Fatal collision #58/2018, Ellesmere Road and Birchmount Road

On Friday, November 9, 2018, at 6:49 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Ellesmere Road and Birchmount Road.

It is reported that:

- two TTC buses stopped westbound Ellesmere Road just west of Birchmount Road at a bus stop

- a 46-year-old woman was driving a Nissan Pathfinder westbound Ellesmere Road in the curb lane approaching Birchmount Road

- the Nissan mounted the northwest corner of the intersection and struck a 59-year-old woman, a pedestrian, on the north sidewalk by the TTC bus stop

- the woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene

- the Nissan continued along the sidewalk, striking a second pedestrian, a 31-year-old man

- the man sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital

The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services.

Police are asking local residents, business, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

The Toronto Police Service requests the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Ricardo Mesa, 61, was last seen on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at approximately 8:00 a.m., in the King Street West and Spencer Avenue area.

He is described as 5’6”, 115-120 lbs., with a scar on the right side of his face. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, faded black jeans, with yellow and green shoes.

Police are concerned for his safety.

On Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 11 a.m., at 42 Division, 242 Milner Avenue, the kick-off for the 24th Annual Toronto Police Auxiliary Toy Drive will take place.

This event supports 3,000 children, youth, and their families, from the Scarborough area. Auxiliary officers from 41 and 42 Division are seeking the charitable and generous support from the community, local businesses and students from area schools.

Your efforts, and those of our Auxiliary officers, will help bring in the spirit of the season and give a child in need a wonderful Christmas.

Media support to assist with public awareness of this worthwhile event is crucial to the success of the Toy Drive.

All donations of a new unwrapped toy are welcome. We are seeking toys for boys and girls of all ages.

Your donations may be dropped off at the following locations:
41 Division: 2222 Eglinton Avenue East
42 Division: 242 Milner Avenue

Remembrance Day Parade, Sunday, November 11, 2018, 10 a.m., Road Closures

Sunday, November 11, 2018, marks the 100-year anniversary of the end of World War 1. Thirty-two Brigade will host a Canadian Forces Military parade to commemorate this significant date.

The Remembrance Day Parade will start at 10:10 a.m., from Maple Leaf Square, travel northbound on York Street to northbound on University Avenue. At Dundas Street, the Parade will splinter into two separate routes.

One Parade will proceed eastbound on Dundas Street to southbound on Bay Street, arriving at Old City Hall for a ceremony at 10:45 a.m.

The second Parade will continue northbound on University Avenue to northbound Queens Park Crescent West, arriving at the Queens Park Legislature for a ceremony at 10:45 p.m.

Road closures begin in the formation area at 9:30 a.m., and continue along the route from 10:10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The public is being asked not to park within the parade route after 7 a.m.

Traffic diversions and delays can be expected along the parade route commencing 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Motorists are advised to keep this information in mind when making travel plans.


The road closures are as follows:

- Bremner Boulevard, Maple Leaf Square will be closed from 15 York Street to Lakeshore Boulevard

Local traffic and parking garage access will be permitted on Bremner Boulevard via York St.

Parade route:

- start Maple Leaf Square
- westbound on Bremner Boulevard, westbound lanes
- northbound on York Street, northbound lanes
- northbound on University Avenue, northbound lanes
- Parade splits at Dundas Street into 2 routes

One Parade continues:

- northbound on University Avenue, northbound lanes
- northbound on Queens Park Crescent West, southbound lanes
- dispersal at Queens Park Legislative Building, Ceremony site

The second parade route:

- eastbound Dundas Street, eastbound lanes
- southbound Bay Street, southbound lanes
- dispersal at Old City Hall, Ceremony site

Caitlyn Aseltine, 29, was last seen on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 12:15 p.m., in the Dundas Street West and Keele Street area.

She is described as 5’ 6", with a medium build, brown eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, black Puma shoes, a black and white toque, and a navy blue jacket.

Salaiyna Thorne-Riddley, 15, was last seen on Friday, November 9, 2018, at approximately 5 a.m., in the Don Mills Road and Duncan Mill Road area.

She is described as 5’5”, 120 lbs., with short black buzzed hair, and brown eyes.

There is no clothing description at this time.

