Traffic fatality #10/2013 Alvaro David, 46, faces seven charges in impaired driving investigation Kennedy Road/William Kitchen Road

On Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 6:42 p.m., police responded to a call for a multi-vehicle collision on Kennedy Road at William Kitchen Road.

It is alleged that:

- a 46-year-old man, driving a 1999 Dodge Durango, was eastbound on Highway 401 when he exited at Kennedy Road

- while travelling down the off-ramp, the man failed to stop his SUV at the red light at Kennedy Road and struck a 37-year-old man who was riding his bicycle northbound, in the crosswalk, on the west side of Kennedy Road

- the SUV continued into the intersection and struck four southbound vehicles and one northbound vehicle before coming to rest

The cyclist was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Alvaro David, 46, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Fail to stop after accident
2) Dangerous operation causing death
3) Impaired driving causing death
4) Over 80 mg operation causing death
5) Dangerous operation causing bodily harm
6) Impaired driving causing bodily harm
7) Over 80 mg operation causing bodily harm

He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at 10 a.m.

Public assistance sought with shooting investigation, Victoria Park Avenue/O'Connor Drive, Two suspects sought

The Toronto Police Service is seeking the public's assistance with a shooting investigation.

On Saturday, April 13, 2013, at approximately 11 a.m., police were called to the Victoria Park Avenue/O'Connor Drive area in response to several calls of shots being fired.

It is reported that:

- at least ten shots were fired at an unknown target

- two suspects were seen running, then fleeing in a vehicle

There have been no reports of injuries or damage at this time.

The suspects were seen fleeing in a late-model, white, four-door Mazda 3 Sport, with a sunroof and tinted windows. One suspect was seen wearing a red jacket, while the second suspect was seen dressed in all-dark clothing.

3. two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation
4. Fail to Attend Court

He appeared in court on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Old City Hall.

Peining "John" Xu, 15, was last seen on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 5:30 p.m., in the King Street West/Dufferin Street area.

He is described as Asian, approximately 5'7", 128 lbs., with brown eyes and short black hair. He was wearing a black, hooded, nylon, puffy, waist-length jacket, black jeans, and black running shoes.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Chad Streifel, 23, was last seen on Sunday, December 16, 2012, in the Church Street/Wellesley Street East area.

He is described as white, 5'10", 180 lbs., blue eyes and brown hair, sometimes dyed blond. He has a 1” scar above his right eye.

Police are concerned for his safety.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance with a pedestrian-struck fatality investigation.

On Friday, April 12, 2012, at 8:55 p.m., police responded to a personal injury collision on Jane Street, south of Milo Gate.

It is reported that:

- a 50-year-old woman was crossing Jane Street, from the east side to west side, south of the Milo Gate intersection

- a 39-year-old woman, driving a 2009 Pontiac Vibe, travelling northbound on Jane Street, struck the woman.

The pedestrian was pronounced at the scene.

Sexual Assault Alert, Man wanted, O’Connor Drive and Curity Avenue

The Toronto Police Service is alerting the public to a sexual assault investigation

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 8:30 p.m., a man picked up a 24-year-old woman in his vehicle in the Sherbourne Street/Wellesley Street East area

- the suspect drove to the O’Connor Drive/Curity Avenue area

- while en route to the area, the woman was sexually assaulted by the man

- the woman was able to get out of the vehicle

- the man was last seen driving on O’Connor Drive, towards Victoria Park Avenue

The suspect is described as white, 50-60, dirty-blonde or light-brown short hair, with a skinny build.

The vehicle is described as an older model, silver, four-door, with cloth interior.

Man faces four charges in child-luring investigation, Andrew Holbrook, 33

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a child-luring investigation.

It is alleged that:

- a man posted an online ad seeking teenage girls to pose for a lingerie photo shoot

- he communicated with a person he believed to be under 16, soliciting provocative images

On Monday, April 15, 2013, the Toronto Police Sex Crimes Unit - Child Exploitation Section arrested the man on his way to meet the person he believed was under 16.

