Man faces six charges in violent robbery investigation, Dufferin Street and Roselawn Avenue

On Friday, January 17, 2014, at approximately 10 p.m., police responded to a robbery call at a neighborhood convenience store located near Dufferin Street and Roselawn Avenue.

It is alleged that:

- the accused approached the female store clerk and attacked her, covering her face with a rag soaked in an unknown substance

- the woman struggled, but was punched several times, and had her face banged into the counter

- the accused then showed the woman a firearm that he was carrying

- the woman managed to escape the store and scream for help as the accused obtained money and fled the scene

The woman sustained serious, non-life-threatening, injuries.

On Saturday, January 18, 2014, Pablo Bermudez Garcia, 47, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. Administer Noxious Thing with Intent
2. Armed Robbery
3. Aggravated Assault
4. Breaking Out
5. Pointing a Firearm
6. Fail to Comply with Probation

He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Sunday, January 19, 2014.


Missing man from Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Robert Dery, 69

On behalf of the Surete du Quebec, the Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing man who may be in Toronto.

Robert Déry, 69, from Saint-Hyacinthe, located on the south shore of Montreal, was last seen on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 6:30 p.m.

He is described as white, 5'9", 178 lbs., with white hair and blue eyes. He speaks French and English.

Leslie Karpati, 82, was last seen on Monday, January 20, 2014, at 11:30 a.m., in the Rosedale Valley Road area.

He is described as white, 5'10", with a medium build, and thinning short gray hair. He was wearing navy-blue jogging pants, a lime-green T-shirt, black boots with a tan-coloured zippered bag that resembles a briefcase or luggage, and gold-rimmed glasses.

Police are concerned for his safety.

A Toronto Police Service officer has been arrested and charged.

Constable Gary Gould, 32, with 11 years' service, is attached to 33 Division.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at approximately 5 a.m., a man under arrest attempted to break police property, and spat on the arresting officer

- the officer punched the man several times

He is charged with:

1) Assault

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Friday, February 28, 2014.

On Monday, January 20, 2014, at 11:47 p.m., police responded to a stabbing call at an apartment building on Dawes Road.

Officer arrived and located a 40-year-old man suffering from obvious injuries. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Andrew Peter Jackson, 39, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1. Attempted Murder
2. Aggravated Assault
3. Weapons Dangerous
4. Carry Concealed Weapon

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 10 a.m., room 101.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance with an Aggravated Assault investigation.

On Saturday, January 18, 2014, at approximately 4:30 a.m., police responded to an assault in the area just north of Queen Street West and Lansdowne Avenue.

It is reported that:

- a 57-year-old man was walking on Lansdowne Avenue at Queen Street West

- without provocation, the man was attacked by an unknown man until he lost consciousness

- a passer-by located the unconscious man and contacted police

The man remains in hospital.

The suspect is described as white, in his 20s.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing woman.

Anna Joan Mallari, 37, was last seen on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at noon in the Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West area.

She is described as having a tanned complexion, 5'7", 110-120 lbs., with a thin build, shoulder-length straight black hair with a small black mole on the left side, above her lip, and brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a black 3/4-length winter coat with a hood, blue jeans and light-green winter boots. She may be carrying a beige canvass suitcase with brown trim.

She may be headed to Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Police are concerned for her safety.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing father and his son.

Khalid Mohamed, 20, and his son, Erza Mohamed, 13 months, were last seen on Monday, January 20, 2014, at approximately 7 p.m., in the Lawrence Avenue East and Warden Avenue area.

Khalid Mohamed is described as black, 5'7", 130 lbs., with a medium build, brown eyes and black hair. He was wearing a black jacket, dark-blue jeans and Jordan running shoes.

Erza Mohamed is described as black, 22 lbs., with black hair and a piercing in his right ear. He was wearing a gold necklace, red hat, two-toned blue coat, blue longsleeve shirt and grey/white/black booties.

They were last seen in a blue Ford Fiesta with Alberta licence plate BKC7 980.

Police are concerned for their safety.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with a collision investigation.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at 12:25 p.m., police received a call for a personal injury collision at Finch Avenue West at Champagne Drive.

It is reported that:

- a 47-year-old man was driving a 2007 Sterling garbage truck, southbound on Alness Street, turning left to eastbound Finch Avenue West

- a 55-year-old man was attempting to cross Finch Avenue West, from the south side to the north side, on the east side of the intersection

- the man was struck by the truck.

The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Armoured car robbery investigation, Fairview Mall, Sheppard Avenue East/Don Mills Road

On Monday, January 20, 2014, at 10:25 p.m., police responded to a shooting call at the Fairview Mall at 1800 Sheppard Avenue East.

Police responded and located an armoured car in the parking lot.

It is reported that:

- two men, wearing balaclavas, interrupted at gunpoint the security guards who were making a delivery,

- shots were exchanged between one of the security guards and one of the men

- a quantity of money was taken and both men fled in a silver vehicle,

- the vehicle was located by police a short distance away

The armored guards were not injured during the robbery.

- on December 22, 2013, the suspect engaged in an argument with another person and assaulted and attempted to choke them

- the suspect fled prior to police arriving

Thomas Newell is described as white with a ruddy complexion, 5'9", 190 lbs., with short brown hair and blue eyes. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck.