She is known to frequent the Graydon Hall Drive area of Toronto.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Public Safety Alert, Stolen Medication, St. Clair Avenue East and Danforth Road area

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a quantity of stolen medication.

It is reported that:

- on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at 8 a.m., a container with 16 Oxycodone pills was stolen in the St. Clair Avenue East and Danforth Road area.

The pills could be harmful/fatal if ingested, especially to children.

Robbery / Hate Crime Investigation, Nine Young Persons wanted, Fairholme Avenue and Bathurst Street area

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying and locating nine Young Persons wanted in a Robbery / Hate Crime Investigation.

On Sunday, November 11, 2018, at 8 p.m., officers responded to an Assault in the Fairholme Avenue and Bathurst Street area.

It is reported that:

- four, 17-year-old boys were walking in the area, all of whom were wearing attire of their religious faith

- as they passed another group of young persons, who were unknown to them, derogatory comments were made about their religion

- the unknown group then assaulted two of the 17-year-old boys, punching and kicking them

- a pair of sunglasses was stolen from one of the victims

- the unknown suspects split up and fled the area

Police were called and attending officers located and arrested one of the suspects involved in the assault

The victims of the assault received treatment for their injuries at the scene.

The outstanding suspects are described as in their early teens.

Fatal collision #59/2018, Kipling Avenue and Annabelle Drive

On Thursday, November 1, 2018, at 8:43 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Kipling Avenue and Annabelle Drive area.

It is reported that:

- a 71-year-old man was driving a Honda Accord southbound on Kipling Avenue at Annabelle Drive

- a 92-year-old pedestrian was crossing Kipling Avenue at Annabelle Drive from the east to the west side

- the Honda struck the pedestrian

- the pedestrian was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries

On Saturday, November 10, 2018, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services.

Police are asking local residents, business, and drivers, who may have security or dash-camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at Canadian Tire, at 1901 Eglinton Avenue East, members of the Toronto Police Service, in partnership with Canadian Tire staff, will be holding its Toys for Kids kick-off.

This annual event raised $10,000 last year and supported families in the local and surrounding Divisions.

This year, the officers, Auxiliary members, volunteers and staff will be joined by Canadian Tire store owner Mike Kenopic. The Toronto Police Service will be presenting him with a plaque in appreciation of his generosity over the years and participation in the Toys for Kids program.

In attendance will be A/Staff Superintendent Mark Barkley, Superintendent Reuben Stroble, and Inspector Peter Moreira.

Members of the public are invited to drop by for refreshments.

For the next five weeks, this Canadian Tire location will be accepting Canadian Tire money and cash donations that will be used to buy gifts to be distributed via local social service agencies.

On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Toronto Cooper Koo Family Cherry Street YMCA, located at 461 Cherry Street, members of the Toronto Police Service, led by Superintendent Scott Baptist, will be joined by community members and stakeholders for the first Town Hall Meeting hosted by the Service’s Disabilities Community Consultative Committee.

The event will be an opportunity for members of the community to help inform better policing services for those living with disabilities.

This committee, created in November 2016, is one of nine Community Consultative Committees that are coordinated by the Toronto Police Service in an effort to address concerns, develop mutually-beneficial solutions, and create relationships between members of the Service and the city’s diverse communities.

The Town Hall Meeting is open to the media and will be live-streamed.

Firearms Investigation, Broadview Avenue and Dundas Street East area, Jahvon Nurse, 21, faces 11 charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a firearms investigation.

On Sunday, November 11, 2018, at approximately 12 p.m., members of Central South District Criminal Investigation Bureau and Major Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the Broadview Avenue and Dundas Street East area.

It is alleged that:

- a loaded 9 mm Glock handgun was seized

Jahvon Nurse, 21, of Toronto, is charged with:

1. Uttering Threats
2. Use of Firearm During the Commission of an Indictable Offence
3. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
4. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
5. Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
6. Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
7. Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
8. Possession of Weapon
9. Carrying Concealed Weapon
10. Possess Firearm with Altered Serial Number
11. Fail to Comply Recognizance

He is scheduled to appear in court, at College Park Court, on Tuesday, November 20, at 10 a.m., in room 501.
