On Friday, April 19, 2013, at 3:44 a.m., police saw a vehicle on the westbound Gardiner Expressway at Highway 427.

It is alleged that:

- a 2007 Toyota Camry was driving at a high rate of speed

- a speed-measuring device, used by the officer, registered a speed of 167 km/h in a 100 km/h zone

An 18-year-old Toronto man has been charged with:

1. Stunt Driving - Drive at rate of speed - 50 km/h or more over speed limit
2. Speeding 167 km/h in 100 km/h zone

His licence has been suspended for seven days for stunt driving. His vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

On September 30, 2007, Bill 203 came into effect. This important piece of legislation addresses the issues of speed/stunt driving on Ontario roads, to ensure the safety of all road users, and remove those who put innocent people at risk with bad-driving behaviour.

From January 1, 2013, to April 19, 2013, the Toronto Police Service has issued 83 suspensions for speeding/stunt driving. Of these 83 suspensions, alcohol was a contributing factor in eight of these incidents.

Speed and alcohol are two major contributing factors in fatal collisions. Make the right decision, don’t drink and drive. You decide your speed, physics decides whether you live or die. Do your part to keep our roadways safe.
