Man, 34, charged in Arson investigation, Yonge Street and Belsize Drive area

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in an Arson investigation.

On Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at 12:29 a.m., officers responded to a call for a fire in the Yonge Street and Belsize Drive area.

It is alleged that:

- a man made threats to cause a fire and harm some pets

- he set fire to the apartment, causing the death of some pets

- he then barricaded himself inside the apartment

Bradley Oliver, 34, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Arson Having Disregard for Human Life
2) Arson Causing Property Damage
3) Uttering Threats to Cause Property Damage
4) Uttering Threats to Harm Animals
5) Kill, Maim or Wound Animals
6) Mischief Over $5000
7) Assault

He is scheduled to appear in court at College Park on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, 2 p.m., room 501.

On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, Detective Sergeant Mike Carbone updated the media on the investigation into Homicide #11/2018.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday March 10, 2018, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Dwayne Anthony Vidal was returning home

- he parked his vehicle in a parking lot near his home

- he exited his vehicle and started walking toward the front door of his home

- as he was walking, a man approached from the opposite direction and, as he was passing, he pointed a firearm and began shooting

- the man then ran toward Silverstone Drive and continued running north

It is further reported that:

- police reviewed video footage from the area and are releasing security camera images of a man wearing all-black clothing entering the townhouse complex several minutes prior to the shooting

- after the shooting, this man is seen running away and entering a white vehicle parked a short distance away.

It is reported that:

- a woman, 32, was driving a Toyota Corolla eastbound on Dundas Street West, west of Huron Street

- a woman, 73, was attempting to cross Dundas Street West, west of Huron Street

- the woman, 73, was struck by the vehicle as she attempted to cross the road

The woman was taken to hospital.

The Toronto Police Service is seeking assistance identifying a man wanted in a Robbery investigation.

On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at 9:24 p.m., officers responded to a call for a robbery in a department store in the Yonge Street and Queen Street West area.

It is reported that:

- on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, a man entered the store

- he was looking at merchandise in the watch section

- he returned on Wednesday, March 7, 2018

- he asked a sales associate to look at a Rolex watch

- he put the watch on then fled the store

- the watch is valued at over $15,000

Marijuana dispensary search warrant executed, 202 Spadina Avenue, Six people facing charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of arrests in a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation.

On Monday, March 12, 2018, at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at the 1 Tonamara Dispensary at 202 Spadina Avenue.

It is alleged that the following was seized during the execution of the search warrant:

- 76.14 grams of shatter
- 97.41 grams of Hashish
- 2400 grams (2.4kg) of loose marijuana
- 13,400 grams (13.4kg) of marijuana-derived products
- $ 5880.30 Canadian currency
- $ 405.00 U.S. currency

Courtney Campbell, 51, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance
3) Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over


Tomasz Nowicki, 44 , of Oakville, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance
3) Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over


Edward Cho, 44, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance
3) Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over


Cary Cleyndert, 35, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
2) three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance
3) Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over


Rechelle Berlin, 26, of Toronto, was arrested. She is charged with:

1) three counts of Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

3) Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over


Lynda Pineda, 23, of Toronto, was arrested. She is charged with:

They are all scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Monday, April 23, 2018, 9 a.m., room 114.

Public Safety Alert, Within area of Avenue Road, Bathurst Street, Lawrence Avenue West and Eglinton Avenue West, Residential nighttime Break-and-Enters

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a recent series of Break-and-Enters within the area of Avenue Road, Bathurst Street, Lawrence Avenue West and Eglinton Avenue West.

Between Wednesday, March 7, 2018 and Monday, March 12, 2018, a total of four overnight residential Break-and-Enters occurred, one in 13 Division and three in 53 Division. All four entries are in close proximity to each other, and appear similar in nature.

With all four incidents, it appears the suspects surveilled the addresses prior to attempting to break in. Furthermore, in all four entries the suspects attempted to gain or subsequently gained entry via the rear backyard door, or front door, to the residence. The time of the entries has ranged from late evening to as early as 5 a.m.

Residents are requested to be vigilant. The Toronto Police Service is asking residents to immediately report to police any activity they deem suspicious.

Residents should ensure that entry points to their premises are secured overnight, that security system alarms are activated if installed, and that interior/exterior lights are activated appropriately to deter future incidents.

