On Thursday, May 23, 2013, police were called by a local hospital regarding a woman who had given birth and the whereabouts of the infant were unknown.
Based on the results of the initial investigation, the Homicide Squad was notified and took carriage of the investigation.

The Homicide Squad received assistance from the RCMP's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team in Surrey, B.C., regarding this investigation.
Following up on a lead regarding the distribution of items from a local clothing donation bank, the RCMP were contacted and requested to search a shipping container that had been sent from Toronto to Surrey.
The investigation in Surrey, B.C., is now concluded.
The investigation is ongoing as the body of the infant has not yet been located.
