Media advisory, Wednesday, June 27, 2018, noon, 890 Caledonia Road, Project Water - water for the homeless

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at noon, at 890 Caledonia Road, over 150 social service agencies, outreach providers and homeless shelters will receive in excess of 300,000 water bottles and 3,000 summer survival kits in an effort to arm frontline relief organizations with lifesaving resources to reach out to the homeless in extreme summer weather conditions.

The Toronto Police Service, and 13 Division, have been involved in this cause for over eight years. Our community-minded sponsors, which include Nestle Waters Canada, Canada Cartage, The Bargains Group, and Home Depot, along with officers from Traffic Services and Auxiliary Officers from the Community Partnerships and Engagement Unit, will be on hand to help distribute water and aid to the homeless.

Project Water is an Engage and Change program committed to helping those who are less fortunate endure the hardships of summer by providing such necessities as bottled water, a re-usable water bottle, sunscreen, hats, toiletries and various first-aid items. Since its inception in 2000, Project Water has placed in excess of 2,000,000 bottles of water into the hands of Toronto and surrounding area homeless people.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and to assist officers and outreach personnel at The Bargain Group, 890 Caledonia Road, starting at noon.

Traffic Services Safety Initiative, Campaign results

The Toronto Police Service is committed to Vision Zero and making Toronto roads among the safest in the world.

Vision Zero acknowledges collisions are going to happen, but that Killed or Seriously Injured (KSI) collisions are preventable.

From Monday, June 18, 2018, to Sunday, June 24, 2018, Traffic Services focused on known contributing factors to KSI collisions. These factors include speeding, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and impaired driving.

Over 600 provincial offence notices were issued during this campaign.

The top infractions were:

Speeding: 203
Disobey Sign Offences: 163
Distracted Driving Offences: 75
Turning Offences: 72
Disobey Traffic Signal: 66
Careless Driving: 57

Criminal Code Offences:

Impaired Driving Arrests: 6
Warn Range Driving Suspensions: 2

We all have a role to play in making Toronto roadways safe places.

Four boys face total of 54 charges in Robbery investigations, Christie Pits Park and Dufferin Grove Park areas

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of arrests in several Robbery investigations.

It is alleged that:

- between Tuesday June 19, 2018, and Monday June 25, 2018, several swarmings were reported in the Christie Pits Park and Dufferin Grove Park areas

- victims were robbed by a group of males who, in some instances, held their victims at knifepoint

- they were struck in a violent manner and had their property taken

It is further alleged that:

- in one instance, one of the male suspects indicated he was in possession of a handgun

On Monday, June 25, 2018, four boys were arrested.

A 17-year-old boy, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) 11 counts of Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
2) four counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
3) nine counts of Fail to Comply with Young Offenders Act Disposition

2) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
3) two counts of Carrying Concealed Weapon
4) three counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance

A 15-year-old boy, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) two counts of Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
2) three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
3) Fail to Comply with Recognizance


A 15-year-old boy, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) two counts of Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
2) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
3) Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by an OIC


They were scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, 9 a.m.

The Young People cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Two men arrested, face 38 charges, Two firearms seized, Sherbourne Street and Dundas Street East area and Jarvis Street and Gerrard Street East area

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an investigation in which two men have been arrested and two firearms seized.

It is alleged that:

- on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at approximately 8 p.m., officers from 51 Division were on general patrol in the Sherbourne Street and Dundas Street East area.

- the officers became involved in an investigation of a vehicle with two occupants in a parking lot in the area

- a quantity of crack cocaine was seized along with a quantity of ammunition for a handgun

The investigation continued and a search warrant was authorized to search a hotel room in the Jarvis Street and Gerrard Street East area

It is further alleged that:

- a search of the hotel room located two handguns, a prohibited suppression device "silencer," $8,000 in Canadian currency and ammunition for two handguns

On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, Jonathan Monette, 23, of Quebec, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) three counts of Fail to Comply Recognizance
2) two counts of Careless Storage of Ammunition
3) two counts of Possession prohibited ammunition
4) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized
5) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
6) Possession of a Loaded Firearm
7) two counts of Possession of prohibited firearm
8) Alter Serial Number on Firearm
9) two counts of Weapons Dangerous
10) Possession of prohibited device
11) Possession of a Firearm While Prohibited


On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, Charles Boucher-Savard, 29, of Quebec, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
2) two counts of Careless Storage of Ammunition
3) two counts of Possession prohibited ammunition
4) two counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized
5) two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
6) Possession of a Loaded Firearm
7) two counts of Possession of prohibited firearm
8) Alter Serial Number on Firearm
9) two counts of Weapons Dangerous
10) Possession of prohibited device
11) three counts of Possession of a Firearm While Prohibited

They were both scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, 10 a.m., room 103.

