$

On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, the Toronto Police Service and Cycle Toronto will hold a bicycle safety education and awareness campaign.

"Ride a Mile in my Cycle Shoes" is an idea born from online conversations between the cycling community and police, on the @TorontoPolice Twitter account, over discussion regarding bike lanes and enforcement.

Participation was immediately embraced by the member-supported organization, Cycle Toronto, and the Toronto Police Service's Parking Enforcement Unit, Transit Patrol Unit, and downtown Divisions 14, 51, and 52.

Departing from police headquarters at 7 a.m., members of the public, as nominated by Cycle Toronto, will join the officers in a bike ride-along for a portion of their shift. Together, they will enforce Highway Traffic and by-laws on bicycle safety, particularly bike lanes and cycle tracks.

In addition, some of the officers will be riding in plainclothes to experience cycling in the downtown core without the benefit of a fully marked uniform.

The campaign aims to discover, and appreciate, the cycling experience and enforcement aspect.

As an educational portion, the campaign will be covered on the @TorontoPolice Twitter account, following #BikeTO.

The presence of the media is welcomed. Participants will be made available for interviews. To coordinate the locations, please contact Constable Victor Kwong at 416-808-7091, or best, by email, at victor.kwong@torontopolice.on.ca
