On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at 11:30 a.m., Toronto Police responded with ambulance to a medical call at a residence on Bonis Avenue, Scarborough.

Officers located a woman, identified as Chiou-Shuang (Susan) Cheng, 40, deceased inside the residence.

42 Division conducted a suspicious death investigation assisted by Homicide investigators.

On Saturday, September 7, 2019, Mansour Jalali, 53, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) First Degree Murder

He appeared at Old City Hall court on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 2 p.m., in room 101.

Public Safety Alert, Phone Scam Targeting Seniors, Roncesvalles Avenue Area

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a phone scam targeting seniors.

On Thursday, September 5, 2019, at approximately 1:30pm, an unknown woman telephoned an elderly couple in the Roncesvalles area.

The elderly couple are from Poland and the woman spoke to them in Polish.

The woman verbally identified herself as a police officer.

The woman directed the couple to leave their money and jewelry in a bag outside of their home.

The woman claimed this would assist the police in capturing violent criminals about to engage in a criminal act.

The couple complied with the woman’s direction. Afterwards they found the bag, money and valuables had been stolen. No suspect was seen.

The Toronto Police Service wish to remind the public that police officers would never telephone anyone and direct them to part with their valuables to assist in an investigation or for any other purported reason.

2019 Ashura Parade, Tuesday, September 10, 2019, Temporary lane closures

The Ashura parade will take place from at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

The following roads will be impacted by temporary road closures at various times between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

- Northbound Doris Avenue from Hillcrest Avenue to Bishop Avenue
- Eastbound Bishop Avenue from Doris Avenue to Willowdale Avenue
- Northbound Willowdale Avenue from Bishop Avenue to Center Avenue
- Centre Avenue from Willowdale Avenue to Yonge Street

Motorist can expect traffic delays in the area.

TTC will be re-routing the 98C Willowdale Bus for the duration of the parade.

Missing Man, Phong Nguyen, 51, Weston Road Sheppard Avenue West area

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Phong Nguyen, 53, was last seen on September 6, 2019 in the area of Weston Road and Sheppard Avenue West. in the City of Toronto.

He is described as Asian, 5”4 170 lbs, medium build, black and grey hair, last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with white vertical stripes, dark blue shorts and dark coloured shoes.

Police are concerned for his wellbeing.

The Toronto Police Service requests the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Arulnesarajaha Appathurai, 49, was last seen on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at approximately 10:40 a.m., in the Dawes Road and Danforth Avenue area.

He is described as 5'6", 140 lbs., medium-length black hair, a full black beard. He was last seen wearing a green and white checkered long-sleeve shirt, khaki pants, and grey running shoes with velcro.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Man and woman sought in Distraction Theft investigation, Bay Street and Wellington Street

The Toronto Police Service requests the public's assistance identifying a man and woman wanted in a Distraction Theft investigation.

On Monday, April 8, 2019, at 4 p.m., a woman was with friends at a restaurant in the Bay Street and Wellington Street West area.

It is reported that:

- the woman had placed her bag in an area with her friends

- someone took her bag and removed personal items

- the bag was put back near its original spot

Security camera images captured the thieves and the theft of another persons belongings. The other victim has not reported the theft to police.

Police believe there may be other victims.

Man wanted in Robbery investigation, Yonge Street and Wellesley Street area

The Toronto Police Service requests the public's assistance identifying a man wanted in a Robbery investigation.

On Sunday, April 21, 2019, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a call for a robbery in the Yonge Street and Wellesley Street area.

It is reported that:

- a taxi driver picked up a fare in the area

- the man sat behind the taxi driver

- he wrapped the seat belt around the drivers throat and choked him as he drove

- he then stole the driver's wallet

- he jumped out of the moving taxi and fled on foot

Security camera images of the suspect are released.

Two men arrested in Firearm investigation, Spadina Avenue and Queen Street West area

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of arrests made in a firearm investigation.

On Sunday, September 8, 2019, at 4:27 a.m., officers responded to a call for a person with a gun in the Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- a 34-year-old man was in line at a fast food restaurant

- two men entered and began an argument with him and another man also in line

- one of the two men lifted his shirt showing a concealed handgun

- there was a struggle during which one of the victims was knocked to the ground

- the two victims fled the scene fearing being shot

- they were chased by the suspects, one of which pointed his firearm at them

- officers arrived and observed the two suspects running into a laneway

- both suspects were arrested, two loaded firearms were recovered

Jayson Jeyakanthan, 27, of Oshawa, was arrested. A warrant was discovered for his arrest dating back to March 2017. He is charged with:

1. Carry Concealed Weapon
2. two counts of Point Firearm
3. Possess Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace
4. Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
5. Possess Firearm Without Holding a License
6. Point Firearm
7. Assault with a Weapon
8. Use Firearm to Commit Indictable Offence
9. Store Firearm Carelessly
10. Carry Concealed Weapon
11. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
12. Possess Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
13. Possess Loaded Firearm
14. Possess Prohibited Device
15. Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime

Janson Jeyakanthan, 26, of Mississauga, is charged with:

1. Assault
2. Careless Storage of Firearm
3. Carry Concealed Weapon
4. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
5. Possession of a Firearm Knowing it's Possession is Unauthorized
6. Possess Loaded Firearm
7. Possess Prohibited device
8. Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime
9. Possess Schedule I Substance
10. Fail to Comply Recognizance

They will both appear in court at Old City Hall on Monday, September 9, 2019, at 10 a.m., in room 101.

