2015 will be in place from 1 a.m. until 6 p.m. to accommodate the men's and women's cycling road races which will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
There will also be cycling detours starting Saturday August 8, 2015 at 1 a.m. until Sunday August 9, 2015 at 2 p.m.. Some sections of the Martin Goodman Trail will be closed to bicycle traffic. Signage is in place along the 2.85-kilometre detour. Detour routes include:
• Cyclists travelling east must exit the trail at British Columbia Road/Lake Shore Boulevard and then take the detour route north on British Columbia Road, east on Saskatchewan Road, south on Princes' Boulevard and following Prince Edward Island Crescent to Ontario Drive, south to Lake Shore Blvd and traveling east to rejoin the Martin Goodman Trail at New Brunswick Way.
• Cyclists traveling west must exit the trail at Remembrance Drive opposite New Brunswick Way, then travel west on Lake Shore Boulevard, north on Ontario Drive and immediately west onto Prince Edward Island Crescent, north on Princes' Boulevard to Saskatchewan Road, proceeding west on British Columbia Road to rejoin the Martin Goodman Trail at Marilyn Bell Park.
Tonight will also mark the opening ceremony for the 2015 Parapan American Games. The ceremony will take place at the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletics Stadium (YOR) located at York University, 4700 Keele Street, Toronto. The opening ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.
The Toronto Police would like to advise drivers of expected delays on the Don Valley Parkway, northbound, and Highway 404 starting at approximately 3 p.m. There will be a large number of buses utilizing the HOV lanes to transport athletes from the Athlete’s Village to the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletics Stadium. Drivers are asked to plan ahead for these delays by planning an alternative route, utilizing transit or re-timing their commute to avoid delays.
