Public assistance sought identifying woman in Mischief investigation, Glenholme Avenue/Rogers Road area, Security camera video of suspect now available

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance identifying a woman wanted in a Mischief investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at 7:46 a.m., a woman ran up to a vehicle in the Glenholme Avenue/Rogers Road area

- the woman then scratched the vehicle with a sharp object, causing extensive damage, before fleeing northbound on Glenholme Avenue.

She is described as white, 5’2"-5’5", with a thin build, and brown hair. She was wearing a baseball cap and covered her face with a red bandana.

Security camera video of the suspect is now available on YouTube.

Assistance sought identifying two men for Theft of poppy donation box, 1094 Bloor Street West, Update, Suspects identified, Videos and images now removed, Can no longer be published under provisions of the YCJA

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance with a theft investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at approximately 6:20 p.m., two men walked into a Tim Horton’s at 1094 Bloor Street West

See previous news release.

The two have now been identified. A warrant for their arrest will be sought on Thursday, November 12, 2015.

One of the suspects is believed to be a youth. As a result, the video and images can no longer be published under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Please refer to Section 110, Subsection 1, of the YCJA:

110. (1) Subject to this section, no person shall publish the name of a young person, or any other information related to a young person, if it would identify the young person as a young person dealt with under this Act.*

Public Safety Alert, 971-A Bloor Street West, Man faces two charges in Sexual Assault investigation, Police believe there may be other victims

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a Sexual Assault investigation.

On Thursday, November 5, 2015, police received a complaint of a sexual assault at the Natural Healings Health Solutions clinic at 971-A Bloor Street West.

It is alleged that:

- a 22-year-old woman attended the clinic to be treated for back pain

- she saw a man practising alternative medicine

- during the treatments, she was sexually assaulted

On Monday, November 9, 2015, Mark Lannard, 53, of Toronto, was arrested. He was charged with:

1) two counts of Sexual Assault

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, 10 a.m., room 111.

Police believe there may be other victims.

Missing woman, Queen Street West/Ossington Avenue area, Aaliyah Deflormonte, 25

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance locating a missing woman.

Aaliyah Deflormonte, 25, was last seen on Monday, November 9, 2015, at approximately 8:15 p.m., in the Queen Street West/Ossington Avenue area.

She is described as black, 5’8”, 150 lbs., with a long straight black wig. She was wearing a green army jacket, a striped shirt, black tights, and gold Puma hightops. She may also be wearing a pink bandanna.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Man succumbs to injuries following Assault, Assault now Homicide #43/2015, Charles Smithers, 60, Richard Chan, 50, charged with Manslaughter

On Friday, October 2, 2015, two men became involved in an altercation in an apartment in the Gerrard Street East/Woodbine Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- one man, 50, then kicked the other, 60, in the back

- the 60-year-old received broken ribs as a result of the assault

It is further alleged that:

- on Friday, October 16, 2015, police were called to a unit in the same apartment for a sudden death

- police located the 60-year-old deceased

A post-mortem examination was conducted on Saturday, October 17, 2015. The cause of death was the result of the assault. He has been identified as Charles Smithers, of Toronto

On Tuesday, November 10, 2015, the 50-year-old was arrested. Richard Chan, 50, of Toronto, is charged with:

1) Manslaughter

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, 10 a.m.

Search warrants lead to gun, ammunition, cash and drug seizure, Two people arrested, now facing 28 charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to advise the public of arrests in a Firearms investigation and seizures of guns, ammunition, cash and drugs.

It is alleged that:

- on Monday, November 9, 2015, members of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force arrested a man and a woman for firearms-related offences

- as a result, search warrants were executed on a Toronto address.

