Man arrested for three Retail Robberies, Joseph Okute, 26

The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad would like to make the public aware of a man arrested in relation to three retail robberies that occurred in the Bloor Street West and Delaware Avenue area and the Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue area.


It is alleged that:

- on Saturday, August 29, 2020, three retail store robberies were committed in Toronto

- in each, a lone man entered a premise while concealing his identity with a mask

- the man gave a note to the employees that demanded money and indicated that he was armed with a gun

- at the first two locations, the man fled the scenes empty-handed

- at the third location, the man took a quantity of cash before fleeing the scene


Hold Up Squad investigators were able to identify a man.

On Monday, August 31, 2020, officers from 51 Division Community Response Unit located a man and arrested him.

It is further alleged that:

- evidence related to the crime was seized during the arrest


Joseph Okute, 26, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. three counts of Robbery
2. three counts of Disguise with Intent

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, 10 a.m., room 101.

Man arrested for Home Invasion and Street Robbery, Steeles Avenue West and Bathurst Street area, Devontay Antonio Borges, 18

The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad would like to make the public aware of a man arrested in relation to a home invasion and a street robbery in the Steeles Avenue West and Bathurst Street area.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, July 12, 2020, a home invasion and a street robbery were committed in Toronto

- a man gained access to a house while wearing a white Halloween mask and carrying a black handgun

- the man entered the victim’s bedroom and threatened him with the gun

- the man took the victim’s car keys and wallet before exiting the house

- as the man was walking away from the house, he approached another victim who was walking nearby

- the man pointed the gun at the victim and demanded his phone and wallet

- the man took the victim’s phone and then fled the area on foot


Hold Up Squad investigators were able to determine the identity of a man. On Monday, August 31, 2020, officers from 32/33 Division Major Crime Unit located the man and took him into custody.


It is further alleged that:

- at the time of arrest, the man was in possession of a large quantity of cocaine



Devontay Antonio Borges, 18, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. two counts of Robbery with a Firearm
2. two counts of Disguise with Intent
3. two counts of Threaten Death
4. Break & Enter Commit
5. Forcible Confinement
6. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
7. Possession of Proceeds of Crime

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at 10 a.m., room 103.

Missing Man, Gerrard Street East and Sherbourne Street Tyler-Michel Vaughan, 20

The Toronto Police Service is requesting public assistance in locating a missing male.

Tyler-Michel Vaughan was last on Saturday, August 29, 2020 in the area of Gerrard Street East and Sherbourne Street area.

He is described as a 5’9”, 141 lbs., shoulder-length brown hair in a bun, and has a tattoo of Chinese writing on his right forearm.

He was last known to be wearing a light grey hoodie with “Canada” in white lettering across the front, black shorts with red stripes, and black Nike shoes with a white Nike logo.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Public Appeal for Robbery with a Weapon and Aggravated Assault Investigation, Hidden Trail and Carriage Lane area

The Toronto Police Service requests the public's assistance identifying a suspect as part of a robbery investigation.

On Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at 8:57 p.m., officers attended a call in the Hidden Trail and Carriage Lane area.

It is reported that:

- a man was riding his bicycle in the area

- another man randomly attacked the victim

- the suspect stabbed the man with a sharp object and called him a "demon"

- the suspect then fled the area on the man's bicycle

- the man was transported to hospital with minor injuries

The suspect is described as male, 5'8", slim build, curly hair, and was wearing a full 'custom Halloween' mask. He was wearing a light brown khaki sweater and dark jeans.

An image of the bike has been released.

Divisional officers have been made aware and will continue to patrol across the area.

Sexual Assault Alert, Suspect sought in Sexual Assault Investigation, Bloor Street West and Dufferin Street area, Image Released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in identifying a suspect in a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Friday, January 31, 2020, a woman in her 20s was in the area of Bloor Street West and Dufferin Street area.

- a man approached the woman and sexually assaulted her

- on Saturday, February 1, 2020, the same woman was in the Bloor Street West and Dufferin area, and was sexually assaulted again by the same man

The suspect is described as male, white, approximately 50 to 60 years-old, 5'8" to 5'10", medium build, with black and grey wavy hair.

Chamkaur Dhaliwal, 49, was last seen on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at approximately 10:30 a.m., in the Queen Street West and Ossington Avenuearea.

He is described as 6'0”, 210 lbs., with brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a yellow shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes.

Police seek public's assistance in a Fraud Investigation, Onis Belleus, 52

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an on-going fraud investigation.

It is alleged that:

During November 2019, the Toronto Police Service Financial Crime Unit were made aware of a person altering:

- Canadian passports
- University Degrees
- medical and legal documents
- government issued documentation
- financial documentation

- a man was operating under the following names:

- Synergy Capital
- Onyx Platinum Developments
- Onyx Medical Supplies
- Joseph Bell
- Onyx Belleus

- the man was using forged documentation to support claims of representing legitimate businesses in order to make high value purchases and sales of medical equipment

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, members of the Financial Crimes Unit executed a warrant at a residence.

Onis Belleus, 52, of Toronto was arrested. He has been charged with:

1. four counts of Possession of Forged Passport
2. Possession of Counterfeit Mark
3. eight counts of Forgery
4. Personation
5. Fraud Over
6. Possess Instrument to Commit Forgery

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

Police are seeking the public's assistance with this investigation, and would like to speak to anyone who has any information.

Investigators believe that there may be more victims.

On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, police responded to the sound of gunshots at 4:57 a.m., in the Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue West area.

It is reported:

- a man was located in a vehicle with with life-threatening injuries

- the man was transported to hospital and later pronounced deceased

Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting to contact police.

It is alleged that:

- the suspect attended a retail location in the Bloor Street West and Lansdowne Avenue area

- he approached a woman in her 30s and put an unknown substance on her clothing

- he then told the victim she had something on her clothing and offered assistance in removing the substance

On Sunday, August 30, 2020, Oscar Sotelo Mendoza, 37, of Toronto was arrested. He is charged with:

1. Sexual Assault
2. Assault
3. Fail To Comply

He was scheduled to appear at court on Monday, August 31, 2020, at Old City Hall, at 10 a.m., in room 101.

The investigation remains ongoing and officers continue to urge anyone who has any information to contact police.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a quantity of stolen medication.

On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at 4:15 a.m., a quantity of drugs were stolen from a pharmacy in the Keele Street and Bloor Street West area.

The following drugs were taken:

Tylenol 3
Oxycodone
Diazepam
Methadone
Codeine
Morphine
Suboxone
Tylenol 2

The stolen medication could be harmful or potentially fatal if ingested, especially to children.

Missing boy located, Pharmacy Avenue and Huntingwood Drive area, Andrew Vivian, 15

Homicide #47/2020, 11 Stilecroft Drive, Toronto

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public on a homicide investigation.

On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at 4:57 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at 11 Stilecroft Drive.

It is reported that:

- officers arrived on scene and located a man with a gunshot wound in a vehicle

- paramedics attempted lifesaving measures and transported the man to a hospital

- the man succumbed to his injuries

The deceased has been identified as Joseph Hart, 50, of Toronto.

Homicide investigators are appealing to anyone who knows Joseph Hart, and has been in contact with him over the past week, to contact police.

Anyone who was driving in the area of Stilecroft Drive at 5 a.m., on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, with a dashcam, is also asked to contact police to obtain the video from their car.
