Homicide #39/2017, Anthony Soares, 33

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with a homicide investigation.

On Thursday, September, 14, 2017, at 2:54 a.m., police were called to the area of Kennedy Road and Glamorgan Avenue for a shooting.

It is alleged that:

- the victim got out of a car and walked into the lobby of a building

- he was approached by two suspects armed with handguns

- he was shot multiple times at close range

The victim was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

He has been identified as Anthony Soares, 33.

2017 Open Streets TO, Sunday, September 17, 2017, Road closures

On Sunday, September 17, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the City of Toronto will be hosting Open Streets TO.

Bloor Street, from Montrose Avenue to Sherbourne Street, and Yonge Street, from Bloor Street to Queen Street, will be closed to vehicle traffic. Motorists will be granted access across the road closure at key intersections.

Below are the designated crossing points associated with the road closures:

Bloor Street at Christie Street/Grace Street
Bloor Street at Bathurst Street
Bloor Street at Spadina Avenue
Bloor Street at Avenue Road
Bloor Street at Church Street
Bloor Street at Ted Rogers Way
Bloor Street at Sherbourne Street

Yonge Street at Wellesley Street
Yonge Street at College Street
Yonge Street at Gerrard Street
Yonge Street at Dundas Street
Yonge Street at Shuter Street
Yonge Street at Queen Street

Motorists can expect delays.

Missing man, Symington Avenue and Antler Street, Steven Lopez, 26

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Steven Lopez, 26, was last seen on Friday, September 15, 2017, at approximately 8 a.m., in the Symington Avenue and Antler Street area.

He is described as 5'7", stocky build, 180 lbs., and no facial hair. It is believed he was wearing a black tank top and pajama bottom pants.

He would likely be wearing a rosary bead necklace, blue in colour.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Police request assistance in personal injury collision #47/2017, Birchmount Road, north of Wintermute Boulevard

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at 2:28 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Birchmount Road, north of Wintermute Boulevard.

It is reported that:

- a woman, 62, was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry, northbound on Birchmount Road north of Wintermute Boulevard

- a man, 37, was driving a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, southbound on Birchmount Road north of Wintermute Boulevard

- for reasons not yet determined, the northbound Toyota crossed into the southbound lanes and the vehicles collided

The driver of the Toyota was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Industrial Accident, 290 Yonge Street

On Friday, September 15, 2017, police attended a call for an industrial accident at a construction site at 290 Yonge Street.

Police received information that a worker on the construction site had fallen from the second floor to the ground and suffered injuries.

The worker, a 34-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Toronto Police Service and the Ministry of Labour are investigating the death at this time.

A 35-year-old Toronto woman, Crystal Lynn Carter, is wanted by 14 Division.

She is wanted on several Warrants for:

1) thirteen counts of Break-and-Enter with Intent
2) four counts of Possess Break-and-Enter Instrument
3) three counts of Possession Schedule I Substance
4) eight counts of Fail to Comply Recognizance
5) Possession Property Obtained by Crime
6) two counts of Obstruct Peace Officer
7) two counts of Fail to Attend Court
8) sixteen counts of Mischief
9) three counts of Theft Under $5000
10) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under

She is described as 5'8", 125 lbs., black hair, brown eyes.

Police warn that she is considered violent. If located, do not approach. Call 9-1-1 immediately.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a recent Assault in the Lake Shore Boulevard West and Thirteenth Street area.

It is reported that:

- on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at approximately 11 p.m., a 21-year-old woman was walking along Thirteenth Street when she was attacked by an unknown man

- the woman was able to fight off the man and escape

The man is described as black, approximately 30, 6’, medium build, wearing a black hoodie, dark jeans, red basketball shoes with a white Nike logo.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance with a homicide investigation.

On Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 8:53 p.m., police were called to the Adelaide Street West and Simcoe Street area for a shooting.

It is reported that:

- a man, 54, was in a restaurant when another man shot him

- the suspect fled the area immediately after in a light-coloured SUV, last seen westbound on Pearl Street

The victim was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

He has been identified as Simon Giannini, 54 of Toronto.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today.

Public Safety Alert, Man wanted in Sexual Assault investigation, St. George subway station, Security camera images of man released

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a Sexual Assault investigation into an incident at St. George subway station.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at approximately 11:50 a.m., a woman was walking up the stairs from the east/westbound train level to the north/southbound train level

- a man walked up behind the woman and sexually assaulted her

- when the woman verbally challenged the man about his actions, he responded with profanities and continued up the stairs

- he fled in an unknown direction

The man is described as 5'6"-5'9", tanned complexion, late 20s-30s, average build, facial hair. He was wearing a light-blue T-shirt, (with, it is believed, the words “Cali 73” on front), faded blue jeans, dark shoes with white soles, carrying a pink bag.

Security camera images of the man are released.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance with a homicide investigation.

On Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 1:24 a.m., police were called to the Gerrard Street East and River Street area for a shooting.

It is reported that:

- a man, 54, was located by police in medical distress

- a second man, 57, was located a short distance away, also in medical distress

The man, 54, was pronounced at the scene.

He has been identified as Everone Paul Mitchell, 54, of Toronto.

The second man, 57, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rush-hour route enforcement campaign, Monday, September 18, 2017 to Friday, September 22, 2017

The enforcement of the city's rush-hour routes and other traffic and parking offences continues to be a priority for the Toronto Police Service.

On Monday, September 18, 2017, the Service will launch a heightened rush-hour route enforcement campaign with a focus on traffic congestion and gridlock in the downtown core.

There will be zero tolerance for vehicles found blocking and congesting rush-hour routes.

The campaign will start on Monday, September 18, 2017, with the enforcement of the morning rush-hour routes, and will conclude on Friday, September 22, 2017.

Parking Enforcement Officers and police officers from Traffic Services will be saturating the downtown core to tackle gridlock by ticketing and towing vehicles obstructing the rush-hour routes. All other rush-hour routes in the city will have heightened enforcement.

Since January 1, 2017, Toronto Police Service Parking Enforcement has issued 57,025 parking infractions and towed 11,884 vehicles from the city's rush-hour routes.

Homicide #18/2017, Leonard Pinnock, 33, Media advisory, Monday, September 18, 2017, 10:30 a.m., Headquarters, media gallery, News conference

On Monday, September 18, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, Detective Sergeant Joyce Schertzer will update the media on the investigation into Homicide #18/2017.

The news conference will be available on TOC and will be live-streamed.

On Friday, April 21, 2017, at 9:30 p.m., police were called to the Dufferin Street and Bowie Avenue area for a sound of gunshots.

Emergency personnel arrived and found a man with apparent injuries. He was pronounced at the scene.

It is reported that:

- the victim, who has been identified as Leonard Pinnock, 33, of Hamilton, was sitting in his car waiting for a friend

- he was shot by an unknown person while still in his vehicle

- several suspects were seen fleeing the area

Residents in the area of Caledonia Road to the west, Dufferin Street to the east, Eglinton Avenue to the south and Castlefield Avenue to the north are asked to check their backyards for any discarded items that do not belong to them, for example, keys, cell phones, or any item that might typically be carried in a pocket.

Further, anyone who might have home security video or dash-cam video of the incident, or any suspects, is asked to contact police.
