Campaign Results:

Total Tickets Issued: 3,307 during the campaign, of which 1,433 were for speeding (43%)

Community Engagement: Numerous TV, radio and print stories got people talking about issues that impact the safety of vulnerable road users. On social media, we saw thousands of views, comments and engagement with research that can be viewed via #SlowDownToronto. Traffic Services thanks the public for talking about the issues surrounding traffic safety.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2019, 10 a.m., 52 Division Inspector Matthew Moyer and members of the Chinatown Business Improvement Area (BIA) will meet at Dundas Street West and Huron Street to announce the start of Project Blue Hog.

Inspector Matt Moyer and members of the Chinatown BIA will be speaking about the ten-week project that will begin on Monday, April 22, 2019. The project is focusing on crime prevention, local disorder issues related to theft from autos, shoplifting, panhandling, public intoxication, drugs and other related problems.

Police are being proactive and directing additional patrols in the Chinatown area.

Similar projects have taken place over the past years in the downtown Chinatown area to ensure that Chinatown remains a very safe neighbourhood for both local visitors and tourists. Officers will provide a heightened presence in the area, and will be proactive by visiting local businesses and reviewing crime prevention strategies.

In addition, police will conduct workshops and presentations to raise awareness for seniors in the area of Chinatown. These Seniors Safety Campaign workshops will be conducted in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. This will provide information against such fraudulent scams as the Canada Revenue Agency telemarketing scam, identity theft and Power of Attorney abuse.

Police will be working with the community and are encouraging residents, visitors and business owners who witness any of the above acts in progress to immediately call police on the emergency 9-1-1 telephone line to report this or any other crime in progress. If you see suspicious activity or witness a crime please call police on the non-emergency line at 416-808-2222.
