$

0
The goal of Just Give is to change the way in which each of us thinks about giving on a daily basis. This is not about money or fundraising. This is about doing something as simple as holding open a door or giving a stranger a smile.

The Toronto Police Service and Hamilton Police Service have accepted the challenge to Cram-a-Cruiser during the Just Give awareness campaign with a mission to inspire everyone to give.

Police officers from the two Services will collect food donations from area schools to give back to the communities they serve.

Starting at 9 a.m., Toronto Police Service and Hamilton Police Service officers will start the day at their respective headquarters.

They will compete against each other to collect and deliver the most food donations and deliver them before 2 p.m., to the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto and Hamilton Food Share.

When:
Wednesday, June 3, 2015

Start time:
9 a.m.

Starting line:
Police cruisers start from police headquarters in each city.

Who:
Toronto Police Service v. Hamilton Police Service
Toronto schools v. Hamilton schools

What:
1) Police travel to schools in Toronto that can Cram-a-Cruiser
2) At each school the students get to cram the cruiser as fast as they can
3) Pose for a photo
4) Upload to Twitter using #JUSTGIVE
5) Police must drop off all food for the weigh-in before 2 p.m.
6) Winner will be announced

Where:
Any school in Toronto or Hamilton can still get involved.

How:
It's not too late. If your school can Cram-a-Cruise on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, send an email before 3 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015 to events@mpcf.ca and say we can Cram-a-Cruiser!

Your school will be added to the Cram-a-Cruiser route. The police will have a few days to plan the perfect route to collect all of the food and drop off before the weigh-in at 2 p.m.

FAQ:
How much food will it take to Cram-a-Cruiser?
Approximately 500 pieces of food.

How do I get involved if I’m a company or a business?
Easy. Pinball Clemons is asking everyone in Toronto to join him along with Mayor John Tory at noon on June 3, 2015, with a can of food.

We will have a few police cruisers on standby, along with one of the Just Give sponsors, Purolator, to transport extra food collected to help Toronto become the Ultimate Giving City.

As part of its commitment to helping alleviate hunger in the communities where it operates, Purolator works closely with its employees, customers, partners, Canadians and food banks across Canada to collect donations and help raise awareness about the issue of hunger in Canada.

Since its inception in 2003, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program has helped deliver the equivalent of more than 7.5 million pounds of food to food banks across Canada.

You can help raise awareness about hunger in Canada by using #TackleHunger on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

In the spirit of the Just Give campaign, and inspiring not only the community, Pinball Clemons asked Mayor John Tory to join him in this second challenge. He has accepted the challenge.

On Wednesday, June 3, 2015, bring a canned food item to City Hall for the Cram-a-Cruiser challenge.

While you are at City Hall we want to take a few moments to take part in Operation Hugs, the largest human hug in Toronto.

At 12 p.m., everyone in attendance will join arms and wrap a big hug around City Hall with Pinball Clemons and Mayor John Tory.

The hug around City Hall was inspired by Meagan's Hug, which happens every Mother’s Day weekend, following the 5 km Meagan's Walk where thousands of people join together to hug SickKids Hospital.

Meagan's Hug brings us together as a compassionate community in support of children who need our loving embrace. This reminds us of the great gift of offering our hearts, minds, talents and time to others in the community.

We want the world to see that Toronto is a city with a big heart! Let's show them just how big it is.

How do you get started?
Spread the word – share your stories and acts of kindness. Please help spread awareness by using #JUSTGIVE

To learn more about all of the activities happening during the Just Give campaign, go to www.justgive.ca and take the pledge or volunteer today!

Watch the launch from Wednesday, May 27, 2015, with Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders and Michael "Pinball" Clemons available on YouTube.
