Arrest made in sexual assault investigation, Shaun Carlson, 32, faces 10 charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a sexual assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at approximately 5:15 a.m., a 61-year-old woman was parked in front of a coffee shop in the Finch Avenue West/Weston Road area

- a man approached and entered her car

- the man demanded money and credit cards from the woman and ordered her to drive

- the man indicated he had a gun, however none was seen

- the woman was taken to a secluded area near Jane Street/St. Clair Avenue West where she was sexually assaulted

- the man then drove the car to a bank and withdrew a quantity of money from the woman's account

- the man then drove to the Finch Avenue West/Weston Road area where he fled on foot

On Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Shaun Carlson, 32, of Toronto was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Kidnaping
2) Forcible confinement
3) Threatening death
4) Assault
5) Sexual assault
6) three counts of Theft under ($5,000)
7) Fail to comply with probation
8) Robbery

He was scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West, in courtroom 306, on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 9 a.m.


A sexual assault is defined by the Criminal Code of Canada as any form of unwanted sexual contact. It includes, but is not limited to, kissing, grabbing, oral sex and penetration.
