The sixth annual "So You Think You Can DJ" finale will take place on Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., at Brebeuf College School, 211 Steeles Avenue East. Local DJ Joseph Khargie is the founder of this event, which teaches math through music to students of all ages. This year six high schools will battle for the top spot.

This event consists of the following high schools: West Hill Collegiate Institute, Cedarbrae Collegiate Institute, Sir Wilfrid Laurier Collegiate Institute, Central Peel Secondary School, Chinguacousy Secondary School, Brebeuf College School.

The following awards will be presented:

Pioneer DJ of the Year: A dedicated and talented student who goes beyond the call of mixing.

SUBPAC SHSM award: This award is for a Brebeuf College School Special High Skills Major (SHSM) student who exemplifies the drive to succeed in their career path.

Skullcandy BBASS Mentorship Award: Top-four high school mentors in the Big Brothers and Sisters Spin (BBASS) DJ club.

DJ Depot Rising Star Awards: Top-four Jr. students who demonstrated perseverance throughout the Big Brothers and Sisters Spin (BBASS) DJ club.

There will be a special guest appearance by DJ Sergeant Chris Gordon from the Toronto Police Service.

Missing woman located, Broadview Avenue and Gerrard Street East area, My Lan Ho, 54

Personal injury collision #27/2017, Bayview Avenue at Burleigh Heights Drive

On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 9:51 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Bayview Avenue and Burleigh Heights Drive.

It is reported that:

- two women, 18, were attempting to cross Bayview Avenue at Burleigh Heights Drive

- a woman, 42, was driving a Volkswagen Passat, southbound on Bayview Avenue, approaching Burleigh Heights Drive

- the two 18-year-old women were struck by the vehicle as they attempted to cross the road

One 18-year-old woman received life-threatening injuries, the other 18-year-old woman received non-life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to hospital.

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance locating a missing man.

Harrison Mantalas, 35, was last seen on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at 12:20 p.m., in the Spadina Avenue and College Street area.

He is described as 5’9", 190 lbs., brown eyes, large build, with short, brown, curly hair with a bald spot. There are no clothing descriptions at this time.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Personal injury collision #28/2017, Ellesmere Road and Conlins Road

On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 3:40 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Ellesmere Road and Conlins Road.

It is reported that:

- a woman, 19, was riding a bicycle northbound on Conlins Road, approaching Ellesmere Road

- a man, 36, was driving a 2006 Jeep westbound on Ellesmere Road, approaching Conlins Road

- the cyclist and vehicle collided in the intersection

The 19-year-old woman received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

Media advisory, Thursday, June 1, 2017, 1 p.m., Headquarters, media gallery, News conference, Results of four major Gun & Gang Task Force and Drug Squad projects

On Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 1 p.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, Gun and Gang Task Force Inspector Peter Moreira and Drug Squad Acting Inspector Steve Watts will update the media on the results of four major projects so far in 2017.

Projects Aqua, Panda, Gallo and Drizzle resulted in the seizure of more than 20 firearms including assault rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, motor vehicles, $3.2 million in cash, 115 kilograms of cocaine, 44 kilograms of MDMA, 3.5 kilograms of heroin, one kilogram of fentanyl, 112 kilograms of marijuana, 11 kilograms of hashish and 1 kilogram of opium.

Investigators will be displaying some of the seized property.

The news conference will be available on TOC and will be live-streamed.

Man, 74, faces Child Pornography charges, Hwy 427 and Rathburn Road area

On Thursday, May 25, 2017, as part of an investigation into the possession of child sex abuse images, members of the TPS Sex Crimes Child Exploitation Section executed a Criminal Code search warrant in the Hwy 427 and Rathburn Road area.

It is alleged that:

- a man possessed and made child pornography-related material

- the man possessed the material at his residence

Richard Schenck, 74, of Toronto, has been arrested. He is charged with:

1) Possession Child Pornography
2) Make Child Pornography

He was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Friday, May 25, 2017.

Assistance sought identifying man wanted in Sexual Assault investigation, Update, Alaa Abdel Farrag, 58, wanted for Sexual Assault

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance locating a man wanted in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at approximately 9 a.m., a woman was on a TTC bus in the Bathurst Street and Dundas Street West area

- the man wanted in this incident has now been identified as Alaa Abdel Farrag, 58, of Toronto. He is wanted for:

1) Sexual Assault

Lee Moir, 39, arrested for Possession of Child Pornography, Eglinton Avenue East and Birchmount Road area, Man's photograph released

On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, as part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of child sex abuse images, members of the TPS Child Exploitation Section executed a Criminal Code search warrant in the Eglinton Avenue East and Birchmount Road area.

It is alleged that:

- during the execution of the search warrant, officers located a quantity of images and videos of children being sexually abused

Lee Moir, 39, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) two counts of Possession of Child Pornography
2) Access Child Pornography
3) Make Available Child Pornography

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, 2 p.m, courtroom 412.

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance locating a missing girl.

Joanna Duncan, 14, was last seen Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 11:30 p.m., in the Pape Avenue and Dingwall Avenue area.

She is described as 5'8", with long, thick, black hair, earrings, heart-shaped birthmark on the side of her knee. She was last seen wearing light-blue jeans ripped in the thigh area, a black Nike sweater and blue-and-black Nike Jordan running shoes.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Results of four major Gun & Gang Task Force and Drug Squad projects

Projects Aqua, Panda, Gallo and Drizzle resulted in the seizure of more than 20 firearms including assault rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, motor vehicles, $3.2 million in cash, 115 kilograms of cocaine, 44 kilograms of MDMA, 3.5 kilograms of heroin, one kilogram of fentanyl, 112 kilograms of marijuana, 11 kilograms of hashish and 1 kilogram of opium.