Residents are encouraged to contact the 53 Division Crime Prevention Office at 416-808-5319 for crime-prevention strategies.

Jesse Larabee, 29, was last seen on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at 11:15 p.m., in the Evans Avenue and Royal York Road area.

He is described as 5’7”, 181 lbs., brown eyes, long straight brown hair. He was wearing a dark-brown camouflage jacket, black toque, carrying a carry-on style suitcase or bag.

Two men arrested in "Subway Bandit" investigation, Toronto and Peel Robbery series, Face total of 57 charges

Toronto Police Service Hold Up and the Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau would like to make the public aware of two arrests in a series of 16 retail robberies, nine in the west end of Toronto and seven in Peel Region.

It is alleged that:

- between Sunday, February 18, 2018 and Tuesday, March 13, 2018, 16 fast-food retail premises were robbed

- the main target of the robberies were retail locations of the Subway sandwich chain

- the man entered the premises disguising his identity with his hood tied close around his face and glasses

- in some instances, he initially posed as a customer, asking to purchase an item

- he then made a demand for cash, put his hand inside his pocket, then displayed a handgun

- at times, he also walked behind the counter, removing money from the till

It is further alleged that:

- on three occasions, a second man accompanied the first one in committing the robberies

- on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, both robbery units led a joint investigation and, with the assistance of Divisional officers. an arrest was made

- officers located a replica firearm during the takedown.

Egal Wais, 21, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) 16 counts of Robbery
2) Conspiracy to commit robbery
3) 16 counts of Use imitation firearm to commit indictable offence
4) 16 counts of Disguise with intent


Yosef Ali, 24, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) three counts of Robbery
2) Conspiracy to commit robbery
3) three counts of Use imitation firearm to commit indictable offence
4) Disguise with intent

Both men are scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, April 19, 2018, 2 p.m., room 202.

March is Fraud Prevention Month. The philosophy is for Canadians to recognize, reject and report Fraud, and reduce Fraud by increasing fraud awareness. Fraud Prevention Month is spearheaded by the Competition Bureau of Canada. #fraudchat is running a four-week series during Fraud Prevention Month.

Week 2: Investment Scams

On Thursday, March 15, 2018, at 8 p.m., we will be joined by our special guests, Ontario Securities Commission and Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, to answer questions regarding investment scams. Members of the public can follow along using the hashtags @smarter_money and @canantifraud on Twitter.

To follow #fraudchat, members of the public simply need to log on to Twitter from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST and follow the #fraudchat hashtag. An application such as Tweetdeck, which allows users to separately view tweets containing this hashtag, is also helpful in following the chat.

#fraudchat is an online Twitter program that seeks to educate and exchange ideas with the public about financial crimes and fraud. The moderator for this program is Gail Regan (@ReganFCU) of TPS Financial Crimes.

Man wanted, Majid Mehar, 35, Considered dangerous, Photographs of man and his vehicle released

The Toronto Police Service would like to advise the public of a wanted man considered to be dangerous.

It is alleged that:

- during the late-evening hours of Wednesday, March 14, 2018, a man attended a friend's home in the 401 and Port Union Road area

- while at the home, the man got into an argument and damaged the vehicle and the garage door of the homeowner

- the man was driving a stolen 2010, four-door brown Honda Civic, with Ontario licence plate BBPD-789

- a few hours later, in the early morning of Thursday, March 15, 2018, police responded to a Break-and-Enter in progress at an apartment building in the Sheppard Avenue East and Birchmount Road area

- police located the man near the building and a foot pursuit took place

- the man got into his stolen vehicle, rammed a parked police car and fled

- the man was driving at a high rate of speed and was not pursued by police

The man has been identified as Majid Mehar, 35, of Toronto. He is wanted for:

1) Possession Property Obtained by Crime
2) Mischief Over $5000.00
3) two counts of Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident
4) three counts of Fail to Comply Recognizance
5) two counts of Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
6) four counts of Driving While Disqualified

Police are concerned about his actions in the last 24 hours and are concerned for anyone who may come in contact with him. If you see him, or the stolen vehicle, please call 9-1-1. Do not approach him.

He is described as 5'9", 150-160 lbs., very short black hair, long beard. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, dark army pants.

It is believed that the stolen vehicle will have damage to the front end from the collision with the parked police car.

