On Saturday, June 6, 2015, Toronto Police officers from 42 Division, along with the assistance of numerous volunteers will host the 7th annual Malvern Bike Race.
Starting at 9:30 a.m., a series of bicycle road races will take place on Brenyon Way between Sewells Road and Sheppard Avenue East. Approximately 135 youth from the Toronto area will be competing for the George Terry Cup. With the generous support of sponsors such as the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and ProAction Cops & Kids, each youth participating will receive a brand new bicycle and helmet to use during the race, which will also be theirs to keep after the event.
ProAction Cops & Kids is a charitable organization which funds police-led programs for youth.
This event provides youth between the ages of 14 and 17 with the opportunity to experience the speed and thrill of an organized bicycle road race that is professionally timed. This is also an opportunity for police officers to interact with local youth on a one-to-one level in a fun and informal setting.
There will be road closures and lane restrictions in the area of the race from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the day of the event. However, there will be numerous officers staffing the event who will assist residents in getting to and from their homes.
Anyone seeking further information regarding this event is asked to contact Staff Sergeant Dave Rydzik at 416-808-4254 or Constable Diana Joness at 416-808-4200.
