Media Advisory, NHLPA Goals & Dreams Announce Hockey Equipment Donation to Toronto Police Service Youth Hockey Program, Friday, February 22, 2019, 1:45 p.m., Mastercard Centre, 400 Kipling Avenue

On Friday, February 22, 2019, at the D.K. (Doc) Seaman Hockey Resource Centre of the MasterCard Centre, located at 400 Kipling Avenue, Chief Mark Saunders will be joined by Mathieu Schneider, NHLPA Special Assistance to the Executive Director, and William Nylander and Ron Hainsey of the Toronto Maple Leafs, as the NHLPA Goals & Dreams program announces a hockey equipment donation to the Toronto Police Service Youth Hockey Program.

Grade five students from the Malvern and Shoreham communities and several police officers will also be in attendance.

On Friday, February 22, 2019, at 11 a.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, Chief Mark Saunders will present a cheque for $674,420.38 to Victim Services Toronto. It is the largest contribution by the Chief's Gala.

The cheque represents proceeds of the Chief’s Gala in support of Victim Services Toronto that was held on Thursday November 1, 2018, at the Beanfield Centre to a crowd of 1,300 guests.

The cheque presentation will be available on the TOC and will be live-streamed.

Please note that, for the safety of employees and visitors, all persons entering Toronto Police Service headquarters must go through security screening. You are not required to submit to screening. You may leave at any time but, if you do not consent to this screening, you will be denied entry. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Toronto Police Service requests the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Shahin Pirouzi, 39, was last seen on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at approximately 1:40 p.m., in the Queen Street East and Victoria Street area.

He is described as a 5’10", 174 lbs., tanned complexion, balding with short grey hair on the sides, brown beard, moustache, and brown eyes. He is wearing a waist-length black winter coat, black long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and a pair of black boots.

He suffers from a pre-existing medical condition.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Missing man located, Queen Street East and Victoria Street area, Shahin Pirouzi, 39

Homicide #93/2018, 2063 Islington Avenue, Two men arrested

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of arrests made in Homicide #93/2018.

On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at approximately 6 p.m., officers responded to a call for a collision at Islington Avenue and St. Andrews Boulevard.

Officers arrived and located a blue two-door 2008 Honda Civic that had traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

Officers located a man in the car who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds.

He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The victim has been identified as Jonathan Gayle-West, 29, of Oshawa.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Friday, December 14, 2018.

On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, Samir Adem, 18, and Salman Ahmed, 18, both of Toronto, were arrested and charged with:

1) Second Degree Murder

They both appeared in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, February 21, 2019.

Jack Carlton, 15, was last seen on Friday, February 22, 2019, at 11:15 a.m., in the Dowling Avenue and Queen Street West area.

He is described as 5’7", 141 lbs., with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing tan boots, blue jeans, a black jacket and a red hooded sweatshirt.

Police are concerned for his safety.

The Toronto Police Service will be celebrating Black History Month on Monday, February 25, 2019, at 6 p.m., at the Jamaican Canadian Association, located at 995 Arrow Road.

The theme of this year's Black History Month is “The Future is Now”.

The Service, in partnership with the Etobicoke School of the Arts, community members and organizations will be recognizing the leadership of several black youth who have made an impact on their city. The event will also showcase the art performances of several students.

Immediately following the event there will be an informal reception with refreshments.

Missing Person Unit Appeal For Information, Police seek assistance identifying a deceased man, Recovered from Lake Ontario in 1988

The Missing Person Unit (MPU) is highlighting a case from Sunday, January 17, 1988, of human remains recovered from Lake Ontario.

The remains are from a white man, 20-25, 5'5", 185 lbs. or less, brown eyes, thick black hair, dark eyebrows and at the time one day’s growth of facial hair.

He had round scar on his left knee, his left ear was pierced and had a round ball stud earring in it.

He was wearing a waist length blue/gray or possibly beige “Westport” zippered jacket with a vinyl hood, blue/gray/green plaid long sleeve shirt, a white t-shirt with a black collar and black sleeves with the word “Rush” in green on the front. Also had on blue jeans (waist size 30 with shortened pant legs), a pair of black combat style ankle boots and wearing a Bulova “Set-O-Matic” watch with a black nylon band. His personal effects included a black lighter and a combination knife/bottle opener.

Recently the Ontario Pathologist’s office, with the assistance of the O.P.P., undertook to create an artist’s rendition of this man in the hopes that it will help someone recognize this individual and bring some resolution to both his family and the investigation.

The MPU ensures the investigative response of Missing Persons and Unidentified Human Remains investigations including historic unsolved cases.

This case is also featured on Canada's Missing website, which is the website for the National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains.

He is described as 5’5”, 115 lbs, with a thin build, green eyes, and brown hair to the collar. He was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt with a school logo over the left breast, a black bubble jacket, black 'Timberland' boots, and carrying a bright red backpack.

Heidy Mejia Holguin, 15, was last seen on the afternoon of Friday, February 22, 2019, at her school in the area of Black Creek Drive and Weston Road.

She is described as approximately 5’7", 190 lbs., with short black hair and wearing a school uniform consisting of grey pants, a burgundy sweater and black shoes. She was carrying a red Nike school bag.

On Monday, February 25, 2019, at approximately 10 a.m., Harvey Sherman, 71, of Toronto was last seen in the Millwood Road and Bayview Avenue area.

He is described as 5'9", with blue eyes, clean shaven, and short grey hair. He was wearing a blue winter parka, a black cashmere scarf and dark pants.

Firearms investigation, Man arrested

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest and subsequent firearms seizure.

It is alleged that:

- On Thursday, February 7, 2019, at approximately 3:40 p.m., a shooting occurred at a library in the Keele Street and Wilson Avenue area

- no one was injured

The Toronto Police Service West Command, Gun Violence Suppression Unit, started an investigation.

On Sunday, February 24, 2019, officers, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police, executed a Criminal Code search warrant at an address in Bracebridge, Ontario.

Four people were arrested and charged with numerous firearm offences by the Ontario Provincial Police - Bracebridge Detachment.

It is further alleged that:

- inside the residence, police located numerous firearms

Nathaniel White, 20, of Toronto, was arrested during the search warrant and charged with:

1. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
2. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
3. Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
4. Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
5. Discharge Firearm with Intent
6. Breach of Recognizance

He was scheduled to appear in court at the Bracebridge Courthouse, 3 Dominion Street, Bracebridge, Ontario, on Monday, February 25, 2019, at 10 a.m.
