On Saturday, July 4, 2015, the Toronto Pan American Torch Relay will return to Toronto. The torch arrived in Toronto on Tuesday, May 30, 2015, and has since been moving through celebration sites across the province. On Saturday, July 4, 2015, the torch will arrive back in Toronto at 6 p.m.
There is a celebration planned at the Prince Edward Viaduct (Bloor/Danforth bridge) from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the torch will be on site from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The public can expect traffic delays and should consider alternate routes around the area of the event.
UPDATE: The Prince Edward Viaduct will be closed from Friday, July 3, 2015, at 8 p.m. to Sunday, July 5, 2015, at 5 a.m. TCC buses will still have access. Also, Castle Frank Road from the Don Valley Parkway and the Bayview extension ramps in both directions will be closed from Saturday, July 4, 2015, at 4 p.m. to Sunday, July 5, 2015, at 5 a.m.
Rolling lane closures will be in effect as the torch-bearer moves through city streets. The rolling lane closures will begin in the area of St. James Town Library, 495 Sherbourne Ave, at approximately 6 p.m. and will affect the following route:
- southbound on Bleeker Street, from the St. James Town Library to Wellesley Street East
- westbound on Wellesley Street East, to Jarvis Street
- northbound on Jarvis Street, continuing onto Ted Rogers Way to Bloor Street East
- eastbound on Bloor Street East, to the celebration site at the Prince Edward Viaduct
On Sunday, July 5, 2015, the Toronto Pan American Torch Relay will continue through Toronto. There are 11 scheduled stop:
- Withrow Park, McConnell Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m.
- Variety Village, 3701 Danforth Avenue, from 10:41 a.m. to 10:56 a.m.
- L’Amoreaux Community Recreation Centre, 2000 McNicoll Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 12:16 p.m.
- Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto, 5183 Sheppard Avenue East, from 12:43 p.m. to 12:48 p.m.
- Toronto Zoo, from 1:06 p.m. to 2:06 p.m.
- CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Aquatic Centre (PAC), 1028 Military Trail (at Morningside Avenue), from 2:38 p.m. to 3:38 p.m.
- University of Toronto – Scarborough Campus, 130 Old Kingston Road, from 4 p.m. to 4:10 p.m.
- CIBC Branch, 255 Morningside Avenue, from 2:27 p.m. to 2:37 p.m.
- No Frills, 2742 Eglinton Avenue East, from 5:12 p.m. to 5:17 p.m.
- Don Montgomery Community Centre, 2467 Eglinton Avenue East, from 5:32 p.m. to 6:02 p.m.
- Toronto Afrofest, 1141-1157 Eastern Avenue, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
UPDATE: There has been an additional stop added:
- Aga Khan Park, 77 Wynford Drive, torch will arrive at 8:15 p.m.
Rolling lane closures will be in effect along the torch route and will affect the following streets:
- northbound on Fenwick Avenue, to Danforth Avenue
- eastbound on Danforth Avenue, to Variety Village at 3701 Danforth Avenue
- northbound on Kennedy Road, from Lawrence Avenue East to McNicoll Avenue
- westbound on McNicoll Avenue, to 2000 McNicoll Avenue
- eastbound on McNicoll Avenue, to Silver Star Boulevard
- southbound on Brimley Avenue, to the Finch Hydro corridor
- Sheppard Avenue East, from Markham Road to 5183 Sheppard Avenue East
- eastbound on Ellesmere Road, from Neilson Road to Military Trail
- northbound on Military Trail, to the PanAm Aquatics Centre (PAC)
- southbound on Military Trail to Old Kingston Road
- westbound on Old Kingston Road to the Tennis Centre (UTS)
- westbound on Old Kingston Road from the UTS entrance to the Kingston Road access
- southbound on Kingston Road, to Morningside Avenue
- westbound on Eglinton Avenue East, from Kingston Road to Midland Avenue
- westbound on Queen Street East, from Fallingbrook Road to Woodbine Avenue
- southbound on Woodbine Avenue, from Queen Street East onto Lake Shore Boulevard East
- westbound on Lake Shore Boulevard East, to Coxwell Avenue
All rolling lane closures will be a single lane and motorists are asked to show additional caution along the route.
We would also like to make the public aware that, during the events on the evening of Saturday July 4, 2015, there may be detonation of pyrotechnic special effects at the celebration site adjacent to the Prince Edward Viaduct.
