On Sunday, November 9, 2014, at 5:59 a.m., police responded to a personal injury collision at Brookmere Road at Kipling Avenue involving two vehicles.
It is alleged that:
- a 48-year-old man, driving a TTC bus, was eastbound on Westhumber Boulevard approaching Kipling Avenue, (Westhumber Boulevard is on the west side of Kipling and changes to Brookmere Road on the east side of Kipling)
- a 23-year-old man was driving a Nissan Altima, accompanied by two passengers, northbound on Kipling Avenue approaching Brookmere Road
- the TTC bus entered the intersection and struck the Nissan
- after the collision, the TTC bus left the roadway, mounted the curb on the northeast corner of the intersection, subsequently striking a light standard, fire hydrant and came to a stop inside the CIBC Banking Center inside the strip mall
- the driver and passengers of the TTC bus were taken to hospital with minor injuries
- a 24-year-old man who was a passenger in the Nissan was pronounced at the scene
- the driver and other passenger of the Nissan were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Osman, Osman Abdirahman, 23, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
2) Impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death
3) Criminal negligence causing bodily harm
4) Criminal negligence causing death
5) Over 80 mgs operation causing bodily harm
He appeared in court at 2700 Eglinton Avenue West on Thursday, February 26, 2015, 2 p.m. room 206.
