Homicide #23/2012, John Raposo, 35, Update, Rabih Alkhalil returned to Toronto

On Monday, June 18, 2012, at 3:32 p.m., police responded to numerous calls for the sound of gunshots in the College Street/Montrose Avenue area.

Police responded and located a man on the patio of the Sicilian Ice Cream Shop on College Street, suffering from obvious gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as John Raposo, 35, of Toronto.

A post-mortem has concluded that the cause of death was the result of a gun shot wound to the head.

The suspect is described as male, white, 6', blonde shoulder-length hair, medium build. He was wearing a white hard hat, an orange safety vest with fluorescent green "X" on the front and back, and had a white filter mask on his face. The suspect ran north from the scene.

Area residents are asked to check their properties for any items that may have been discarded by the suspect as he fled. If any items are located, do not touch them, but call police immediately. Area residents are also asked to think back prior to 3:30 p.m. as the suspect may have been loitering in the lane ways prior to the homicide.

Also, there were many patrons at the cafe and the surrounding area who fled at the time of the shooting. Police would like to speak with those people regarding any information they may have. Personal belongings that were also left behind at the scene can be claimed by calling Detective Sergeant Terry Browne at 416-808-7403.

On Thursday, June 21, 2012, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Dean Wiwchar, 26, of British Columbia, was arrested.

He is charged with:

1) First Degree Murder

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, in courtroom 101, on Friday, June 22, 2012, at 10 a.m., not College Park Courts as previously reported.

On Wednesday, February 20, 2013, Nicola Nero, 36, of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with:

1) First-Degree Murder

On Saturday, February 16, 2013, Martino Caputo, 39, of Toronto, was arrested in Germany by authorities and is being held pending extradition proceedings. He was held on a warrant for drug-related offences held by Niagara Regional Police Service.

Rabih Alkhalil, 25, of no fixed address, is wanted for:

1) First-Degree Murder

He is also wanted for drug- and organized-crime-related offences by Niagara Regional Police Service and the Surete Du Quebec.

If located, do not approach. Call 9-1-1 immediately.

He is known to frequent Ottawa and Montreal and may have contacts in Vancouver.

The Toronto Police Service Homicide Squad attributes the success of this multi-jurisdictional investigation to the cooperation of a number of police agencies:

- Niagara Regional Police Service
- York Regional Police
- Vancouver Police Department
- Montreal Police Service
- Surete Du Quebec
- RCMP

On Saturday, February 23, 2013, Rabih Alkhalil, 25, of no fixed address, was arrested in Greece.

The TPS is working with authorities to extradite Rabih Alkhalil to Canada to face First-Degree Murder charges as well as charges from other jurisdictions.

On Saturday, February 16, 2013, Martino Caputo, 39, of Toronto, was arrested by the German authorities and held in Germany pending an extradition hearing.

On Thursday, April 11, 2013, he was returned to Canada on the following charges:

1) First-Degree Murder
2) Conspiracy to Commit Murder

He also faces drug-related charges held by the Niagara Regional Police Service.

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Thursday, April 18, 2013, room 101, at 10 a.m.

Rabih Alkhalil remains in Greece, pending an extradition hearing to Canada.

On Tuesday, February 24, 2015, Rabih Alkhalil was returned to Toronto after a Extradition Application was granted by the Government of Greece.

He is charged with:

1) First-Degree Murder
2) Conspiracy to Commit Murder
3) Niagara Regional Police Service drug-related charges including Trafficking and Importing cocaine
4) Vancouver Police Department First Degree Murder charge
5) Sûreté du Quebéc drug-related charges including Trafficking and Importing cocaine
6) RCMP Passport-related offences

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, 10 a.m., courtroom 101
