On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, 22 Division A/Inspector Joanne Rudnick will update the media on Project High Class, targeting residential Break-and-Enters, which led to eight arrests and the recovery of approximately $500,000 in property.

Approximately 100 pieces of the recovered property will be on display.

The news conference will be available on TOC and will be live-streamed.

Missing man, Coxwell Avenue and Mortimer Avenue area, Warren Vaillancourt, 34

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing man.

Warren Vaillancourt, 34, was last seen on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at approximately 2:45 p.m., in the Coxwell Avenue and Mortimer Avenue area.

He is described as white, 6’, slim-to-medium build, with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweater, with blue jeans, and a black San Jose Sharks baseball hat.

Police are concerned for his safety

Man, 27, arrested in convenience store Robbery investigation, Church Street and Wellesley Street East area, Faces six charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in a Robbery investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Saturday, December 24, 2016, a man armed with a box cutter knife entered a convenience store in the Church Street and Wellesley Street East area.

- he approached the 19-year-old male cashier and demanded money

- the cashier resisted and a fight ensued

- after a lengthy struggle, the cashier managed to overpower the accused and remove him from the store

- the accused fled the scene without obtaining anything

- the cashier received minor injuries as a result of being cut by the accused’s weapon

On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, Stefan Bovaconti, 27, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Robbery with an offensive weapon
2) Possession of a Weapon
3) Mischief Under
4) three counts of fail to comply with probation

He is scheduled to appear in court at College Park on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, 10 a.m.

Eight arrested, $500,000 worth of property recovered, in project targeting residential Break-and-Enters

The Toronto Police Service would like to advise the public of eight arrests arising from a residential Break-and-Enter investigation.

Officers were investigating an increased number of residential Break-and-Enters in the fall of 2016. Officers were engaged in Project High Class, which was developed to identify and capture those involved.

Project High Class included, but was not limited to, the geographic area within 22 Division. As the investigation progressed, officers became aware of the same type of occurrences in 11 Division and 43 Division.

It is alleged that:

- eight people were arrested after a residential Break-and-Enter in the Royal York Avenue and Eglinton Avenue West area

- multiple search warrants were executed and police recovered an estimated $500,000 worth jewelry, expensive handbags, cash, and electronics

- two vehicles that had been used in these Break-and-Enters were seized

The investigation is still ongoing, and it is alleged those arrested may have been engaged in Break-and-Enters across the Greater Toronto Area and in Montreal.

On Saturday, January 28, 2017, police made multiple arrests:

Sergio Vilo, 63, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) 11 counts of Break-and-Enter Commit
2) four counts of Break-and-Enter with Intent
3) six counts of Attempt Break-and-Enter
4) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over
5) Possession of Burglar Tools


An 18-year-old man, of Toronto, who was a Young Person at the time of the alleged offences, was charged with:

1) five counts of Break-and-Enter Commit
2) four counts of Attempt Break-and-Enter
3) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over
4) Possession of Burglar Tools


Diego Fuenzalida, 24, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) 11 counts of Break-and-Enter Commit
2) four counts of Break-and-Enter with Intent
3) six counts of Attempt Break-and-Enter
4) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over
5) Possession of Burglar Tools


Gabriel Pena Gutierrez 39, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) 11 counts of Break-and-Enter Commit
2) four counts of Break-and-Enter with Intent
3) six counts of Attempt Break-and-Enter
4) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over
5) Possession of Burglar Tools


Maria Pardo, 59, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over


Three people, a 54-year-old man, a 51-year-old woman, and a Young Person, all of Toronto,have been charged with:

1) Break-and-Enter Commit
2) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public on an ongoing Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation.

On Saturday, June 4, 2016, the Toronto Police Service Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force executed several Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants.

It is alleged that the execution of these search warrants led to the seizure of:

- 12 kilograms of cocaine

- two kilograms of heroin

- 3.6 kilograms of marijuana

- approximately $100,000 in Canadian currency

Richard Brewster, 35, of Toronto, was arrested in connection with these warrants.

Yolanda Marie Meechan, 29, of Toronto, is wanted in this investigation.

She is described as 5’11, 210 lbs., with brown or red hair. Investigators believe she is evading arrest in the Toronto and/or Hamilton area.

