Sexual Assault Alert, Man charged in sexual assault investigation

On Sunday, February 24, 2013, police arrested a man in connection with a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, February 23, 2013, a 17-year-old girl was contacted by the accused, through Facebook, regarding a possible modelling opportunity

- the accused used the fictitious surname of Cooper

- the victim and the accused met at a house in the Finch Avenue West/Islington Avenue area

- the accused sexually assaulted the girl

At this point, police will not be releasing the name of the accused.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Man faces 52 charges in fraud investigation

On Friday, March 15, 2013, police arrested a man in connection with a fraud investigation.

It is alleged that:

- between November 2012 and March 2013, the accused responded to advertisements on Kijiji for the sale of jewellery

- the accused would meet with the seller and purchase the jewellery with a counterfeit certified cheque or counterfeit Canadian/American currency

It is further alleged that:

- the accused would then sell the jewellery on Kijiji

Michael Morris, 24, of Toronto, also known as Michael Love, Jason Love, Paul Love, and Jason Williams, has been charged with:

1) five counts of Fraud Over
2) five counts of Utter Forged Document
3) three counts of Fraud Under
4) 10 counts of Fail to Comply Recognizance
5) five counts of Possession of Counterfeit money
6) two counts of Assault with intent to resist arrest
7) Fail to attend court
8) eight counts of Fail to comply with Probation
9) four counts of Uttering Counterfeit Money
10) three counts of Possession of property obtained by crime
11) Attempt Fraud Under
12) Use credit card obtained by crime
13) Fraudulently possess credit card data
14) Personation with intent
15) Uttering forged Passport application
16) Identity theft

He was scheduled to appear in court at College Park, on Monday, March 18, 2013, room 501, at 10 a.m.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Sexual Assault Alert, Man wanted, Bramble Drive/Barrydale Crescent

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Monday, March 18, 2013, at 8:15 a.m., an eight-year-old girl was walking to school in the Bramble Drive/Barrydale Crescent area

- a man approached the girl and grabbed her

- the man indicated he had a weapon, which was never seen, and sexually assaulted her

The suspect is described as white, 19-22, 5’6"- 5’10", thin build, large nose with short, black, spiky hair. He was last seen wearing a plain, black, long-sleeved shirt, black silky pants and black shoes.

Police request assistance with robbery investigation, Finch Avenue West/Weston Road

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a robbery investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at approximately 11:25 p.m., a man and woman were standing outside a restaurant on Weston Road near Finch Avenue West, when a lone male approached

- the suspect, armed with a knife, proceeded to rob the man

- a struggle ensued and the man and woman both sustained stab wounds

- a second woman, known to the victims, exited the restaurant and tried to assist the victims and sustained minor injuries as a result

- the suspect was last seen driving a silver, four-door sedan, southbound on Weston Road, south of Finch Avenue West

The suspect is described as black, early 20's, 5'10"-5'11", medium build. He was wearing black pants, black shoes with white soles, a grey hooded sweatshirt, a brown hip-length jacket with fur on the hood, and a dark baseball hat with a shiny logo on the front.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a sexual assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- between September 4, 2012 and March 7, 2013, the man sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy at a home in the Markham Road/Sheppard Avenue East area

It is further alleged that:

- between September 4, 2012 and March 7, 2013, the man assaulted another 12-year-old boy at the same home in the Markham Road/Sheppard Avenue East area

On Thursday, March 7, 2013, Kearsley Peters, 56, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Sexual Assault
2) Sexual Exploitation
3) Sexual interference
4) Assault

Police believe there may be more victims. The man is a teacher at White Haven Junior Public School, teaching children with special needs.

Chad Poirier, 25, was last seen on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at 10 a.m., in the Lawrence Avenue West/Dufferin Street area.

He is described as white, 5’8”, 160 lbs., with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a grey jacket, a red hat, blue jeans and black shoes.

Police are concerned for his safety.

- on Monday, March 18, 2013, at 9:20 a.m., a man entered the women’s washroom of Riverdale Collegiate Institute in the Gerrard Street East/Jones Avenue area

- the man stayed in the washroom for one hour before he was noticed by the school staff

The suspect is described as black, 20-25, 5’10”, medium build with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a beige parka, a black hat, black pants and carrying a black backpack.

The Toronto Police Service's French Consultative Committee will host the International Francophonie Day event on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the main lobby at headquarters.

