Public assistance sought identifying woman in ID fraud investigation, Photograph now available

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying a woman wanted for several frauds committed in the Toronto area.

It is alleged that:

- during the month of October, a woman assumed several identities using fake identification

- the woman attended several banks and made substantial withdrawals, purporting to be the actual client

A photograph is now available.

If she is located, do not approach, but call 9-1-1.

Homicide #57/2014, Candace Baran, 41, Dean Nixon, 39, arrested

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in Homicide #57/2014.

It is alleged that:

- on Monday, December 15, 2014, at approximately 1 a.m., police responded to a medical call at a home in the Dufferin Street/Beaconsfield Avenue area

- police located an unconscious 41-year-old woman in her home

- she was taken to hospital

Police arrested Dean Nixon, 39, of Toronto. He was charged with:

1) Aggravated Assault

On Sunday, December 21, 2014, the woman was removed from life-support.

On Monday, December 22, 2014, a post-mortem examination determined the cause of death to be the result of complications of head injury.

On Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 7 a.m., the man turned himself in to police. He is now charged with:

1) Second Degree murder

He is scheduled to appear in court, at Old City Hall, on Tuesday, December 23, 2014.

The woman has been identified as Candace Baran, 41, of Toronto.

On Monday, December 22, 2014, at approximately 4 a.m., officers responded to a call for an Unknown Trouble in the Yonge Street and Finch Avenue area.

She was located on Monday, December 22, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.

Man wanted in Robbery investigation, Elm Street and Yonge Street area, Three security camera images of suspect released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying a man wanted for Robbery.

On Monday, December 22, 2014, a man was standing in the Elm Street and Yonge Street area.

It is reported that:

- he approached another man, 50, as he walked into a building

- he attempted to take a quantity of money from the 50-year-old man

- he was fought off by the 50-year-old man

- he fled the scene, last seen near Victoria Street and Gould Street

He is described as black, 30-40, short black hair, medium build, wearing a dark shirt, jeans and runners.

Security camera images of him are now released.

It is reported that:

- on Monday, December 22, 2014, some time between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., an aluminum wheelchair ramp was stolen from the front of a house in the Lake Shore Boulevard West/Kipling Avenue area

Man wanted in Robbery investigation, Elm Street and Yonge Street area, Update, Man arrested, faces three charges, Public assistance sought identifying woman who took victim's cell phone

On Tuesday, December 23, 2014, the Toronto Police Service requested the public's assistance identifying a man wanted for Robbery.

On Monday, December 22, 2014, a man was standing in the Elm Street and Yonge Street area.

On Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at approximately 1 a.m., Joel Brown, 44, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Robbery
2) two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, December 24, 2014, 10 a.m., room 101.

Investigators are also seeking the public’s assistance identifying a woman.

It is reported that:

- during the robbery, the woman walked into the middle of Elm Street, picked up the victim’s cell phone, and left

She is described as non-white, with a long, black ponytail. She was wearing a black hat, dark 3/4-length winter coat with a fur trim, black winter boots with tassels and red soles, carrying a black purse. She was seen getting out of a dark-blue Honda CRV which was parked on the south side of Elm Street, with a trailer hitch.

A security camera image of the woman has been released.

The Toronto Police Service would like to thank a Good Samaritan who collected the money strewn from the robbery and returned it to the victim.

On Saturday, December 20, 2014, Mani Mitchel, 15, was last seen in the Lake Shore Boulevard West and Twenty-Ninth Street area.

He is described as black, 5'9", 150 lbs., thin build, full black afro.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Public assistance sought with theft of woman's wheelchair ramp, Update, Picture of a similar ramp released

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance with a theft investigation.

The ramp is made out of aluminum and folds up to 2'0" wide, a briefcase-like style. It has a sticker containing the name of the drugstore from which it was leased.

Pictures of a similar ramp are now released.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing man.

Pavel Lerner, 37, was last seen on Tuesday, December 17, 2014, leaving his residence in the Islington Avenue and Irwin Road area.

He is described as white, approximately 5'11", 190 lbs. He has brown eyes and short black hair.

He has been diagnosed with various mental-health issues. He has not been taking his medication. Police are concerned for his safety.

Elliada Araujo, 31, was last seen on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at approximately 11 a.m., in the Dundas Street West and Augusta Avenue area.

She is described as white, 5'4", medium build, straight brown hair, and wearing glasses. She was last seen wearing a navy-blue jacket and blue jeans.

Police are concerned for her safety.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing woman and her infant daughter.

Alyssa Charlres, 18, and her four-month-old daughter were last seen on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at approximately 4:40 p.m., in the Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue West area.

She is described as black 5'6", 175 lbs., dark-brown hair worn in a bun. Her daughter was wearing a blue top with grey sequins, and grey tights.

Alyssa Charles was carrying a pink diaper bag and had her daughter in a pink stroller with a Minnie Mouse blanket.

Police are concerned for their safety.

Man arrested in Aggravated Assault investigation

The Toronto Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance with the arrest of a man in an aggravated assault investigation.

On Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at approximately 10:45 p.m., police received a call to attend the Dundas Street West and Augusta Avenue area for an assault.

It is alleged that

- a man assaulted another man, and fled the area

- the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries

Arash Suri, 29, of Toronto, has been arrested and charged with:

1) Aggravated Assault

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, December 24, 2014.