It is further alleged that the following items were seized:

- a loaded Glock .40 semi-automatic handgun

- two ballistic bulletproof vests

- a drum-style magazine with ammunition (over 50-round capacity)

- ammunition for various types of guns (.40 and .45 calibre)

- a quantity of powdered cocaine, crack cocaine and methamphetamine

- a quantity of cash (proceeds of crime)

Jasfa Brown, 32, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
2) Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
3) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
4) Possession of a Firearm Obtained by the Commission of an Offence
5) Careless Storage of a Firearm
6) Careless Storage of Ammunition
7) three counts of Possession of a Prohibited Device
8) two counts of Possession of Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
9) two counts of Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
10) Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking
11) Possession of Proceeds of Crime

Amanda Toppin, 31, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
2) Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
3) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
4) Possession of a Firearm Obtained by the Commission of an Offence
5) Careless Storage of a Firearm
6) Careless Storage of Ammunition
7) three counts of Possession of a Prohibited Device
8) two counts of Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
9) Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking
10) Possession of Proceeds of Crime

They both appeared in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, 10 a.m., room 103.

Missing woman, Scarborough Golf Club Road and Ellesmere Road area, Alicia Badger, 29

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing woman.

Alicia Badger, 29, of Toronto, was last seen on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 12 p.m., in the Scarborough Golf Club Road and Ellesmere Road area.

She is described as 5'6", 120 lbs., thin build, straight red hair, and green eyes. She has a tattoo on the left side of her neck with the name Eric, and a tattoo of a flower on the right side of her neck.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Public Safety Alert, Police seek assistance identifying man wanted for Assault, Parliament Street and Queen Street East area

On Monday, November 9, 2015, between 10:45 p.m. and 11 p.m., two separate assaults took place in the Parliament Street and Queen Street East area.

It is reported that:

- a 23-year-old woman was walking near Queen Street East and Parliament Street at 10:45 p.m.,

- a man asked her for a cigarette

- the woman said, "No"

- the man then slapped her face

- the woman fell to the ground and sustained minor injuries

It is further reported that:

- a 25-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk near Queen Street East and Trefann Street at 11 p.m.

- a man blocked her path

- she tried to detour around him, but he blocked her path again

- the man then punched the woman

- the woman ran across the street and he chased her

- the woman sustained minor injuries

The man is described as black with a dark complexion, 5'11" - 6'0", 30 - 40, medium build, scruffy facial hair and short black hair. He was was wearing a black winter jacket and dark pants.

Jailan Ghulam, 65, was last seen on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at approximately 8 a.m., in the Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East area.

He is described as 5'7", thin build, balding grey hair with green eyes and a moustache. He was last seen wearing a black blazer, black pants, a black Toronto Blue Jays hat and black Nike running shoes.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Sexual Assault Alert, Man wanted in Sexual Assault investigation, Update, Armed and Dangerous man sought by police,

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

On Friday, November 6, 2015, just before midnight, police responded to a call for a sexual assault in the Alexander Street and Yonge Street area.

The man has been identified as Brennan Wayne Guigue, 45, of Toronto.

He is described as 5'9", 201 lbs.

Police believe him to be armed and dangerous. Do not approach him. If he is encountered call 9-1-1.

Man faces charges in Fraud investigation, Yisef Tilahun Amare, 46, Police believe there may be other victims, Photograph of man released

On Tuesday, November 3, 2015, officers from 43 Division, with the assistance of Peel Regional Police Service, Airport Division, arrested and charged a man in connection with an investigation into immigration and refugee recruiting fraud.

It is alleged that:

- a man contacted victims from the Ethiopian/Eritrean community and posed as an immigration/refugee agent

- the man offered to assist the victims by bringing their families into Canada for a better life

- the man offered the services and showed false documents to prove that he could assist and gained the victims' faith

- the man would take money and not provide any services as promised

- the man does not work as an immigration/refugee agent and is unemployed

Yisef Tilahun Amare, 46, of Calgary, Alberta, has been arrested. He is charged with:

1) Fraud Over $5000
2) Laundering Proceeds of Crime

Police believe there may be other victims.

On Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., in the media gallery, at headquarters, Sex Crimes will update the media in regards to three investigations.

Acting Inspector Joanne Rudnick will alert the public of Brennan Wayne Guigue, 45, who is wanted, and to be considered armed and dangerous. See previous news release.

Acting Inspector Joanne Rudnick will also announce an arrest made in a sexual assault which occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2015, between 5 a.m., and 6 a.m., in the Kipling Avenue and Birmingham Street area.

