Police request assistance with investigation into Animal Cruelty incident, Brimley Road and St. Andrews Road area

Police are seeking the public's assistance identifying the person(s) responsible in an Animal Cruelty investigation.

On Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at 10:40 a.m., police responded to a call for a Suspicious Incident in the Brimley Road and St. Andrews Road area.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in the evening hours, a family's cat entered the home. It had been missing for the day.

It is reported that:

- the cat appeared to be in discomfort

- when the cat collapsed, it was brought to a veterinarian

- examination revealed the cat had been shot with what is believed to be a high-powered air rifle

The cat suffered serious injuries and remains in an animal hospital where it is receiving further treatment.

Man arrested in home-invasion Robbery, Two suspects still outstanding

Police are seeking the public's assistance locating or identifying two men wanted in a violent robbery at 1340 Danforth Road.

On Wednesday, April 16, 2014, a woman, 29, was at home with her two sons (aged eight and four).

It is alleged that:

- three men forced their way into her home

- they were all wearing disguises to conceal their identities

- one of the men, armed with a knife, demanded money

- they fled having obtained some items

On Thursday, May 8, 2014, Hold Up officers arrested Christoff Brown, 18, in relation to this investigation. He has been charged with the following:

1) Robbery (three counts)
2) Forcible Confinement (three Counts)
3) Assault with a Weapon
4) Wear a Disguise with Intent
5) Fail to Comply with Recognizance
6) Fail to Comply with Bail

The other two men who remain outstanding are described as:

1) black, 5'5", black hair with 2" twists

2) black, 5'11", dark complexion, thick-boned build, very short black hair

Sexual Assault Alert, Man arrested for sexually assaulting child over seven years, Roger Rayman, 66, faces 21 charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a Sexual Assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- between 2006 and 2013, a man sexually assaulted a now-11-year-old child on numerous occasions

- the mother reported the assaults to police when her child disclosed to her what had happened

On Thursday, May 8, 2014, officers from the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre arrested Roger Rayman, 66, of Toronto. He is charged with:

1) nine counts of Sexual Assault
2) six counts of Sexual Interference
3) six counts of Invitation to Sexual Touching

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Monday, May 12, 2014.

Police believe that there may be more victims as Roger Rayman had access to other children in the community.

Missing man, Johnny Wesley Peterkin, 72

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing man.

Johnny Wesley Peterkin, 72, was last seen on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 4 p.m., in the McCowan Road and Lawrence Avenue East area.

He is black, 6'0", average build, short grey hair, grey facial hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-blue waist-length jacket with white stripes on the collar and waist, blue jeans, black baseball cap with a red-and-yellow logo, black (velcro) shoes with thick white soles.

Police are concerned for his safety.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance locating a missing man.

Donald Potan, 53, was last seen on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 9 a.m., in the Dundas Street East/Parliament Street area.

He is described as Aboriginal, 6'1", 201 lbs., with short black hair, a black trimmed beard, and a black/grey moustache. He was wearing prescription glasses, blue jeans, a black baseball hat and a tan jacket with the lettering "Don" and "Contractor" on the front and "AB Contracting" on the back.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Additionally, the TPS Business Excellence Award nominations will be presented to six serving members of the Service for innovation, community service, technical achievement, customer service and reliability.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Details and photographs of four wanted persons released

In Ontario, May is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Toronto Police Service kicked off the Sexual Assault Awareness Month Campaign, in partnership with Covenant House and East Metro Youth Service, on Monday, May 5, 2014., in the lobby at police headquarters.

The kick-off sought to bring awareness to the issue of Human Trafficking. Human Trafficking involves the exploitation of people through force, coercion, threat, fraud or deception and may include acts generally defined as human rights abuses. Victims may be forced into labour, prostitution or some other form of servitude.

The Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes Unit is continuing awareness efforts by releasing information on persons wanted for sex-related offences. Some include Human Trafficking.

The following four people are wanted on outstanding warrants:

Jessica Naoufal, 22, of Montreal, is wanted for:

1) Procure to have Illicit Sexual Intercourse
2) Living on the avails of Juvenile Prostitution
3) Exercise Control


Shamrez Akram, 40, of Toronto, is wanted for:

1) Personating a Peace Officer
2) Extortion
3) Sexual Assault
4) Fail to Comply - Recognizance (three counts)


D’Shawn Rose, 21, of Toronto, is wanted for:

1) Procuring a Person to Become a Prostitute
2) Exercise Control
3) Live on the Avails of Prostitution (Under 18)


Tyron Correra, 55, of Toronto, is wanted for:

1) Unlawfully in a Dwelling
2) Sexual Assault
3) Threatening Death
4) Mischief Under

It is alleged that:

- on Thursday, May 8, 2014, a young girl was sexually assaulted

On Thursday May 8, 2014, Cristos Mintsoulis, 81, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Sexual Assault
2) Sexual Exploitation
3) Sexual interference
4) Invitation to Sexual Touching

Canada Road Safety Week Tuesday, May 13, 2014 to Monday, May 19, 2014

Canada Road Safety Week is a national traffic safety and enforcement initiative conducted in partnership with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and police services across Canada. This co-ordinated effort between policing agencies is aiming to achieve the goal of making Canada's roads the safest in the world.

Canada Road Safety Week will start on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, and will conclude Monday, May 19, 2014. The goal of this campaign is to identify poor driving habits and behaviour and increase safety through education, awareness and enforcement and, ultimately, save lives.

All police and parking enforcement officers will be paying attention to all traffic laws, including enforcement of impaired operation by alcohol or drugs, pedestrian offences, failure or improper use of seatbelts/child restraints, intersection safety and aggressive driving.

