On Wednesday, May 29, 2013, TAVIS Rapid Response Team were patrolling the Jane Street/Queens Drive area, conducting proactive enforcement and patrolling residential areas.
It is alleged that:
- officers attempted to stop a car for a Highway Traffic Act offence
- the car failed to stop
- following a brief pursuit, three suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot
- officers gave chase and arrested one man
It is further alleged that a handgun and ammunition was located in the car.
Sylvester Nedd, 21, of Toronto, is charged with:
1) Unauthorized presence of a firearm in a motor vehicle
2) Unauthorized possession of a firearm
3) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
4) Careless storage of a firearm
5) Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, in courtroom 201, on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 10 a.m.
The other two men remain outstanding.
