Man, 22, arrested, firearm seized, Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East area, Faces nine charges, Photograph of firearm released

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, with the assistance of the Emergency Task Force, officers from 54 Division Major Crime executed a Criminal Code search warrant at an address in the Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East area.

It is alleged that:

- during the search of the residence, officers located a loaded .357 Magnum firearm belonging to the suspect

Treyvond Dorma, 22, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Possession of a Restricted Firearm
2) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
3) Careless Storage of a Firearm
4) Possession of a Loaded Restricted Firearm
5) Possession of a Firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
6) Possession of a Firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered with
7) Careless storage of a Firearm
8) Three counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance
9) Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime

He was scheduled to appear in court at College Park on Friday, May 12, 2017, 10 a.m., room 507.

Man, 20, arrested in TTC “stink bomb” investigation

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in a Mischief investigation.

...

On Friday, April 7, 2017, officers responded to a call for an Unknown Trouble at St George subway station.

It is alleged that:

- a man tossed a "stink bomb" onto the southbound subway train as it was departing

- smoke filled the subway train causing panic and fear amongst the passengers

- a full emergency response was initiated, including firefighters, police and paramedics

- the subway was shut down for 56 minutes during rush hour

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, Thomas Laforme, 20, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Mischief - Interfere with Property

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Friday, May 12, 2017, 10 a.m., room 101.

Missing boy, Varna Drive and Ranee Avenue area, Basil Mohamed, 17

Basil Mohamed, 17, was last seen on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 3:30 a.m., in the Varna Drive and Ranee Avenue area.

He is described as 5'6", thin build, with short, black hair and a slight moustache. He was last seen wearing a grey sweater, brown shoes and dark-blue sweatpants.

Jie Jiao, 57, faces two charges in Break-and-Enter investigation, Don Mills Road and Cliffwood Road area

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in an ongoing Break-and-Enter investigation.

On Monday, May 8, 2017, officers responded to reports of a Break-and-Enter in the Don Mills Road and Cliffwood Road area.

It is alleged that:

- a person had left their apartment

- a man entered the apartment and went through the person's belongings

- the man was captured on security cameras

On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, Jie Jiao, 57, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Break and Enter and Commit
2) Mischief - Interfere with Lawful Enjoyment of Property

He is the landlord of the building in which the person lives.

Sara Gentile, 15, was last seen on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at approximately 8:30 a.m., in the Lauder Avenue and Rogers Road area.

She is described as 5’2”, 130 lbs., with long, reddish, waist-length hair. She was last seen wearing blue pants, white school shirt, green bomber-style jacket.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Sunday, May 14, 2017, 21st Annual Sporting Life 10K Run, Road closures

On Sunday, May 14, 2017, the 21st Annual Sporting Life 10K Run will take place. The organizers of this event are expecting approximately 27,000 runners.

The run will start forming up on Yonge Street at approximately 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., and will proceed over the following route:

Road closures at the formation Area will start at 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

Formation area will be Yonge Street, Lawrence Avenue to Broadway Avenue and the running route will be:

South Yonge Street
West Richmond Street
South Peter Street
West Front Street
South Bathurst Street
West Fort York Boulevard

Finish Line: Fort York Boulevard

Road closures at the finish line will start at 5 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from:
Fort York Boulevard from Bathurst Street to Lakeshore Boulevard.

Road closures – Race Route – starts at 7 a.m.:

- Yonge Street from Eglinton Avenue to King Street
- Richmond Street West from Yonge Street to Peter Street
- Peter Street from Richmond Street West to Front Street
- Front Street from Peter Street to Bathurst Street
- Bathurst Street from King Street to Lake Shore Boulevard West
- Fort York Boulevard from Bathurst Street to Lake Shore Boulevard West
- Fleet Street from Strachan Avenue to Fort York Boulevard

TTC – Diversion Route

During the run, there will be no access to Eglinton subway station and Davisville subway station from the east.