She is wanted for:

1) three counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine
2) four counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Marihuana
3) two counts of Possession of Proceeds of Crime (Over)

Man wanted for firearm-related offences, Jahwayne Genisis Smart, 21, Photograph of man released

On Tuesday, May 24, 2016, the Toronto Police Service Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force executed a search warrant in the Westmount Avenue and Rosecliffe Avenue area.

It is alleged that the execution of the warrant led to the seizure of:

- a loaded Glock 9 mm handgun
- 10 grams of cocaine
- over $15,000 in Canadian currency

Jahwayne Genisis Smart, 21, of Toronto, is wanted for:

1) Unauthorized possession of a firearm
2) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
3) Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
4) Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
5) Possession of a firearm obtained by crime
6) Possession of a prohibited device
7) Careless storage of a firearm
8) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine CDSA 5(2)
9) Possession of Proceeds of Crime C.C. 354(1)

He is described as 5'10", 130 lbs. Investigators believe that he currently has injuries consistent with severe frostbite.

His photograph has been released.

Peter Dwyer, 36, charged in Assault (Hate Crime) investigation, Finch subway station

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in an Assault (Hate Crime) investigation.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at approximately 2 p.m., officers responded to a call for an Assault at Finch subway station.

It is alleged that:

- a man was walking through the station

- he began yelling aggressively at a passer-by

- he continued through the station, coming upon a 66-year-old black woman

- he assaulted her, knocking her to the ground

- during the assault, he shouted racial slurs at her

- members of the public stopped the assault and held the man for police

Peter Dwyer, 36, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Assault (Hate Crime)

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, February 2, 2017, 10 a.m., room 306.

The 66-year-old woman received bruising, scrapes and cuts. She was treated at the scene and released.

Homicide #6/2017, 2999 Jane Street, Dameion McFarland, 35

On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 10:17 p.m., officers responded to a call for a shooting at 2999 Jane Street.

Police and paramedics arrived and located a man with life-threatening injuries. Lifesaving efforts were attempted. The man was later pronounced at the scene.

He has been identified as Dameion McFarland, 35, of Toronto.

His photograph has been released.

Man, 20, arrested in 2014 Robbery investigation

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform he public about an arrest in a Robbery investigation.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, a man was arrested following an investigation into two 2014 retail robberies. Both robberies occurred at convenience stores on Monday, September 8, 2014 in the Davenport Road and Oakwood Avenue area and the second one at St. Clair Avenue West and Christie Street.

It is alleged that:

- the accused entered the first store, proceeded towards a man, 48, and pointed a black handgun at him

- the 48-year-old man grabbed the accused and the two became involved in a physical altercation resulting in the accused being cut and leaving blood droplets at the scene

- he fled the scene without obtaining any money or property

- in the second robbery, the accused again pointed the gun at a 20-year-old man and obtained a quantity of money, cigars and cigarettes

- the accused was still bleeding from his injuries obtained during the first robbery

Toyin Samson Gil, 20, was arrested and charged with:

1) two counts of Robbery while armed with firearm
2) two counts of Disguise with Intent

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Thursday, February 2, 2017, 10 a.m, room 101

Two people arrested in Child Sexual Abuse investigation

Since January 2016, members of the Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes Child Exploitation Section have been investigating the alleged online sexual abuse of a child.

It is alleged that:

- 12-14 years ago, two men made arrangements to sexually abuse a child

- these arrangements were made online with the child’s parents

- the two men attended an address in London, Ontario for this purpose

On January 25, 2017, with assistance from the London Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit, officers executed a search warrant.

Martin Galloway, 56, of London, was arrested and charged with:

1) Sexual Assault
2) Sexual Interference

Online, Martin Galloway was known as “Scotdom,” “Mr. Scotdom,” and Scotdom@hotmail.com.

On February 1, 2017, with the assistance of the Kingston Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit, officers made another arrest.

Jacquelyn Laronde, 46, of Kingston, was charged with:

1) Sexual Assault
2) Sexual Interference

Online, Jacquelyn Laronde was known as lfesavr@hotmail.com. At the time of the alleged assault, she was known as Sean O’Toole.

Martin Galloway was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on January 26, 2017.

Jacquelyn Laronde was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Thursday, February 2, 2017, 10 a.m., room 101.