Distracted driving continues to be a problem on our roads which puts other road-users at risk. Special attention will be paid to those drivers who continue to display a total disregard for other users of the road by using hand-held communication and entertainment devices while driving.

Public Safety Alert, Eleven-year-old boy's bike stolen

The Toronto Police would like to make the public aware of an investigation into the theft of a bike.

It is reported that:

- on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 4:30 p.m., an 11-year-old boy attended the Albion Library at 1550 Albion Road

- the boy went inside to sign out books to assist him with his disability, and returned to discover his bicycle had been stolen

Police would like to remind the public that, with the warmer weather, theft of bicycles increase. Please visit our website to register your bicycle.

This incident however, has a positive outcome. Officers from 23 Division felt the impact of the boy's loss and donated a second-hand bicycle to the boy.

Man arrested in Fraud investigation, Prince Victor Eneogwe, 41, (a.k.a. Edward Douglas)

On Wednesday, May 8, 2014, members of the Toronto Strategic Partnership arrested a man in relation to a fraud investigation.

It is alleged that:

- the suspect(s) convinced a man that he could receive an inheritance worth $18.5 million

- the man paid various up-front fees believing it was necessary to collect the inheritance

- in reality, there was no inheritance and the man lost over $25,000

- a suspect purporting to be an employee of the United Nations was arrested in a Toronto hotel while attempting to meet the victim to receive an additional $40,000

Prince Victor Eneogwe, 41, was charged with;

1) Fraud Over $5,000

He was scheduled to appear in court at the Old City Hall on Thursday, May 8, 2014.

Police believe there may be more victims.

Patricia Schultz, 75, was last seen on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 8 p.m. in the Trudelle Street and Torrance Road area.

She is described as black, 5'3", 120 lbs., brown eyes and grey hair. She was last seen wearing a beige jacket, beige pants, black shoes and a black-and-white hat.

Athena Romo, 14, was last seen on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 7 p.m., in the Roncesvalles Avenue and Geoffrey Street area.

She is described as white, 5'1", 115 lbs., fair complexion, hazel eyes, shoulder-length wavy blonde hair, tattoo on wrist of four birds, and a pierced belly button. She was last seen with a bright pink Jans Sport backpack.

Armoured car robbery investigation,
Fairview Mall, Sheppard Avenue East/Don Mills Road

On Monday, January 20, 2014, at 10:25 p.m., police responded to a shooting call at the Fairview Mall at 1800 Sheppard Avenue East.

Police responded and located an armoured car in the parking lot.

It is reported that:

- two men, wearing balaclavas, interrupted at gunpoint the security guards who were making a delivery,

- shots were exchanged between one of the security guards and one of the men

- a quantity of money was taken and both men fled in a silver vehicle,

- the vehicle was located by police a short distance away

The armored guards were not injured during the robbery.

The Toronto Police Service is pleased to be hosting a graduation ceremony for 60 new police recruits on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Toronto Police College, 70 Birmingham Street, starting at noon.

In attendance for this special occasion will be Chief William Blair, Toronto Police Services Board Chair Dr. Alok Mukherjee, and Mr. David Gavsie, Associate Chair of the Ontario Civilian Police Commission.

The graduating class is representative of Toronto's diverse cultural community and brings a superior level of varied knowledge and abilities to the Service, including language skills, previous military or policing experience and post-secondary education.

The class is comprised of 33.3% visible minority members. Of the class, 81.7% successfully completed post-secondary education and 36.7% have previous military or policing experience. A total of 55% of the class speak a language other than English. These include American Sign Language, Arabic, Bosnian, Croatian, Danish, Farsi, French, German, Ilokano, Italian, Japanese, Macedonian, Malayalam, Norwegian, Pashtu, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Ukrainian and Yugoslavian. Of the new recruits who speak a second language, 20% speak two or more languages other than English.

Media advisory, Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 4 p.m.-8 p.m., 13 Division, 1435 Eglinton Avenue West, 13 Division Police Week kick-off

For this year's Police Week kick-off, 13 Division has partnered with five schools within the Division to support this year's theme, "Building Community Partnerships." Officers from 13 Division came up with an artistic idea, not only to build partnerships, but to beautify the Eglinton Avenue West area.

The five schools are each creating a piece of artwork that will be weatherproofed and attached to 13 Division's fence at 1435 Eglinton Avenue West, prior to, and for the duration of, Police Week.

The schools involved are: Cedarvale Community School, D'Arcy McGee Catholic School, Fairbank Memorial Community School, J.R Wilcox Community School and The Leo Baeck Day School.

On Wednesday, May 14, 2014, four of the schools will have a private tour of 13 Division, with the fifth touring the station on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Superintendent Scott Baptist will present certificates to the schools during their tours.

On Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., the public is invited to come and see the student's artwork and take a tour of the station. Food and refreshments will be served.

The TPS Mounted Unit will be on hand during the station tour to meet with the public and will be available for photo opportunities.

Police request assistance with investigation into fires involving cars and garages, Bayview Avenue and Moore Avenue area, Update, Security camera footage of Person of Interest released

On Friday, May 9, 2014, the Toronto Police Service made the public aware of a series of what appeared to be suspicious fires in cars and garages during the early morning hours of Friday, May 9, 2014.

Residents north of Moore Avenue, west of Brendan Road, and east of Bayview Avenue were asked to check their homes and vehicles for damage or signs of suspicious activity.

The Person of Interest is seen walking past a residence wearing a dark knapsack, dark pants, shirt and ball cap. He is holding what appears to be a cup or bottle in his left hand and has a distinct walk.

Members of the public are encouraged to contact police if they recognize this person or have any information. This Person of Interest is encouraged to come forward and assist investigators in solving this crime.