As part of this run, the Yonge Street 97-320 buses will be diverted.

During the Formation Area set-up, 4:30 a.m., to 6:15 a.m., buses operating on Yonge Street will be diverted in both directions using the following streets:

Northbound:
- North on Yonge Street
- West on Berwick Avenue
- North Duplex Avenue to Eglinton Station
- West on Eglinton Avenue West
- North on Avenue Road
- East on Lawrence Avenue West
- North on Yonge Street

Southbound:
- South on Yonge Street
- West on Lawrence Avenue
- South on Avenue Road
- South Duplex Avenue to Eglinton Station
- Eglinton Avenue exit onto Berwick Avenue
- South on Yonge Street

At 6:15 a.m., Yonge Street will be closed to all traffic between Adelaide Street and Eglinton Avenue. During this time, buses operating on Yonge Street will be diverted in both directions using the following streets:

Northbound:
- North Yonge Street
- East Adelaide Street East
- North Jarvis Street
- North Mount Pleasant Road
- West Lawrence Avenue East
- North Yonge Street

Southbound:
- South Yonge Street
- East Lawrence Avenue East
- South Mount Pleasant Road
- South Jarvis Street
- West Front Street East
- West Wellington Street East
- South Yonge Street

During the race, and until Yonge Street and access to Davisville station is reopened, the 97 Yonge route will turn back at Lawrence station.

The Toronto Police Service, 53 Division, 75 Eglinton Avenue West, is hosting their annual Open House on Saturday, May 13, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is going to showcase many of the Toronto Police Service Special Units, which include the Marine Unit, the Mounted Unit, the Emergency Task Force, Police Dog Services, Court Services, and more!

There wills a kids' area with games, face-painting, colouring contest, plus a 1 p.m. special performance by Markus (as seen on Treehouse TV).

There are going to be station tours, police displays, forensic displays, plus vintage police cars. The public can enjoy a police BBQ while participating in the event.

Come out, meet your local police officers, and learn about the daily work of the Toronto Police Service.

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, between noon and 3 p.m., 42 Division will be hosting an Open House to kick off Ontario Police Week.

Local residents are invited to come to 42 Division, 242 Milner Avenue, and meet the officers at the station. The Toronto Police Service K-9 unit, the Mounted unit, as well as several police vehicles and units will be on display for community members to meet and interact with. There will also be station tours which will include free hot dogs, (while supplies last), an Electronic Child Fingerprinting both, a media room with information tables, videos, and the Accident Awareness Crash Car.

Committed to ensuring a strong and positive relationship between police and the community, police services across Ontario are connecting with their communities through social media, station visits and other forms of engagement, in an effort to better communicate with citizens while promoting friendly relations.

Man, 23, facing 12 charges including two counts of Assault Peace Officer and Threaten to use Weapon

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, a man was arrested following an investigation by members of TPS Hold Up.

It is alleged that:

- on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at approximately 3:10 p.m., a man was observed on the west side of Warden Avenue

- at this time, the man was observed by members of Hold Up running eastbound across Warden Avenue toward the parking area of 787 Warden Avenue

- the man ran across five lanes of live traffic, causing several vehicles, including that being driven by the officers, to come to a sudden stop

- he was observed by the officers carrying a medium-size, black duffel bag and looking behind him while running forward

- officers turned their vehicle around and approached the man who was at the rear of the parking area

- they remained in their vehicle and verbally identified themselves as police officers to the man

- upon hearing the word "police," the man dropped the duffel bag to the ground and ran toward the street in a westbound direction

- officers pursued the man on foot, while the man changed directions several times in an effort to escape police but was eventually cornered in the area of a nearby truck port

- the man turned to face the officers and produced a six-inch Benchmark knife that opened with the jerking motion of one hand

- the man held the opened knife in his right hand and pointed it in the direction of the officers