Police seek assistance identifying man involved in Aggravated Assault investigation, Toronto Reference Library

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance identifying a man involved in an Aggravated Assault at the Toronto Reference Library at 789 Yonge Street.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 11:39 a.m., police responded to a stabbing call at the Toronto Reference Library

It is reported that:

- a man engaged in a unprovoked verbal argument with a 26-year-old man

- as the argument escalated, the man produced a knife and stabbed the 26-year-old man

- the 26-year-old man received non-life-threatening injuries

The man is described as 5'9"-5'11", thin build, short black hair, with a black goatee/beard. He was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, grey jeans, grey running shoes.

This man is considered armed and dangerous. If seen, do not approach. Call 9-1-1.

Fatal collision #5/2017, Southbound Brimley Road at Elgar Avenue

On Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 2:19 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at southbound Brimley Road at Elgar Avenue.

It is reported that:

- a man, 26, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, southbound on Brimley Road, approaching Elgar Avenue

- a man, 18, was driving a 2007 Mazda 3, westbound on Elgar Avenue, attempting to make a left turn to southbound Brimley Road

- the vehicles collided in the intersection

- both vehicles left the roadway, striking a tree on the west side of Brimley Road

The 26-year-old man, who was driving the Chevrolet Malibu, received life-threatening injuries and was pronounced on scene.

Missing girl, Birchmount Road/Eglinton Avenue East area, Cheyenne Beardsworth-Hynes, 14

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance locating a missing girl.

Cheyenne Beardsworth-Hynes, 14, was last seen on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 4 p.m., in the Birchmount Road/Eglinton Avenue East area.

She is described as 5’2”, 95 lbs, with long blonde hair. She was wearing a black sweater with pink writing, black leggings, black winter boots with fur on top, a pink-and-purple winter jacket and carrying a black knapsack.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Matthew Eric Desir, 23, faces 13 charges in Human Trafficking investigation, Police concerned there may be other victims

Members of the Toronto Police Service Human Trafficking Enforcement Team and 31 Division started an investigation into a Human Trafficking occurrence.

It is alleged that:

- in the summer of 2016, a 21-year-old woman met Matthew Eric Desir through mutual friends

- a short time later, they moved in together

- shortly after moving in, he approached her about working as an escort so she could make more money

- she initially refused

- he coerced her into working in the sex trade

- in October 2016, she began to work for him

- he took photographs of her in various stages of undress and posted advertisements on backpage.com

- she was forced to hand over all the money she made

- she was forced to work in various hotels in the Greater Toronto Area as an escort

- she was assaulted, threatened and forced to provide sexual services to the accused

- in December 2016, she managed to escape and subsequently contacted police

A Warrant in the First was subsequently taken out for the arrest of Matthew Eric Desir.

On Friday, January 27, 2017, Matthew Eric Desir was located in Montreal, and arrested.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, Matthew Eric Desir was charged with:

1) Trafficking In Persons by Recruiting (Over 18)
2) Procuring
3) Material Benefit From Trafficking In Persons (Over 18)
4) Material Benefit From Sexual Services
5) Exercise Control
6) Advertise Another Person's Sexual Services
7) Assault
8) Assault Causing Bodily Harm
9) Sexual Assault
10) Mischief
11) Forcible Confinement
12) Utter Threats
13) Extortion

He appeared in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, February 2, 2017, room 306.

Police are concerned there may be other victims.

Police would like to encourage all those affected to come forward and report Human Trafficking occurrences. We want to make sure that everyone has access to support services and an exit strategy, regardless of their decision to proceed criminally.

Homicide #65/2016, Yusef Hagi Ahmed, 27, Media advisory, Friday, February, 3, 2017, 10:30 a.m., Headquarters, media gallery, News conference

On Friday, February 3, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., in the media gallery at headquarters, Homicide Detective Jeff Tavares will update the media on the investigation into Homicide #65/2016.

On Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at approximately 12:45 a.m., police responded to 260 Markham Road for the sound of gunshots.

Once on scene, police located two males and a female, all with gunshot wounds. They were taken to hospital where one of the males succumbed to his injuries. The female and the other male were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a man with a light complexion, approximately 20, wearing dark clothing.

The deceased has been identified as Yusef Hagi Ahmed, 27, of Toronto.


The news conference will be available on the TOC and will be live-streamed.