Finally, Detective Ali Ansari of the Cold Case Section, will update the media on an arrest made in a 1990 Sexual Assault.

The conference will be available on Bell TOC, and will be live-streamed.

Financial Literacy Month takes place during November. This year’s strategy is to help Canadians manage money and debt wisely, plan and save for the future and prevent and protect against fraud and financial abuse. The campaign’s goal is to bring together organizations from the private, public and non-profit sectors while collaborating to promote financial literacy for Canadians of all ages. The slogan for 2015 is “Count me in, Canada”.

Today, at 1 p.m., we will be joined by our special guests Canadian Payments Association, Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, and Interac to answer questions regarding Financial Literacy Month. Members of the public can follow @cdnpay, @FCACan and @Interac using the hashtag #Fraudchat on twitter.

To follow #fraudchat, members of the public simply need to log on to Twitter from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. EST and follow the #Fraudchat hashtag. An application such as “Tweetdeck,” which allows users to separately view tweets containing this hashtag, is also helpful in following the chat.

#Fraudchat is a bi-weekly Twitter chat that takes place on a Thursday from 1 p.m., to 2 p.m., EST on Twitter. Launched in November 2012, this program seeks to educate and exchange ideas with the public about financial crimes and fraud. The moderators for this program are Detective Gail Regan @reganfcu of the Financial Crimes Unit and members of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, @FSCOTweets.

Since November 2012, the Financial Crimes Unit has partnered with the Financial Service Commission of Ontario to educate the public about financial crimes and fraud through the use of social media.

Search warrants lead to seizure of guns, ammunition, drugs and cash, Two people arrested, now facing 25 charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to advise the public of arrests made in a Firearms investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Sunday, November 8, 2015, a search warrant was executed as a result of a firearm investigation

- a firearm was discovered and seized

- as a result, another search warrant was executed on a related motor vehicle.

It is further alleged that the following were seized:

- a loaded .44 calibre Charter Arms revolver

- a .45 calibre Glock pistol

- three ballistic bulletproof vests

- a handgun holster

- two firearm magazines containing ammunition

- numerous rounds of ammunition of various types (.40, .44 special, .45 auto, .380 auto, 22 long rifle, 12 gauge slug, .40 cal. S&W, 9 mm)

- a quantity of powered cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin and marijuana

- a quantity of cash (proceeds of crime)

Jahi Samuel, 33, of Markham, has been charged with:

1) Possession of a Firearm with Ammunition
2) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
3) Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
4) Possession of a Firearm Obtained by the Commission of an Offence
5) Careless Storage of Firearm
6) Careless Storage of Ammunition
7) Possession of a Prohibited Device
8) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine
9) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine (Crack Cocaine)
10) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Marihuana (marihuana)
11) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Heroin
12) Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5000
13) three counts of Fail to Comply with Prohibition Order

He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Monday, November 9, 2015, 10 a.m., courtroom 101.

Shikha Thomas, 31, of Markham, has been charged with:

1) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
2) Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
3) Possession of a Loaded Restricted Firearm
4) Possession of a Firearm Obtained by the Commission of an Offence
5) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
6) Careless Storage of Firearm
7) Careless storage of ammunition
8) Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device
9) two counts of Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

She is scheduled to appear in court, at Old City Hall on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, 9 a.m., courtroom 114.

Aimahara Cruz Prats, 40, was last seen in early November 2015, in the Church Street and Gerrard Street East area.

She is described as 5’2”, average build, long brown hair and brown eyes. She has an artistic design tattoo on her wrist. She speaks English and Spanish.

Fatal collision #55/2015, Lawrence Avenue West, west of Jane Street

On Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 8:04 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Lawrence Avenue West, west of Jane Street.

It is reported that:

- a 88-year-old woman was attempting to cross Lawrence Avenue West, west of Jane Street

- a 58-year-old man was driving a 1999 Pontiac Montana minivan, eastbound on Lawrence Avenue West, approaching Jane Street

- the pedestrian was struck by the vehicle

- the 88-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene

- the two men broke into 22 residential lockers containing personal items