On Thursday, March 30, 2017, 11 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrants were simultaneously executed in Toronto and York Region, plus another on Friday, March 31, 2017, in Kitchener.

It is alleged that:

- individuals worked in a well-organized partnership trafficking large amounts of powder cocaine across the GTA and Kitchener using hidden compartments in their vehicles

It is further alleged that the following was seized by investigators:

• .38 calibre revolver and ammunition
• 41 kilograms of cocaine
• Cocaine press plates
• $324,195 in cash – Canadian currency
• two motor vehicles

Michele Spataro, 69, of Thornhill, was arrested and charged with:

1. Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
2. two counts of Possession of Proceeds of Crime

He is next scheduled for court at Old City Hall on Thursday, June 1, 2017, 9 a.m., room 114.


Carlos Silva, 33, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with:

1. three counts of Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking

On Thursday May 25, 2017, 13 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrants were simultaneously executed in Toronto and the GTA.

It is alleged that:

- individuals worked in a well-organized partnership trafficking large amounts of powder cocaine and MDMA and assorted controlled substances across Toronto and the GTA using hidden compartments in their vehicles

It is further alleged that this was seized by investigators:

• over 78 kilograms of powder cocaine
• 44 kilograms of MDMA
• 3.5 kilograms of Heroin
• 1 kilogram of Fentanyl
• 1 kilogram of Opium
• 112 kilograms of Marihuana
• 11 kilograms of Hashish
• assorted smaller amounts of controlled substances
• 272 kilograms of Phenacetin
• 100 kilograms of Procaine
• 50 kilograms of Benzocaine
• over $2.9 million in Canadian currency
• additional property
• 12 firearms with assorted ammunition


Tommy Phan, 21, of Vaughan, was arrested and charged with:

On Tuesday, May 23, 2017 members of the Toronto Police Service’s Integrated Gun & Gang Task Force concluded an investigation into a male suspected of trafficking in narcotics and in possession of a firearm.

Raian Naidoo, 33, of Toronto, was arrested in the Legion Road North and Manitoba Street area

It is alleged that:

- he was arrested by police while in possession of a loaded Glock handgun equipped with a laser site

- he was also in possession of an additional box of handgun ammunition on his person

A search warrant was executed on his residence and it is further alleged that the following was seized:

- a second loaded Glock handgun
- hundreds of additional rounds of firearm ammunition
- in excess of three kilograms of cocaine with an approximate street value of close to $200,000
- a cocaine press, along with paraphernalia used for cocaine trafficking
- $5000 in Proceeds of Crime


Raian Naidoo, 33, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. two counts of Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition 95(1) cc
2. two counts of Unauthorized possession of firearm 91(1) cc

Jason Ledo, 39, was last seen on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at approximately 12:30 p.m., in the Judson Street and Islington Avenue area.

He is described as brown eyes, black balding hair, wears glasses, last seen wearing black running shoes, blue-and-white plaid shorts, beige-and-white striped shirt, carrying a black duffle-style bag. He speaks with a stutter.

He was seen on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at approximately 11:10 p.m., on TTC security cameras at St. Clair subway station, on the southbound platform.

Man, 23, charged in home-invasion Robbery, Bloor Street East and Sherbourne Street area, Faces 16 charges, Images of seized firearms released

Toronto Police Service Hold Up would like to make the public aware of a man arrested for a violent home-invasion Robbery in the Bloor Street East and Sherbourne Street area.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, May 14, 2017, a man forced his way into an apartment, armed with a handgun

- the man demanded money

- he then subdued the 48-year-old woman and pistol-whipped her over the head several times

- the man proceeded to take one of her puppies and made good his escape

- the victim sustained minor cuts to her head

- an investigation conducted by members of Hold Up resulted in the identification of the male suspect

A search warrant was obtained and, on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, with the assistance of the TPS Drug Squad and Emergency Task Force, the man was arrested and a search warrant was executed.

It is further alleged that:

- during the arrest, a loaded Browning 9mm handgun and .38 Special snub nose revolver belonging to the accused were seized

- a large quantity of heroin and cocaine were seized.

Samuel Elvira, 23, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) Robbery while Armed with a Firearm
2) two counts of Fail to Comply Recognizance
3) Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
4) Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
5) Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle
6) Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
7) Careless Storage of Firearm
8) Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
9) six counts of Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

Sunday June 4, 2017, Ride for Heart, Road closures

On Sunday, June 4, 2017, the annual "Ride for Heart" will take place.

At 2 a.m., the Don Valley Parkway will be completely closed from the Gardiner Expressway to York Mills Road, and the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from South Kingsway to the Don Valley Parkway. There will also be road closures in the area surrounding Exhibition Place.

Due to the extensive road closures, motorists can expect significant delays in the downtown core, particularly on arterial roadways. Public transportation is strongly recommended.

All roadways are scheduled to be reopened by approximately 3 p.m.

On Saturday, June 3, 2017, the 2017 Dundas West Fest street festival will take place.

Road closures will be in place for all or part of the day.

The street festival will take place on:

- Dundas Street West, from Lansdowne Avenue to Ossington Avenue, from 8 a.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday, full road closure

- northbound and southbound traffic only will be allowed through at Lansdowne Avenue, Brock Avenue, Dufferin Street, Dovercourt Road, and Ossington Avenue.

The festival will conclude at approximately 10 p.m., but the roads will remain closed until 2 a.m.

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should consider alternate methods of transportation.

The TTC may experience delays.

The festival will take place regardless of weather conditions.
