The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of two arrests made in a distraction robbery investigation.
It is alleged that:
- on Sunday, June 14, 2015, a 75-year-old woman was walking in a parking lot in the
Warden Avenue/Finch Avenue East area
- a car, with a male driver and a female passenger, drove towards and approached the woman
- the passenger grabbed the woman by the arm and pulled her towards their car
- the passenger placed two fake gold chains around the woman's neck while engaging her in conversation
- the passenger then removed the fake gold chains, along with the woman's real chain
- the couple then drove away
Through investigation, the couple was identified and located shortly thereafter.
It is further alleged that they committed a fraud in Durham Region.
Comisaru Miclescu and Claudia Miclescu, both 31, of Romania, were arrested. They are each charged with:
1) Robbery
2) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
3) Fraud - Under ($5000)
4) Possession of Proceeds of Crime
They were scheduled to appear in court on Monday, June 15, 2015, at 10 a.m., at College Park Courts, in courtroom 507.
Police believe there may be other victims.
Distraction style robberies often identify vulnerable people wearing jewelry. In some cases, gifts of invaluable jewelry is presented and placed on the victims. After some distracting conversation, the real jewelry will be removed from the victim, leaving the invaluable piece behind.
