Personal injury collision #19/2015, Roxborough Street East at Wrentham Place

On Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 8:23 a.m., police responded to a personal injury collision at Roxborough Street East at Wrentham Place.

It is reported that:

− a 43-year-old woman was driving a 2005 Toyota 4Runner, eastbound on Roxborough Street East

− a 75-year-old man was riding a bicycle northbound on Wrentham Place

− the cyclist entered the intersection and was struck by the vehicle

The cyclist was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police request assistance with Fraud investigation, Security camera image of suspect released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying a female suspect in a Fraud investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, April 4, 2015, between 3 a.m. and 4 p.m., a woman attended multiple ATMs in the Toronto area

- the woman used a stolen debit card and withdrew money from the victim's account

The woman is described as 30-35, large build, with long blonde hair.

Young boy located at 4:37 a.m. on the street by Parking Enforcement Officer

On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, Parking Enforcement Officer Katherine Bingham was working night shift in 12 Division.

At 4:37 a.m., she was working general patrol on Trethwey Drive, east of Black Creek Drive, when she found a young boy wandering in the middle of the road.

She removed the boy from the road and called for a police unit to attend. The boy was unable to communicate with officers and was unable to say where he lived.

Several police officers arrived, and a door-to-door canvass of the area was conducted.

At 5:20 a.m., the boy was reunited with his mother.

Police request assistance with shooting investigation, Bellamy Road and Lawrence Avenue East area

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with a shooting investigation.

On Wednesday May 20, 2015, at 2 a.m., police received a call for a shooting in the Bellamy Road and Lawrence Avenue East area.

It is reported that:

- a man approached a group of people who were having a cigarette outside a local bar

- an argument ensued and quickly escalated when the man pulled out a gun

- the man shot the victim in the leg and ran southbound on Bellamy Road

- the victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

The man is described as black, approximately 19, 5'7", with hair in short braids. He was wearing a black hooded sweater and black pants. He was armed with a handgun and should be considered dangerous.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the shooting, or can provide any information in relation to it.

Homicide #16/2015, Update, Identity of victim and cause of death released

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public on the investigation into Homicide #16/2015.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at approximately 1:30 a.m., police responded to the sound of gunshots in the Danforth Avenue and Coxwell Avenue area.

See previous release.

The deceased has been identified as Abdiweli Mohamed Yusuf, 21, of Toronto.

A post-mortem investigation was conducted. The cause of death was a gunshot wound.

Investigators would like to thank the numerous people who have called with information, however there are still a number of witnesses with whom police would like to speak.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an ongoing homicide investigation.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at 10:31 p.m., police responded to a call for a shooting in the Campbell Avenue and Paton Road area.

It was reported that:

- police arrived and located a crime scene

- a man had been taken to hospital by friends

- the man was pronounced at hospital

The man has been identified as Marlon Lennox Mason, 33.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today.

Homicide detectives are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to contact police.

Homicide #17/2015, Dupont Street and Perth Avenue

On Sunday, May 17, 2015, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Toronto Police Service and Toronto Fire Services responded to a fire at a home in the Dupont Street and Perth Avenue area.

As a result of the investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal's office and from witness accounts of what transpired, Toronto Police Homicide was notified.

The identity of the victim is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.

Homicide detectives are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to contact police.

Personal injury collision #20/2015, Annette Street and High Park Avenue, Good Samaritan sought

On Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at 2:52 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Annette Street and High Park Avenue.

It is reported that:

− a 30-year-old woman was attempting to cross Annette Street at High Park Avenue

− a 36-year-old man was driving a 2010 Ford Econoline van, northbound on High Park Avenue, attempting to make a left turn to westbound Annette Street

− the pedestrian was struck by the van as it made the left turn

The woman received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police are seeking a Good Samaritan who assisted the pedestrian immediately after the collision by offering first aid.

The 5th Annual "Reach Out For The Homeless" Program will take place on Friday, May 22, 2015, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Moss Park.

