Homicide #20/2019, Lawrence Taylor Gannon, 28

On Sunday, April 28, 2019, at 10:33 p.m., officers responded to a call for the sound of gunshots in the Ivy Green Crescent and Merkley Square area.

Officers arrived to find a man suffering life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital via emergency run but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased in hospital.

The victim has been identified as Lawrence Taylor Gannon, 28, of Toronto.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

Investigators wish to speak to anyone who may have specific information on the victim's activities in the day leading up to his death.

The suspect is described as a man in his mid 20s, dark brown skin, thin build, 5'11", clean shaven. He was scene fleeing the area on foot.

Man arrested in Robbery/Break-and-Enter investigation, Yonge Street and Davenport Road

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in an investigation into a series of thefts from senior living residences from April 6 to 19, 2019.

See previous release.

It is alleged that:

- a man entered a number of retirement residences

- the man checked unit doors to determine if they were unlocked

- the man entered rooms and stole a quantity of property consisting of currency, jewelry and other valuables

On Monday, April 29, 2019, Mark Hardy, 52 of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1. seven counts of Break and Enter
2. Robbery
3. two counts of Fail to Comply Probation

He is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Monday, May 13, 2019.

Arrest made in Drug investigation, Kennedy Road and Highway 401, Man and Woman facing 14 charges each

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a drug investigation.

On Saturday, April 27, 2019, police executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant, in the area of Kennedy Road and Highway 401.

It is alleged that:

- Police located a quantity of cocaine, fentanyl and a loaded handgun

Alton Smith, 24, and Stacey Ballantyne, 41, of Toronto, were arrested and each have been charged with:

1. four counts of Unlawfully Possess Schedule I Substance
2. four counts of Possess Schedule 1 Substance For Purpose Trafficking
3. Possess Proceeds Of Property Or Thing Obtained By Crime Exceeding $5000
4. Possess Restricted Or Prohibited Firearm Without Holding a Licence and Registration Certificate
5. Use/Handle/Store Firearm, Carelessly
5. Possess Firearm other than Restricted or Prohibited Firearm knowingly not holding a licence
6. Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
7. Possess Firearm with Altered Serial Number

Alton Smith, 24, is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at College Park Courts, at 9:30 a.m., in room 507.

Stacey Ballantyne, 41, is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, June 3, 2019, at College Park Courts, at 9:30 a.m., in room 505.

Joan Van Soeren, 65, was last seen on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at 8:00 a.m., in the area of Shaw Street and Queen Street West. She is described as 5’6”, with a thin build, 120 lbs., with long white/ silver hair, and green eyes.

She was last seen wearing a beige long-sleeved shirt and black pants. Police are concerned for her safety.

She responds to the name “Anneke”, pronounced Annika.

Iyana Shakes, 37, was last seen on the evening of Monday, April 29, 2019, at 8:30 p.m., in the area of Humber College Boulevared and Highway 27.

She is described as 5’3”, with a medium build, straight, black, shoulder-length hair, with bangs. She was last seem wearing a black winter jacket, with wide sleeves, grey pants and silver, shiny running shoes. She was also carrying a black large purse with brown handles.

He is described as 6', 165 lbs., blue eyes with short gray hair, balding on top, and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a blue jean jacket, black pants, a black toque, black shoes with white soles and was carrying an olive green coffee cup.

Public Safety Alert, Rowanwood Avenue and Cluny Drive area,

The Toronto Police Service is issuing a Public Safety Alert in relation to a break and enter investigation.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at approximately 3 a.m., a break and enter occurred at a residence in the Rowanwood Avenue and Cluny Drive area.

It is reported that:

- a person gained entry through a kitchen window that was unlocked

- a quantity of property, which included the following medications were taken: Levothyroxine, Cymbalta, Tylenol 3, Xeljanz ,Gabapentin, Trazodone

- the person exited the premises, took the homeowners bicycle and fled the area

The pills/capsules could be harmful/fatal if ingested, especially to children.