It is further alleged that police seized:

- Walther PPK .32 calibre pistol with ammunition
- .38 calibre revolver
- prohibited suppression device "silencer"

On Tuesday, June 19, 2018, the Toronto Police Service published a news release asking for the public's assistance locating two men wanted for the Attempt Murder of two girls, aged five and nine.

See previous release.

Attached to that news release were photographs of the wanted men, Tarrick Rhoden, 23, and T'Quan Robertson, 23. The photograph of T'Quan Robertson was released in error. It cannot be broadcast.

Police are informing the media so the media can remove that photograph.

A replacement photograph has been released.

Police seek assistance identifying "LA Bandit" wanted in numerous bank robberies, Security camera video of wanted man released

Toronto Police Service Hold Up is releasing security camera video of a bank robbery suspect and seeking assistance identifying him.

This male suspect is believed responsible for a series of five financial robberies in Toronto, Durham Region and London.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 10:10 a.m., a man entered a bank near Yonge Street and Wellesley Street West wearing an "LA" baseball cap, dark sunglasses, and a scarf around the lower portion of his face in an attempt to conceal his identity

- he approached a Customer Service Representative and placed a blue backpack on the counter

- he put his hand inside the backpack and made a verbal demand for money, indicating he had a gun in the bag

- he was given a quantity of money and exited the branch

It is further reported that the same man is also wanted for four other bank robberies that took place:

- on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at 10:40 a.m., on King Avenue West in Newcastle, Ontario

- on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., in the Bloor Street West and Spadina Avenue area, and he had a black beard and moustache

- on Friday, May 18, 2018, at 9:30 a.m., in the Oxford Street East and Richmond Street area, London, Ontario

- on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 3:15 p.m., in the Kingston Road and Victoria Park Avenue area

The man has been described as black, light complexion, 25-35, 6', facial hair. During the robberies, he wore dark sunglasses and his hair was covered with a baseball hat.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Toronto will host an event on Thursday, June 28, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Yonge-Dundas Square, in partnership with the Toronto Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Paramedic Services, Toronto Transit Commission, Uber, Metrolinx, Dignity Memorial, and Accident Awareness.

The event is designed to encourage everyone to choose alternative means of transportation this summer, to and from events, after consuming substances that cause impairment.

Every year, hundreds of people are killed and tens of thousands are injured in crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs. These deaths and injuries are 100% preventable.

Vehicles from the above organizations will be lined up at Yonge-Dundas Square and accessible to the public. Volunteers will be on hand to give Torontonians access to the vehicles while raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.

President Everilda Ratnakumar, on the Board of Directors MADD Toronto Chapter, and participating organizations, will be available to speak to media from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For further inquiries, please email info@maddtoronto.ca

Wesley States, 24, charged in Child Luring Investigation, Yonge Street and Finch Avenue West area, Police concerned there may be other victims, Images of man released

On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, members of the Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes Child Exploitation Section executed a search warrant in the Yonge Street and Finch Avenue West area

It is alleged that:

- from October 2015 to December 2017, a man communicated online with numerous children

- the man engaged the children in sexually explicit chats

- the man sent the children sexually explicit images over the internet

Wesley States, 24, of Toronto, has been arrested. He is charged with:

1) Luring a Child (under 16)
2) Invitation to Sexual Touching
3) Luring a Child (under 18)
4) Make Child Pornography
5) Make Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child
6) Access Child Pornography

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, 10 a.m., courtroom 306.

It is further alleged that:

- police believe Wesley States communicated with numerous other children using the online identity of "Cody."

Police are concerned there may be other victims.

Police seek assistance identifying man in investigation into Assault on TTC bus operator, Eglinton Avenue West and Bathurst Street area, Security camera images of man released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance identifying a man wanted in an investigation into an Assault on a TTC bus operator.

It is reported that:

- on Monday, April 16, 2018, at approximately 9:40 p.m., a man boarded a TTC bus in the Eglinton Avenue West and Bathurst Street area

- a short while after, the man became involved in a dispute with the bus operator

- he then assaulted the operator, exited the bus, and fled on foot

The man is described as 25-30, 5’10”, 200 lbs., heavy build. He was wearing a green bomber-style jacket, grey hooded top, blue jeans, white shoes, white bandana covering his head.

Security camera images of the man have been released.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a Voyeurism investigation.

On Thursday, June 21, 2018, and Tuesday, June 26, 2018, officers from 22 Division attended radio calls for suspicious incidents at "Farm Boy” at 841 Brown's Line.

It is alleged that:

- a man was using his cell phone to take "upskirt" photographs of women inside the store

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, officers from 22 Division arrested Michael Tracey, 29, of Toronto. He is charged with:

1) three counts of Voyeurism
2) two counts of Criminal Harassment – Watch or Beset

He was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, June 28, 2018.

Police are concerned there may be other victims.