- officers continued a dialogue with the man for several minutes

- he eventually dropped the knife to the ground which allowed officers to make the arrest

- officers located the black duffel bag nearby

- it contained several tools and hardware items stolen from Lowe's Home Improvement at 800 Warden Avenue

Ivan Konstantinovskiy, 23, of Thornhill, was arrested and charged with:

1) Theft Under
2) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under
3) two counts of Assault Peace Officer and Threaten to use Weapon
4) three counts of Breach of Probation
5) Carry Concealed Weapon
6) Possess Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace
7) two counts of Possess Weapon While Prohibited
8) Possess Weapon While Prohibited

He appeared in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East, on Friday, May 12, 2017, 10 a.m.

One man arrested in drug investigation, McNicoll Avenue and Victoria Park Avenue area, Jason Teed, 28, of Toronto, wanted, Man's photograph released

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a drug investigation and an outstanding man.

On Wednesday, May 10, 2017, the 33 Division Street Violence Task Force executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrant in the McNicoll Avenue and Victoria Park Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- officers located what appeared to be a processing warehouse for edible cannabis products

- officers seized large quantities of marijuana and cannabis resin

It is further alleged that:

- a man was in a motor vehicle in the Denison Street and Woodbine Avenue area

- a large quantity of finished edible cannabis products was located in the motor vehicle

- these products included canned soda drinks, cannabis-infused dried tea leafs and pure cannabis resin

Jonathan Hlibka, 41, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) two counts of Possess Schedule II Substance for Trafficking
2) Unlawfully Produce Schedule II Substance

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Friday, May 12, 2017, 10 a.m., room 103.

Jason Teed, 28, of Toronto, is wanted for:

1) Possess Schedule II Substance for Trafficking
2) Unlawfully Produce Schedule II Substance

His photograph has been released.

Jewellery store robbery investigation, One man arrested, faces nine charges, Two men wanted

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest and two men wanted in a hold-up investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Friday, February 3, 2017, a jewellery store was robbed in the Queen Street West and Dufferin Street area

- the victim locked up the shop and walked through the rear alley to his vehicle where he was accosted by three men armed with a handgun

- the victim was robbed of his personal property and pistol-whipped several times in the face, head and forced into his vehicle

- a concerned passerby witnessed this robbery and attempted to intervene

- the second victim was also assaulted and robbed by this group and forced into the rear of the first victim's vehicle

- both victims were held captive in the vehicle and driven around while the suspects attempted to gain information from the first victim

- one of the suspects placed a handgun to the victim's head and threatened him

- the suspects returned to the jewellery store and attempted to gain entry to the store but were unsuccessful

- the victims were able to free themselves, escaped from the motor vehicle, and contacted police

The first victim was treated for a fractured nose, the second victim received several stitches to his face.

Toronto Police Service Hold Up investigated the robbery and identified two suspects.

On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, Luther Monroe, 33, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) two counts of Robbery while Armed with Firearm
2) two counts of Forcible Confinement
3) two counts of Assault with a Weapon
4) two counts of Assault case bodily harm
5) Fail to Comply Probation

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, 10 a.m., room 101.

Terry McKnight, 23, of Toronto, is wanted. His 2013 photograph has been released.

A third suspect is also outstanding and police are looking for information to assist with his identification.

Two men arrested in series of hold-ups, Toronto and Hamilton areas

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of two men arrested for three Toronto-area robberies. They have also been identified in four Hamilton robberies.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, April 30, 2017, two men entered a variety store in the Rathburn Road and The West Mall, disguised with balaclavas

- one of the men brandished a large knife and vaulted over the cash counter, making a demand for money

- the victim was also robbed of some personal property

- the second man emptied the cash tray into a bag and they both fled

- Hold Up investigators were able to identify the getaway vehicle

It is further alleged that:

- on Friday, April 28, 2017, both men attended a gas station in The Queensway and Park Lawn Road area