Public Safety Alert, Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue area, Street robberies, Update, Six Young Persons arrested

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public on arrests in the recent series of street robberies within a one-km. radius of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at 2 p.m., a robbery took place in the Yonge and Eglinton Centre.

It is alleged that:

- a 14-year-old boy was walking into the mall through the Orchard View Boulevard entrance

- a group of six boys called out to the boy as he was walking

- the boy walked back to the group, and the group made demands for his personal property

- one of the boys produced a knife and physically attacked the boy

- the boy's jacket was taken and they fled


On Thursday, February 1, 2018, a 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged with:

1) Robbery with an offensive weapon

The boy was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street on Thursday, March 15, 2018, 9 a.m.


On Monday, February 5, 2018, at 1:40 p.m., a robbery occurred inside the Yonge Eglinton Centre.

It is alleged that:

- a 14-year-old boy was inside the mall

- two boys suddenly grabbed the boy from behind and pulled him around a corner

- one of the boys demanded personal property, while the other stood as a lookout

- a security guard walked by, and interrupted the attack

- the two boys fled the area

- a quantity of cash was taken

On Wednesday, February 7, 2018, a 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged with:

1) Robbery

The boy is scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street on Monday, March 19, 2018, 9 a.m.


On Thursday, February 8, 2018, at 4 p.m., a robbery occurred inside the Yonge Eglinton Centre.

It is alleged that:

- a 14-year-old boy was inside the mall, selling tickets to a school event

- a group of six boys followed the boy through the mall

- the boy entered a store in the mall, and two boys from the group approached him

- the boy was physically threatened and they made demands for his personal property

- the other boys stood as lookouts

- the boy's backpack, cash and cellphone were stolen


Between Tuesday, February 27, 2018, and Sunday, March 11, 2018, three boys, a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds, were arrested. They are charged with:

1) Robbery
2) Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

The boys appeared in court at 311 Jarvis Street on various dates between Wednesday, February 28, 2018 and Sunday, March 11, 2018, at 9 a.m.


On Friday, February 23, 2018, at 11:57 p.m., a robbery occurred in the middle of the Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue intersection.

It is alleged that:

- three boys and a girl were walking through the Yonge Eglinton Centre

- a group of boys followed the three boys and girl as they proceeded through the mall

- when they walked out onto the sidewalk at the intersection of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue, the group of boys began to attack the boys and girl

- they made demands for their personal property, and one of the boy's shoes

- the attack was interrupted by two unknown Good Samaritans who were in the area

- a baseball hat was taken prior to the attack being interrupted

On Thursday, March 1, 2018, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with:

1) Robbery with violence
2) Possession of a schedule II substance

He was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street on Friday, March 2, 2018, 9 a.m.


None of those arrested can be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

There have been a total of six arrests and ten criminal charges laid, with several suspects still outstanding. There have been an additional four incidents of street robberies since the initial public safety alert released on Monday, February 26, 2018.

In the most recent robbery, on Thursday, March 8, 2018, a handgun was indicated and a knife was shown to the victims.

The incidents continue to be swarming-type robberies involving teenagers targeting other teenagers in which several suspects approach the victims and demand personal property. In all of these incidents, violent acts were committed or threatened.

The week of March Break runs from Saturday, March 10, 2018, to Sunday, March 18, 2018. Teenagers will be out in public more during this time. The Toronto Police Service is again requesting the public to be vigilant in the area of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue.

The Toronto Police Service is also requesting anyone who is a victim, or who witnesses this type of incident, to contact police as soon as practicable. Participation from the public is heavily encouraged as investigators are running into the issue of victims and/or witnesses unwilling to come forward to report incidents. Participation from these parties will greatly assist in the apprehension of suspects and prevention of further incidents.

Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant executed, Silverstone Drive and Furness Crescent area, Two people arrested, face total of 16 charges Firearm and ammunition seized

On Tuesday, March 13, 2018, members of the 23 Division Community Response Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant in the Silverstone Drive and Furness Crescent area.

It is alleged that:

- officers located a 9mm handgun and a quantity of ammunition

On Tuesday, March 13, 2018, Samuel Todd, 24, and Geeta Mylvaganam, 23, of Toronto, were arrested. They are both charged with:

1) Possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking
2) two counts of Traffic Cocaine
3) Unauthorized possession of a firearm
4) Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
5) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