Andrew Holbrook, 33, of Toronto, is charged with:

1) Luring a child under the age of 18
2) Attempt make child pornography
3) Luring a child under the age of 16
4) Attempt sexual interference

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 10 a.m.

Police believe there may be other victims.

The man used various social media chat and web sites to communicate, including the profiles:
  • e-mail address: tigger_101a@hotmail.com
  • username on various sites: Austin_101

TAVIS Rapid Response Team arrests two men, Loaded handgun siezed

On Monday, April 15, 2013, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers from the TAVIS Rapid Response Team were patrolling the Ardwick Boulevard area as part of a proactive enforcement initiative.

It is alleged that:

- as the officers approached a group of males, they immediately fled from the officers

- three males were arrested a short distance away

- a search of the area where the arrest took place was done and a fully loaded Browning 9mm handgun was seized

Adams Ankamah, 18, of Toronto, is charged with:

1. Carry Concealed Weapon (knife)
2. Weapons Dangerous (knife)
3. Possession of Cocaine
4. Possession for the Purpose Cocaine

Mustaf Yusuf, 18, of Toronto, is charged with:

1. Possession of Cocaine

Both men are scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, 10 a.m.

The third male was released unconditionally.

No charges have been laid in related to the firearm at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Man faces 26 G20 charges, Joel Saleem Bitar, 27, Property damage estimated at more than $400,000

The Toronto Police Service has charged an American man with 26 offences arising from the G20 Summit in Toronto in June 2010.

Joel Saleem Bitar, 27, from New York City, returned to Canada from the United States voluntarily and surrendered to police on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. He was taken to 23 Division and processed on the outstanding Canada Wide Warrant for G20-related offences and held in custody.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 10 a.m.

It is alleged that:

- the accused used a hammer to smash the windows of a TPS police car, while a police officer was inside the vehicle, near the intersection of Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue

- the accused smashed the windows of a Starbucks on Queen Street West

- the accused smashed the windows and ATMs at a Scotiabank branch on Queen Street West

- the accused smashed the windows of a Subway sandwich shop on Queen Street West

- the accused threw a rock at a line of police officers

- the accused threw a rock through a window of a TD branch on Bay Street, and the glass struck both a security officer and a female customer

- the accused, in the King Street West/Bay Street area, jumped on a police car and then threw a rock at a police mini-van

- the accused used a pick-axe hammer and smashed holes in six panes of glass at Commerce Court

- the accused damaged the windows at a TD branch on Yonge Street

- the accused entered the Urban Outfitters store on Yonge Street and removed a retail store display item

- the accused went to the American Apparel store on Yonge Street, removed several of the mannequins and threw them into the street

- the accused and two other males took the metal base of a street caution sign and used it to smash a window at the CARLU on Yonge Street

- the accused smashed the windows at a Starbucks on Yonge Street

- the accused threw a large rock at a police mini-van, smashing the window

Joel Saleem Bitar, 27, has been charged with:

1) a total of 13 counts of Mischief over $5,000
2) Two counts of Intimidation of a Justice System Participant by Violence
3) Obstruct Peace Officer
4) Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon
5) Five counts of Mischief Endangering Life
6) Break-and-Enter with intent
7) Possession Property Obtained by Crime
8) Disguise with Intent
9) Common Nuisance

Missing man, Mohsen Ashrafi Karahroudi, 76

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Mohsen Ashrafi Karahroudi, 76, was last seen on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., in the Finch Avenue East/Willowdale Avenue.

He is described as white, 5”6”, 180 lbs., medium build with short, straight, grey hair. He was last seen wearing a blue/red/white checkered long-sleeve shirt, black hat, black leather gloves. He also wears glasses, a "wandering person" bracelet and uses a walker.

Police are concerned for his safety.