In previous years between 230-250 sandwiches have been provided to the homeless people in and around the Moss Park area. This year the team has also partnered with Hero Burgers.

The youth volunteers will participate in a park clean-up initiative and will have the opportunity to test their endurance in completing a portion of the Police PREP Test (Shuttle Run) .

On Sunday, May 24, 2015, the Aga Khan Foundation Canada will hold their 31st annual World Partnership Walk. Registration and announcements will take place on David Pecaut Square, at Metro Hall, prior to the event.

The VIPs and dignitaries will proceed to King Street West and start the walk at 11:15 a.m. proceeding eastbound on King Street West in the curb lane and then southbound on Simcoe Street. The corporate teams will join the walk on Wellington Street West, at Simcoe Street, and the event will proceed along the route together.

Road closures:

Wellington Street West (John Street to University Avenue)
10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

- southbound Queen's Park Crescent West (Hoskin Avenue to College Street)
10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

- northbound Queen's Park Crescent East (College Street to Wellesley Street)

Man charged in Harassment investigation, Steven Ly, 30, Police believe there may be more victims

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a Harassment investigation.

It is alleged that:

- a man obtained a video, of an intimate nature, of the victim by capturing it when the victim and the man were on a video chat

- the man posted the intimate video to a pornographic website

- the man also posted a number of other videos to the pornographic website

On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at 9:08 a.m., Steven Ly, 30, of Toronto, was arrested. He was charged with:

1) Make Available Intimate Image Without Consent

He appeared in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.

Police believe there may be other victims.

Arrests in Robbery/Distraction Thefts investigation, Three men each facing 15 charges, Police believe there may be more victims

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of recent arrests in a series of Robbery/Distraction Thefts near financial institutions.

It is alleged that:

- during the past four months, three men attended financial institutions in the GTA

- the men followed people who had withdrawn money from the bank

- one of the men sprays mustard on the person

- another man makes the person aware of the mustard and the third man uses the ruse of helping the victim

- the men then remove the person's property and flee the area

- in other incidents, the suspects distract people by throwing $5 bills on the ground, allowing them to collect the bills while other suspects steals money from them

On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, members of the 42 Division Major Crime Unit, with assistance from 51 Division, 52 Division, York Regional Police and Peel Regional Police, identified three men as suspects.

It is further alleged that:

- on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, the men attended a financial institution in the Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East area

- the men followed an older man from the bank

- the men sprayed his jacket with mustard

- the men removed a large sum of money while pretending to help the older man

Juan Jamie Loaiza Eguren, 67, of Chile, was arrested and charged with:
1) 10 counts of Robbery
2) four counts of Mischief
3) Theft Over

Carlos Embry Ibarra, 64, of Chile, was arrested and charged with:
1) 10 counts of Robbery
2) four counts of Mischief
3) Theft Over

Angel Moforte Mardones, 69, of Chile, was arrested and charged with:
1) 10 counts of Robbery
2) four counts of Mischief
3) Theft Over

They appeared in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Thursday May 21, 2015, room 412.

Police believe there may be other victims.

The Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes Unit is investigating a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Friday, October 11, 2013, a man broke into a home in the Church Street and Jane Street area

- once inside, the man sexually assaulted the victim

A composite sketch of the man has been released.

Investigators believe the suspect is white, 20-30, with an acne/pockmarked complexion.

Jose Rocha, 51, was last seen on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at approximately 7:45 a.m., near Dundas Street West and Ossington Avenue.

He is described as 5'8", 180 lbs., average build, short hair, and unshaven.

Police are concerned for his safety.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with an ongoing Sexual Assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, a 23-year-old woman was on a GO Transit bus traveling from Square One to Union Station

- a man sat very close to the woman and sexually assaulted her

The man is described as brown, average build, short black hair, black stubble on his cheeks, and wore glasses. He was wearing a black jacket with fur trim on the collar, light-coloured pants, black shoes, and was carrying a black backpack.