Joshua Pontes, 29, was last seen on Sunday, September 8, at noon, in the Keele Street and Bloor Street West area.

He is described as 6'0", 170 lbs., thin build, brown eyes, short black hair and a scruffy black beard. He was last seen wearing a red polo shirt, black undershirt, blue jeans, and black headphones.

Police are concerned for his safety.

The 2019 Toronto Police Service United Way Greater Toronto annual fundraising campaign will kick off in the courtyard of police headquarters on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at 11 a.m. (In the event of inclement weather the celebration will be moved into the lobby).

Chief Mark Saunders will be joined at the kick-off by Toronto Police Services Board member City Councillor Michael Ford, United Way Greater Toronto President & CEO Daniele Zanotti, Fundraising Chair Superintendent Reuben Stroble, Senior Officers' Organization Vice President Dr. Catherine Martin-Doto and Toronto Police Association Director Jason Tomlinson.

It will be a high energy kick-off to the campaign as Service members will be enjoying music and participating in games at the morning celebration.

Toronto Police Service United Way Greater Toronto fundraising has seen over $9 million raised by Service members over the past 20 years.

Fatal collision #39/2019, Lawrence Avenue East at Underhill Drive

On Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 12:17 a.m., police received a report of a collision at Lawrence Avenue East and Underhill Drive.

It is reported that:

- a 20-year-old male driver, operating a motorcycle, was travelling westbound on Lawrence Avenue East, approaching Underhill Drive

- a 43-year-old male was driving his vehicle eastbound on Lawrence Avenue East and attempted to turn northbound on Underhill Drive

- the motorcycle struck the turning vehicle

- the motorcyclist died as a result of his injuries

The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services.

Police are asking local residents, business, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

Fatal collision #40/2019, Dixon Road at Islington Avenue

On Friday, September 6, 2019, at 4:17 p.m., police received a report of a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian in the Dixon Road at Islington Avenue.

It was reported that:

- a 47-year-old man was operating a vehicle westbound on Dixon Road

- a 75-year-old female pedestrian was crossing Dixon Road southbound and was struck by the vehicle

- the pedestrian was transported to hospital, but succumbed to her injuries the following day

The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services.

Police are asking local residents, business, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Public Safety Alert, Discarded syringes discovered, Montrose Junior Public School

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of syringes discovered at Montrose Junior Public School.

On Monday, September 9, 2019, at approximately 8:45 a.m., a child located a discarded syringe in the playground area at the rear of the school. Unaware of the potential risks, the child picked up the syringe, and later notified a teacher who located another syringe in the same area.

The child was not poked or injured and the needles were seized and discarded appropriately.

Parents are reminded to have a conversation with their children about the potential health and safety hazards of discarded syringes. Children should be advised not touch syringes and to notify an adult immediately. Adults should exercise caution if they decide to remove the syringe, and call 3-1-1 to request a pick up.

Gail Steele (Deano), 59, was last seen on Thursday, September 5, 2019, in the Queen Street West and Ossington Avenue area.

She is described as 5'2", 100 lbs., with short brown/grey hair, with a thin build, light complexion, poor vision and no teeth. She was last seen wearing a light blue cream jacket, grey sweater and light beige pants.

Police have concerns for her safety.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at 10 a.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, Homicide Detective Leslie Dunkley will update the media on the investigation into Homicide #49/2016.

The conference will be available on Bell T.O.C., and live-streamed on Youtube.

On Sunday, September 11, 2016, at 4:04 a.m., the Toronto Police Service responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Liberty Street and Mowat Avenue.

It is reported that:

- the victim, who has been identified as Kiesingar Gunn, 26, of Toronto, was in the Liberty Street and Mowat Avenue area,

- shots were fired and he was struck by a bullet, taken to hospital in serious condition, and succumbed to his injuries just before midnight on Sunday, September 11, 2016,

- police do not believe he was the intended target of the shooting.

Police are asking anyone who may have been at the scene, who may have cell phone video or photos, to contact police. Further, if there is anyone who has a business or residence in that area with security video that may have captured video of the event are also asked to contact the Homicide Squad.

Man wanted in Commercial Break and Enter investigation, Splendid China Mall

The Toronto Police Service requests the public’s assistance identifying a men wanted in a commercial break and enter investigation.

On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, in the evening, officers began an investigation into a break and enter at Splendid China Mall.

It is reported that:

- a hobby store was broken into

- approximately $30,000 of collector quality Marvel and Gundam figures were stolen

The suspect is described as 20-30, medium build, clean shaven, and straight black hair with bangs. He was wearing a black baseball cap with a white emblem, black shirt with white lettering saying 'Friends', black pants, and black shoes with white soles.

Security camera images are released.
