This past weekend "Fast and Furious 6" arrived in theatres. This movie continues to maintain a following of people who believe the operation of vehicles similar to the way the vehicles are operated in the movie is acceptable and without consequences.
As a result, Traffic Services embarked on an Enhanced Enforcement Campaign this past weekend, targeting this type of driving behaviour.
A total of 50 drivers lost their licenses as a result of offences such as drinking and driving, aggressive driving such as stunt-driving and, in some cases, even racing.
May 25, 2012 - May 27, 2012
Four stunt-driving-related charges
17 90-day ADLS suspensions
18 3-30-day warn suspensions
39 total
May 24, 2013 - May 26, 2013
11 stunt-driving-related charges
24 90-day ADLS suspensions
15 three-day warn suspensions
50 total
Note: 90 ADLS suspensions are only issued if an impaired operation of a motor vehicle or an over 80 mgs charge is laid. 3-30-day warn suspensions are issued if a driver receives a warn reading on a roadside screening device and blood alcohol concentration is between .050 mgs -.099 mgs.
The Toronto Police Service will continue to focus on driving behaviour that puts all road-users at risk to ensure that all road-users are protected from this type of dangerous driving behaviour. For those drivers using Toronto roads take note: if you make a choice to drive impaired, or drive aggressively and chose to risk the safety of all road-users, we will be there, and we will stop you.
