On Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at approximately 11:30 a.m., police responded to a personal injury collision at Steeles Avenue East/Middlefield Road.
It is reported that:
- a 40-year-old man was driving a 2010 Hino truck eastbound on Steeles Avenue East, approaching Middlefield Road
- a 36-year-old man, operating a TTC bus, was stopped westbound on Steeles Avenue East, servicing a TTC stop east of Middlefield Road, on the north side of Steeles Avenue East
- the truck crossed into the westbound lanes, mounted the curb, struck a hydro pole, struck the right-front corner of the bus where a 52-year-old woman was boarding, and struck a 43-year-old woman who had exited the bus
- the 52-year-old woman was pronounced on scene
- the 43-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries
- in total, 12 people were taken to a number of hospitals with injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to life-threatening
