The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest for a series of seven financial robberies, two retail robberies and several car thefts, gas thefts and vehicle pursuits with police in different jurisdictions. This was a joint investigation involving Toronto Police Service Hold Up and 22 Division, Peel Regional Police Robbery Unit, OPP Collingwood, OPP Caledon and York Regional Police.
It is alleged that:
- a man committed robberies beginning on Sunday, November 6, 2016, in the Collingwood area, and continued across Ontario until Tuesday November 22, 2016
- his robberies were also committed in Toronto's west end, Peel Region and Bolton
- he is alleged to have stolen nine vehicles, in Toronto, Vaughan, Bolton, Caledon, and Collingwood
- on several occasions, he was observed by police driving stolen vehicles and he engaged police in pursuits
- he was also involved in Fail-to-Remain accidents
It is further alleged that:
- on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, Joseph Ross, 19, of Mississauga, was observed in 22 Division in a stolen vehicle and, after a vehicle pursuit along The Queensway, he was arrested
He was charged by numerous police services and units.
Toronto Police Service Hold Up charged him with:
1) three counts of Robbery (RBC, TD Bank, Petro Canada)
2) Use Imitation Firearm in the Commission of an Indictable Offense (Petro Canada)
3) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
4) Theft Under
Toronto Police Service 22 Division charged him with:
1) five counts of Theft of Motor Vehicle
2) four counts of Theft Under (gas)
3) three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
4) Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
5) two counts of Fail to Stop Police
6) two counts of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
7) four counts of Fail to Comply Probation
8) Mischief Under
Toronto Police Service 52 Division charged him with:
1) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
Peel Regional Police charged him with:
1) five counts of Robbery (financial institutions)
York Regional Police charged him with:
1) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
2) Theft Under
3) Fail-to-Remain
OPP Collingwood charged him with:
1) two counts of Theft of Motor Vehicle
2) Theft Under (gas)
OPP Caledon/Bolton charged him with:
1) Theft of Motor Vehicle
2) Use Imitation Firearm in Commission of an Indictable Offense
3) Fail to Stop Police
4) Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, December 1, 2016, 11:30 a.m., room 202.
