Toronto Triathlon Festival, Saturday, June 20, 2015, and Sunday, June 21, 2015, Road Closures

On Saturday, June 20, 2015, and Sunday, June 21, 2015, the Toronto Triathlon Festival will take place. The main competition comprises of three legs: a swim, a bike, and a run, in both Olympic distance and Sprint distance. The event will start on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at 6:50 a.m., and should be completed by 2 p.m.

Road closures will be in place for all or part of the day.

Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 8 p.m. to Sunday, June 21, 2104at 5 p.m.:
-Remembrance Drive from Newfoundland Drive to Lake Shore Boulevard West

Sunday, June 21, 2015, at 2 a.m. to 12 p.m.:
- Gardiner Expressway from Lake Shore Boulevard West to Don Valley Parkway (eastbound lane only)

-Don Valley Parkway from Fred Gardiner Expressway to Eglinton Avenue (northbound lanes only)


Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 2 a.m. to 12 p.m.:
-British Columbia Drive from Lake Shore Boulevard West to Springhurst Avenue

- Saskatchewan Road from British Columbia Drive to Princes Boulevard

- Princes Boulevard from Saskatchewan Road to Ontario Drive

- Ontario Drive from Princes Boulevard to Lake Shore Boulevard West


Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. (partial road):
-Eastbound Lake Shore Boulevard West from Windermere Avenue to Remembrance Drive (eastbound curb lane only)

All access to the Don Valley Parkway will be restricted to the locations of: (northbound):
-Don Roadway
-Queen Street East ramp
-Bayview Avenue ramp
-Don Mills Road
-Eglinton Avenue ramp (bus lane)

All access to the Gardiner Expressway will be restricted to the locations of: (eastbound only)
- South Kingsway
- British Columbia Drive
- Lake Shore Boulevard East at Lower Jarvis Street


Motorists can expect delays in the area and should consider alternate methods of transportation.

The TTC will not experience any delays.

The event will take place regardless of weather conditions.

Missing woman located, Elliada Araujo, 31

Man, 41, arrested in financial institution robbery, Faces two charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a financial institution robbery.

It is alleged that:

- on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 and Saturday, June 6, 2015, two financial institutions in the Bloor Street West/Jane Street area were robbed

- in each of the robberies, the man approached a teller

- the man then presented a note indicating he was armed with a gun and made a demand for money

- after obtaining money, the man fled into the subway system

On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, the man was located and arrested. Craig Palmer, 41, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) two counts of robbery

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 10 a.m., room 101.

Police request assistance with Break-and-Enter and Sexual Assault investigation, Spadina Avenue and College Street, Update, composite sketch released of wanted man

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying a man wanted in a Break-and-Enter and Sexual Assault investigation in the Spadina Avenue and College Street area.

Man arrested in shooting investigation, Public assistance sought identifying vehicle involved

On Friday, June 12, 2015, at approximately 3 a.m., police responded to a shooting in the Jane Street and Wilson Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- the victim was standing in the parking lot next to his car

- another car pulled up nearby and a man emerged

- the man then opened fire on the victim

- the man returned to the car and fled

- the victim drove himself to hospital with serious, multiple gun shot wounds

As a result of an investigation, a man alleged to be involved in the shooting was identified. On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, Orrell Martin Higgins, aka Orrell Segree, 31, of Toronto, was arrested. He was charged with:

1) Attempt Murder
2) Discharge Firearm Endanger Life
3) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
4) Possession of a Loaded Restricted Firearm
5) Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is unauthorized

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Thursday June 18, 2015, at 10 a.m.

Investigators are seeking the public's assistance identifying the car involved. It is believed to be a silver Dodge Caliber with aluminum rims, except for the front left tire, which appears to be a conventional black spare tire and rim.

Cold case Homicide #16/1980, Larry Roberts, 29, Media advisory, Friday, June 19, 2015, 10:30 a.m., Headquarters, media gallery, News conference

On Friday, June 19, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., in the media gallery at police headquarters, Homicide Detective Mary Vruna will release composite sketches and announce a $50,000 reward in a cold case homicide from 1980.

The investigation involves connections with Ontario, Alberta, and Quebec.

The conference will be available on Bell TOC, and live-streamed to YouTube.

Excerpt from 1980 news release:
Murder, Attempt Murder, Armed Robbery

On Thursday, April 25, 1980 at 1;26 p.m., two Brink’s Canada, Limited messengers were delivering a large sum of money to the Toronto Dominion Bank at the Agincourt Mall. The guards were ambushed by three armed men. One guard was fatally shot, the other was wounded. The three suspects were seen leaving the scene in a stolen auto, since recovered. The autos used in this robbery were stolen in the Montreal area and the license plates used on the vehicles were stolen in the Ottawa area.

DESCRIPTION OF SUSPECTS:
1. Male, white. 5’6”-7”, full face, early to mid-forties, 150-160 lbs, stocky build, not fat, dark heavy eyebrows, dark hair, medium length, possibly a wig, dark swarthy-ruddy complexion, clean shaven, dark moustache with traces of grey. Heavy dark rimmed sun glasses , rectangular to square in shape.

Wearing: dark coloured fedora with narrow brim and light coloured band. (Popeye Doyle type hat). Appeared too small for the man’s head. Three-quarter length beige trench coat to just below the knee with wide belt. Neatly dressed with shirt and tie. Wearing slip–on dark coloured dress shoes. Armed with short automatic weapon, 24’-36’ in length.