Dr. Éric Pierre, Honorary Consul, Consulate of the Republic of Haiti, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Odette Gough, news anchor, Téléjournal Ontario de Radio Canada, will serve as master of ceremonies.

This is the third year the International Francophonie Day will be celebrated at Toronto Police Service headquarters. International Francophonie Day was founded by the International Organization of La Francophonie on March 20, 1970. March 20 is now accepted as the day on which to celebrate the diverse francophone cultures of the world.

Police request assistance with stabbing investigation, Security camera image of suspect released

On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, police responded to a call for a stabbing in the Jane Street/Macdonald Avenue area.

It is reported that:

- a man hailed a taxi in the Keele Street/Wilson Avenue area

- the man directed the taxi driver to the Jane Street/Macdonald Avenue area

- once at this destination, the man directed the taxi driver to a nearby laneway

- the man began to stab the taxi driver in the stomach

- the taxi driver fled the taxi and fell to the ground

- the taxi was still in drive and ran over the taxi driver

- the man made a demand for money and the taxi driver complied

- the man fled on foot

The suspect is described as black, 25, 5’6", 150 lbs. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket.

Three men arrested in series of cell phone store robberies, Stolen cell phones recovered

On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, Hold Up Squad officers arrested three men in connection with a series of cell phone store robberies.

It is alleged that:

- between Sunday, Feb 17, 2013 and Tuesday, March 19, 2013, three men robbed seven cell phone stores in Toronto

- during each robbery, the men were masked and indicated they were armed

- they stole a quantity of cell phones and fled the scene

On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, police executed a search warrant at a home in the Finch Avenue West/Weston Road area.

It is further alleged that:

- police seized stolen cell phones

Brandon Caleb, 26, of Toronto; Jafari Hunter, 21, of Toronto; and Cosmo James 28, of Toronto, were each charged with:

1) seven counts of Robbery
2) seven counts of Disguise with Intent
3) Possession of Stolen Property

Five men arrested in armed robbery investigation

On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, Hold Up Squad officers charged five men in connection with a series of armed robberies.

It is alleged that:

- between June 2012 and March 2013, five men committed 10 armed robberies

- during each robbery the men were masked and armed with a handgun

- the accused demanded the victims to surrender their gold jewellery and cash

- the victims were bound with duct tape and some were pistol whipped

It is further alleged that:

- on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, the men committed an armed robbery at a home in the Sheppard Avenue East/Neilson Road area

- the accused ransacked the home and then fled the scene

Muhammad Ishaq, 27, of Toronto; Bismella Dost, 26, of Pickering; Schmaul Richards, 21, of Toronto; Homayoon Popal, 25, of Pickering; and Joshua Geness, 20, of Toronto; were charged with a total of 86 charges, including Armed Robbery, Forcible Confinement and Disguise With Intent.

Media advisory, Thursday, March 21, 2013, 11 a.m., Dundas Street West/Huron Street, Project "Blue Serpent"

On Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 11 a.m., Acting Unit Commander Howard Page and the Chinatown Business Improvement Area Chair Tony Louie will meet at the corner of Dundas Street West and Huron Street to announce the start of Project "Blue Serpent."

Acting Superintendent Page will be speaking about the launch of project "Blue Serpent,"an eight-week project that began on Monday, March 18, 2013. The project is focusing on crime prevention, local disorder issues related to robberies, theft from autos, panhandling, intoxicated person(s), drugs and any related problems.

Police are being proactive and directing additional patrols in the Chinatown area.

Similar projects have taken place over the past years in the downtown Chinatown area. Blue Serpent will be very similar. Chinatown is a very safe neighbourhood. Officers will provide a heightened presence in the area and will be proactive by visiting local businesses and reviewing crime prevention strategies as well as utilizing Auxiliary Officers to educate residents and visitors to remind them to lock their car doors and not store any valuables in their cars.

Graffiti remains to be a main concern to the Chinatown BIA. Police will be working with the community and are encouraging residents, visitors and business owners who witness the act of graffiti taking place to immediately call police on the emergency 9-1-1 telephone line to report this or any other crime in progress. If you see suspicious activity or witness a crime, please call police at 416-808-2222. All acts of graffiti should be reported to police. Person(s) who wilfully damage property commit the criminal act of ‘Mischief’ and are subject to prosecution under the Criminal Code of Canada.