Homicide #21/2019, Premachchandran Sundaralingam, 53, Renforth Drive and Rathburn Road, Richard Turner, 48, Wanted for manslaughter, Photo released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a man wanted for manslaughter.

On Sunday, April 28, 2019, at 8:25 p.m., officers responded to a medical complaint at a residence in the area of Renforth Drive and Rathburn Road. A man within the residence was located with injuries and taken to hospital by paramedics.

Through investigation it was discovered that the injured man had previously been involved in a physical altercation with another man.

On Monday, April 29th, 2019 the injured man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased in hospital. He has been identified as:

Premachchandran Sundaralingam, 53, of Toronto.

Richard "Rick" Turner, 48, of Toronto, has been identified as the suspect. He is wanted for:

1) Manslaughter

He is known to have contacts in Toronto, Oshawa, Ottawa and Sault St. Marie. He is described as 5’9", 190 lbs., with a stocky build.

His photograph is attached.

If seen, do not approach. Call 9-1-1.

Large Quantity of Computers Seized, Man faces 45 property and proceeds of crime charges, Fahad Mohammed, 42, arrested

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in an investigation into a large quantity of stolen Apple Mac computers.

It is alleged that:

- a man was found in possession of and and selling stolen computers

Members of 14 Division Major Crime Unit commenced an investigation and obtained search warrants at two separate addresses associated to the man.

- a storefront at 2667 Islington Avenue
- a residence in the area of Islington Ave. and Highway 401

A search of the addresses is alleged to have yielded:

- 190 Mac computers
- $32,640 in cash

Fahad Mohammed, 42, of Toronto has been arrested and charged with:

1) 42 Counts of Possession of property Obtained by Crime Under
2) 2 Counts of Traffic in Property Obtained by Crime
3) Possession of proceeds of Crime

He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 2201 Finch Avenue West, 10:00 a.m.

A total of 42 of the stolen computers have since been returned to the rightful owners, many of whom were students. The investigation is ongoing.

High Park Cherry Blossom Festival, Saturday, May 4, 2019, to Monday, May 13, 2019, High Park Traffic Closures

From Saturday, May 4, 2019 to Monday, May 13, 2019, the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, will take place in High Park.

High Park will be closed to all non-essential vehicles 24 hours a day, starting on Saturday, May 4 at 7 a.m. The closure will remain in effect until the conclusion of the Festival, which is expected to be no later than Monday, May 13, 2019.

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should consider alternate methods of transportation when visiting High Park.

Alternatively, there are multiple locations throughout the city with large concentrations of Cherry trees that will be in bloom. View Cherry Blossom Festival locations


The festival will take place regardless of weather conditions.

Federal Inmate Wanted, Jason Burhger, 34, Photograph Released

The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R.O.P.E.) Squad is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a federal offender wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant as a result of his breach of statutory release.

Jason Burgher, 34, is described as a 5'11", 145 lbs., black hair and brown eyes. He has a scar on his forehead and under his right eye.

He is serving a six-year and one month sentence for Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Narcotic For The Purpose of Trafficking and Utter Threat To Cause Death/Harm.

The offender is known to frequent the city of Toronto.

He is considered armed and dangerous. If seen, do not approach, call 911 immediately.

Homicide #22/2019, 256 John Garland Boulevard

On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at 1:16 p.m., officers responded to a call for a shooting at 256 John Garland Boulevard.

Officers arrived to find a man suffering serious injuries believed to be from a shooting. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide investigators have been called in.

A post-mortem examination took place on Thursday, May 2, 2019.

Blain Gerrado Grindley, 26, of Toronto, has been identified as the victim.

Iani Lutchman, 14, was last seen on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at 12:31 p.m., in the Kennedy Road and McNicoll Avenue area.

He is described as 5’7”, with a large build. He was last seen wearing red pants, and a black/white/red jacket. He was also carrying a black backpack.

Police are concerned for his safety.