2. Male, white, 5’10” – 6’, 25-30 years, tapered face, 160 lbs, medium build, black busy air, unkempt and extending below ears. Clean shaven with dark bushy moustache, same texture as man’s hair, extending to corners of the mouth. Dark complexion.

Wearing: Tinted eye glasses, dark coloured English style peak cap, dark coloured clothing, armed with handgun.

3. Male, white, late 20’s, early 30’s, 5’11”-6’, 180 lbs, dark complexion. Dark brown to black hair, combed straight down at sides covering part of ears. Moustache, medium thickness to corners of mouth. Two weeks growth of beard, not heavy.

Wearing: olive green coveralls, similar to mechanics overalls. Sunglasses with dark lens. Flat top greyish English type peak cap. Gloves. Armed with handgun.

I am authorized to offer a reward of Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00 ) from the Board of Commissioners of Police for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for this Murder, Attempt Murder and Armed Robbery.

The Reward is payable in Canadian Funds and expires on April 30, 1981 and shall be apportioned as the Board of Commissioners of Police deem just.

Claims will be recognized only when made in writing prior to the expiry date.

The co-operation and assistance of all citizens and Police Officers is earnestly requested in bringing about an early arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for this Murder, Attempt Murder and Armed Robbery.

The 16th annual Taste of Little Italy will be held from Friday, June 19, 2015, through to Sunday, June 21, 2015.

As a result, the following road closures will take place from Friday, June 19, 2015, at 6:30 p.m., to Monday, June 22, 2015, at 3 p.m.:

- College Street, from Bathurst Street to Shaw Street

- Grace Street, from Harbord Street to College Street

- Manning Avenue, from Ulster Street to College Street

In addition, the following road closures will take place, just north of College Street, from Friday, June 19, 2015, at 3 p.m., to Monday, June 22, 2015, at 3 a.m.:

- Palmerston Avenue

- Clinton Avenue

- Montrose Avenue

TTC will not be operating within these boundaries during the road closures.

- Queen’s Park Crescent, between Bloor Street and College Street
- University Avenue, between College Street and Wellington Avenue

Personal injury collision, Westbound Gardiner Expressway, east of Grand Avenue, Man facing three charges

On Thursday, June 18, 2015, at approximately 3:30 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision on the westbound Gardiner Expressway, east of Grand Avenue.

- a 30-year-old man was driving a 2015 Acura, westbound on the Gardiner Expressway, approaching Grand Avenue

- a road maintenance crew was working in the left lane of the westbound Gardiner Expressway, east of Grand Avenue

- the Acura struck the rear of a blocker truck (safety vehicle), veered right and subsequently struck a Ford van which was also westbound

- the driver of the van lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle left the roadway, striking a guardrail on the north shoulder of the Gardiner Expressway and then rolled over

All occupants of both vehicles were taken to hospital for treatment. The driver of the Acura was arrested at the scene of the collision.

The driver of the Acura has been identified as Jastaad Sagoo, 30, of Mississauga.

He has been charged with:

1) Impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
2) Over 80 mgs operation causing bodily harm
3) Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Friday, August 7, 2015, 2 p.m., room 202.

Murder, Attempt Murder, Armed Robbery

Man wanted in Assault investigation, Hervolist Shawdover, 49, Photograph released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a man wanted in an Assault investigation.

On Thursday, June 18, 2015, the Toronto Police Service received a call for an assault in the Victoria Park Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East area.

It is alleged that:

- a man and a women got into a heated argument

- the man became very angry and punched the women in the face several times

- the man then choked the women

- the man fled the area

He is described as 6’, muscular build, 220 pounds, with short black-and-grey hair.

A warrant has been issued for Hervolist Shawdover, 49, of Toronto.

He is wanted for:

1) Assault

Police are seeking the public's assistance locating him. If located, do not approach and immediately call 9-1-1. He is considered extremely violent and dangerous.

His photograph has been released.

Missing woman, Lucia Iqbal, 75

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing woman.

Lucia Iqbal, 75, was last seen on Friday, June 19, 2015 in the King Street West and Spencer Avenue area.

She is described as 5', 130 lbs., South Asian, small build and has shoulder-length grey hair. She was last seen wearing blue trackpants, a white-and-blue striped blouse and a toque. She uses a cane when she walks. She was carrying a burgundy shoulder bag and a red shopping bag. She speaks very little English.

Police have concerns for her safety.

Missing woman, Houmei Chan, 64

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing woman.

Houmei Chan, 64, was last seen on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at 6 p.m. in the Scarborough Town Centre at 300 Borough Drive.

She is described as 5’, with a thin build and long black shoulder-length hair. She was last seen wearing a straw hat with blue scarf (as in the attached photograph), maroon bubble vest, dark pants, carrying a black suitcase with fluorescent writing of different names on it, a small duffel bag in camouflage colour and a similarly coloured purse.

Police are concerned for her safety.

Police request assistance with Attempt Murder investigation, Pharmacy Avenue and Danforth Avenue area

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with an Attempt Murder investigation.

On Saturday, June 21, 2015, at approximately 9:55 p.m., police received a call for a shooting in the Pharmacy Avenue and Danforth Avenue area.

It is reported that:

- a 22-year-old man was shot multiple times

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this shooting to contact investigators.