- the men had their faces concealed with black balaclavas

- one of the men approached both the victims while armed with a large knife, and made demands for cash

- the second man emptied the cash into a bag and both then fled to a vehicle

It is further alleged that:

- on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 two men entered a convenience store in the Albion Road and Martin Grove Road area, disguising their identity with balaclavas

- one of the men jumped the counter and held a large knife against the victim's chest while making demands for money

- the second man went behind the counter and filled up a bag with cash and other items from the counter area

On Monday, May 1, 2017, Gornes Gittens, 33, of Etobicoke, was arrested and charged with:

1) four counts of Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
2) four counts of Disguise with Intent
3) four counts of Possession of a Weapon

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Monday, May 15, 2017, 11:30 a.m., room 202.

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, Jerome Turner, 27, of Brampton, was arrested and charged with:

1) four counts of Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
2) four counts of Disguise with Intent
3) four counts of Possession of a Weapon
4) Forcible Confinement
5) two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Friday, May 26, 2017, 11:30 a.m., room 202.

It is understood the Hamilton Police Service will be charging these two men as well.

Missing man, Wicksteed Avenue and Brentcliffe Road area, Richard McKinnon, 77

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance locating a missing man.

Richard McKinnon, 77, was last seen on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 8:30 p.m., in the Wicksteed Avenue and Brentcliffe Road area.

He is described as 5’10", slim build, 161 lbs., with grey, short hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a tweed hat, black jacket, blue jeans, black shoes.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Man, 35, facing 51 charges in Arson investigation, 10 Glen Everest Road

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in an Arson investigation at 10 Glen Everest Road.

It is alleged that:

- a man would ignite various item in the stairwells at 10 Glen Everest Road

- the frequency of the fires has been increasing over the past six months

- on more than one occasion, the man has ignited items, dropping them into the garbage chute, causing the garbage and chute to ignite

- as a result of the accused’s actions, a total of 88 fire trucks and 291 fire personal had been dispatched to the address over the past few months

Toronto Police Service, along with Toronto Community Housing and Toronto Fire Services, worked together as part of this investigation

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, at approximately 2 a.m., Richard Joseph, 35, of Toronto, was arrested. He has been charged with:

1) 17 counts of Arson
2) 17 counts of Mischief
3) 16 counts of Breach of Probation
4) Common Nuisance

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, May 13, 2017, 10 a.m

Police Week in Ontario is an annual event dedicated to promoting crime prevention, recognition, and awareness of police services in the community. It is also an opportunity to commend current police officers for their dedication and commitment in keeping our communities safe.

Since 1970, Police Week has been observed in May to coincide with Peace Officers Memorial Day, recognized internationally on May 15.

This year Sunday, May 14, 2017 through Saturday, May 20, 2017 will be designated Police Week in Ontario. The theme for this year is "Working Together for Safer Communities." It supports a collaborative approach towards safer and healthier communities in Ontario, while also recognizing the important role of the police in helping to achieve that goal. Further, it celebrates the positive relationships between local police officers and their community.

On Monday, May 15, 2017, at 10 a.m., at police headquarters, 40 College Street, the Toronto Police Service will be kicking off Police Week with an open house. Various TPS units and officers will be on hand to demonstrate police equipment and answer questions from the public. The national anthem will be sung by 50 students from Church Street Public School to mark the start of Police Week.

Assistance sought identifying man wanted in Indecent Exposure investigation, College Street and Spadina Avenue area, Security camera mage of wanted man released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance identifying a man wanted in an Indecent Exposure investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a man was in the women's washroom of a hostel in the College Street and Spadina Avenue area

- a woman was showering in the washroom and when she exited the shower she observed the man committing an indecent act

The man is described as 30-40, olive complexion, medium-to-heavy build with short, brown, receding hair. He had marks or scars on his cheeks. He was wearing a black jacket with a light-blue shirt underneath and blue jeans. He possibly had a Spanish accent.

A security camera image of the man has been released.
